The Pelicans will trade 24th pick RJ Hampton to the Nuggets, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. New Orleans will receive a 2023 lottery-protected first-rounder in return, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN (Twitter link).
Denver was among a handful of teams that worked out Hampton during the pre-draft process. The Nuggets also own the 22nd pick, which they used to select forward Zeke Nnaji of Arizona.
Hampton spent last season with the New Zealand Breakers in Australia’s National Basketball League. He appeared in 15 games before leaving in early February and returning to the United States to prepare for the draft.
Now that’s a good deal for Denver
Can’t believe the Wolves didn’t take him.
didn’t need him, they just got rubio and have dlo so you don’t wanna have a rookie that low plus they just got the argentina dude and he wouldn’t be able to shift to the two cause of beasley and edwards
Kind of makes sense that he lands in Denver. They have made a habit of taking highly regarded HS prospects that didn’t live up to the hype for whatever reason in their first year out of HS. Porter and Bol were more injury related, but it’s the same concept.
Thought the nuggets would trade for a Derozen as the third option to make the finals..
why would they do that?
Derozen cant shoot the 3pt. He would mess up the spacing on the team.
Still think the Nuggets will make a trade of Harris and Barton for another guard/fwd. Maybe like Buddy Hield which has been talked about
Either way Demar would be a good third option. He can facilitate and mid range. Everyone else on the team can shoot so it’s not like it’s Derozen and another guy that cannot make threes at a respectable clip…
Hampton should be a Knick. Clever Rose was too clever. Maybe he thought Pels would never pick another PG, which was rational. But that’s why you can’t look at a draft board and say this or that team could have traded down and get the same guy. I was surprised Denver passed on him at #22, but nice recovery. Sent the Knicks to plan B.
Westbrick should be a knicks…
