NOVEMBER 24: The deal is official, per the NBA’s transactions log.
NOVEMBER 23: Second-year center Tacko Fall, a fan favorite in Boston, is returning to the Celtics on a second two-way contract, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
An undrafted free agent out of UCF, the 7’5″ big man spent his rookie season in 2019/20 on a two-way deal with the Celtics, appearing in seven NBA games for the club. He racked up 23 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks in just 33 minutes in those seven contests.
Fall was a rotation mainstay for the Maine Red Claws, the Celtics’ G League affiliate, averaging 12.9 PPG, 11.3 RPG, and 3.1 BPG in 29 games (23.3 MPG) for the club.
The Celtics’ issued a qualifying offer to Fall last week, making him a restricted free agent. Now it appears he’ll be back with the team for the 2020/21 season, filling one of the two-way slots. Tremont Waters, the club’s other two-way player last season, also received a QO from the club, but it’s not clear yet whether or not he’ll return.
I’m curious if Tako will ever have what it takes to stick in the league. The guy is very likable and can play junk minutes. He seems to have some athleticism and touch around the rim.
I think he could be another Boban, his ceiling is probably a bit higher than Boban because he is more mobile.
Fall is better than 30% nba big man now
I know the majority of people who know of Tacko only really know him as a novelty and not necessarily s a legitimate NBA player. But I really think that with some development he can turn into a legitimate NBA player and not just a ‘sideshow’ so to speak. When he has played (granted in junk time) he’s been really very effective. And he posted very solid numbers in the G-League. I realize he may still be a it raw but I think there’s going to be more to him than just junk minutes and G-League games.
I’ve seen him play live in Portland quite a few times. He is more a player than a “sideshow”, but he obviously still has things to work on.
Agreed. I really like the kid and hope he really does get the chance to develop and grow into a rotation player with the Celtics. Maybe not quite this year, but maybe in 2022.
Danny needs to be real with this young man and tell him that he is only apart of the organization because of his name(not his game).
I think you’re wrong. Spots are too valuable to just give away. This is the NBA not your 2k team hon…
Have to disagree, although great fan fav, he’s not quick enough to be in the nba. He never even dominated in the red claw games. The game where Lowry passed right over him in the playoffs to win the game also was disappointing
