8:29pm: The signing is official, according to a team press release.
11:54am: It’ll be a minimum-salary contract for Giles in Portland, reports Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter link).
10:53am: Harry Giles will sign a one-year contract with the Trail Blazers, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Giles, 22, was originally drafted by Portland in 2017, but was sent to the Kings in a draft night trade. He spent two seasons in Sacramento, but his progress was limited by knee injuries that have plagued him since high school. He was a free agent because Sacramento elected not to pick up his third-season option.
Giles appeared in 46 games last season, starting 17, and averaged 6.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in about 12 minutes per night. New Kings general manager Monte McNair had been hoping to keep Giles, and several teams were interested in signing him because of his potential.
Good offseason for Portland. Here’s to good health!
I like what Portland is doing, finally addressing they’re depth. This has been a good offseason and an intelligent offseason for them. Wing depth and front court depth were needed.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
Hope he stays healthy and he shows his potential he showed in college
What potential in college? He showed absolutely nothing in college. He showed potential in High School before the knee injuries.
That’s going to be a great fit for him
Given he missed his entire rookie year will he get the minimum salary at 2 years of experience or 3??
It’ll be three, since he was on the 15-man roster all year long (thanks for reminding me, I’d forgotten about this and would’ve put him down for the two-year min).
With Collins missing the start of the season, Giles might make sense as a starter, so Nurkic gets used to what should be his role off the bench behind Collins once he comes back.
Collins has yet to prove anything. Hes not a starting caliber big on any champ contending team! Nerk is considered top 5 center in the league. And yes Giles can atleast dribble and catch the ball unlike Collins. So he could be an improvement, on his 1 yr min deal at the 5. When Harry could stay healthy and play he looked showed potential. Very similar to collins.
