NOVEMBER 24: The Warriors have signed Bazemore to his one-year contract, according to the NBA’s official transactions log.
NOVEMBER 22: The Warriors and free agent forward Kent Bazemore have agreed to a one-year deal, agent Austin Walton tells Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Bazemore’s new contract will be worth the veteran’s minimum, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic (Twitter link), so it won’t cut into Golden State’s mid-level exception or potential disabled player exception. Bazemore will earn $2.32MM, while Golden State will take a $1.62MM cap hit.
It’s a reunion for the two sides, as Bazemore started his career in Golden State as an undrafted free agent back in 2012. This time around, the 31-year-old should get an opportunity to play regular minutes on the wing, especially with Klay Thompson expected to miss the entire season with an Achilles tear.
Bazemore, who began last season with the Trail Blazers, had a slow start to the year, but played well after being traded to the Kings in January. In 25 games down the stretch for Sacramento, the three-and-D swingman averaged 10.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 1.2 SPG with a shooting line of .418/.384/.733.
Warriors refuse to lose and want to compete with anyone
They will compete with anyone. Ask Steph, Draymond, Oubre, Wiseman, and even Klay
Don’t forget Eric Paschall who was first team on the NBA all rookie team. I am optimistic that he can contribute more on the second team – especially after another year in the off-season program.
40 wins is the ceiling for the Warriors next season.
Another bench piece for scoring off the bench. Its better than the G team bench that rode out the season last year.
Absolutely !!
Warriors are building depth once again. This team is 8 deep. Maybe a Whiteside signing as well to complete their offseason?
Hard NO on Weakside. Don’t need anyone teaching our new guy bad habits. Chasing stats stuff like that.
That’s a good point. So Gasol is the person you would want?
Any decent hard-working big that will come at a minimum salary for a year. Could be Gasol a perfect veteran and stand-up guy would be a great mentor. Not sure if he’ll come to the Warriors because he has several options. But it would be nice to have Gasol because Looney needs to prove he’s healthy, Marquese Chriss was good last year but can he keep it up, and then the new guy is a rookie got to be careful how you handle him or throw him into the fire right away and hope he survives. Gasol would be a great 15-minute guy. And mentor.
Fingers crossed he will come to San Francisco. I can’t think of anyone else, can you, that would be perfect for that role on the team, Mentor for the big guy? Baynes, or is he gone already? And there’s no way Baynes takes the minimum?
Maybe Draymond can teach Whiteside good habits.
That is always possible but I think it works more with a young guy or a guy with an ear. Hassan Whiteside seems pre-madonna ish. “You don’t tell me what to do.. I averaged 15 rebounds a game.” That kind of thing.
8 deep with Curry, Wiggins, Green, Oubre, Wiseman, Wanamaker, Bazemore, and Paschall. Sounds like 35-40 wins at most to me.
That way we’ll keep the pic and it turns into a second to OKC !! I’m a little more optimistic.. hoping for a 7 or 8 seed. 45-48 wins.
He is going to do well in the bay
Another solid move
