The Warriors have officially signed No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman to his first NBA contract, the team announced today in a press release.
While that No. 2 pick was the subject of trade rumors for months, the Warriors ultimately hung onto it and selected the top center in this year’s draft class. He’ll receive a $8.73MM salary in his rookie season and will have a four-year contract worth nearly $40MM in total, assuming he receives the maximum allowable 120% of the rookie scale.
Scouts and college basketball fans only got a brief look at Wiseman during his three-game career at Memphis. After being embroiled in an eligibility battle with the NCAA, the 7’1″ big man left school in December to focus on preparing for the NBA. He was dominant in his brief time with the Tigers, averaging 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.
The Warriors also confirmed in today’s announcement that they’ve signed second-round pick Nico Mannion to a two-way deal, as was expected.
Glad the season is coming up soon. Really want to see how Wiseman plays. And how Warriors are going to use him. IMO they should get another C. So they don’t rush him. Or expect too much from him. If he concentrates more on D than offense at first. I think he should be ok and can help more. The offense takes knowing the league more. I think he will be a 2way player. Looking forward to it
Think he will be a good pick . Reminds me some of Camby but we will see. The warriors have two other bigs in the rotation to not pressure him in Kevon Looney, M. C.
Looney and Chriss are going to take the pressure off Wiseman?
Looney can never be counted on to stay healthy for more than a game or two at a time, and Chriss only looked good last season because he was playing on a 15-win team. Neither of them will take a single ounce of pressure off the #2 overall pick who will struggle mightily his rookie year.
Dude is going to be a beast
Probably immediately too
You think hes going to go from dominating HS players to the NBA in 2 yrs will no real challenge in-between? I have serious doubts, and to me, it doesnt seem he has the drive inside him –
Hasan Whiteside II – Wiseman should be a treat for fantasy purposes tho
He went to college at least
Three whole games for a total of 69 minutes.
Expecting him to play at a high level this season is ridiculous.
Wiseman is shooting 3000 times from the three each day from March to Present
Warriors are not winning anything if 3 doesn’t fall.
What about least 3 pt shots made contest…they would win that?
3s just add to his game. He will be asked to rebound and do screens. I highly doubt he will be shooting from the line. He will be shooting from 10 feet or less.
Yeah well we will see who is wrong on that one…he’s in oakland hes shooting 3s…its the culture. Otherwise hes riding the pine like Pinocchios girlfriend…if you know what I mean
If this is the team, Warriors are likely to be 6-8 seed
But if they trade players and Wolves pick AND sign a good waive players like Aldridge, they can defeat anybody.
Why’d they give him a rookie deal?
