1:33pm: The Warriors have officially confirmed in a press release that they’ve waived Bowman. If he clears waivers, he’ll be free to sign with any NBA team.
1:07pm: The Warriors will waive Ky Bowman, who saw significant playing time as Golden State dealt with injuries last season, tweets Shams Charania of The Athletic. Sources tell Charania that other teams have interest in signing the 23-year-old point guard.
Bowman inked a two-way deal with the Warriors last summer after going undrafted out of Boston College. That was converted in February to a standard contract, which included non-guaranteed minimum salaries for the next two seasons.
Bowman appeared in 45 games as a rookie, starting 12 of them. He averaged 7.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists in about 22 minutes per night.
The move comes after the Warriors drafted point guard Nico Mannion in the second round of Wednesday’s draft.
Let me guess…this is another move that will ensure the Warriors will win the next 5 championships…
Lol wait for it another masterstoke for meyers
Bowman is a better player than Quinn Cook.
3-year minimum salary value
I bet rockets take hin
To do what, be their water boy?
So oft-injured Steph Curry will be backed up by either Mychal Mulder or a mid-second round pick (Nico Mannion)? Yikes.
LOL free agency hasn’t even started yet and you’re already dissing Warriors roster !! Lots of work to do still.
But to answer your question the backup point guard is really Draymond Green.., and Andrew Wiggins initiates the offense.. and really they’re all fantastic passers. Warriors like to move the ball. Usually find curry in the corner for a three. Hes not so much the point guard so to speak.
Nico Mannion is such a huge steal by the GSW.
He’s a great passer and can run an offence, he’s got a great basketball IQ and he is alright shooting and defensively.
His biggest knock was that he isn’t elite at anything in particular and that him and Josh Green didn’t have a huge amount of success together in Arizona.
However I believe Mannion with Curry as a mentor and with the GSW coaches will add a very good shot to his game. His handles and playmaking will improve and he will only get better.
Great move for GSW
