NOV. 28: The Timberwolves have made the deal official, per a press release on Saturday.
NOV. 22: After striking a deal with Malik Beasley on Friday, the Timberwolves are now finalizing an agreement with their other key restricted free agent, Juan Hernangomez.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link), Hernangomez will sign a three-year, $21MM contract to remain in Minnesota. The deal will include a third-year team option, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (Twitter link).
The 15th overall pick in the 2016 draft, Hernangomez spent the first three-and-a-half years of his career in Denver. Although he was a solid part of the Nuggets’ rotation in 2018/19, the 25-year-old saw his minutes cut back in ’19/20 after the team added Jerami Grant. With not enough minutes to go around for Hernangomez and Beasley, they were sent to the Timberwolves at the deadline.
With an increased role, Hernangomez elevated his game after being traded from Denver to Minnesota, averaging 12.9 PPG with a .420 3PT% in 14 contests as the Timberwolves’ starting power forward. That strong finish helped him earn a nice multiyear commitment from the Wolves in free agency.
It’s been an eventful week so far in Minnesota, where the Timberwolves drafted Anthony Edwards with the No. 1 overall pick on Wednesday, agreed to reacquire Ricky Rubio in a trade with the Thunder, and now have secured commitments from their top two free agents.
While most of the top players on the free agent market are now off the board, the Wolves do still have their exceptions available and could make an additional move or two.

Wolves look good on paper.

Layman over Beasley?
Beasley is a shooting guard, I doubt they start Edwards on bench being 1st overall pick
I bet they start Edwards at 3. He’s bigger than any other option. Layman will probably play the 4 again this year.
PG: DLo, Rubio
SG: Beasley, Okogie
SF: Edwards, Culver
PF: Hernangomez, Layman

Really talented rotation, just small.
And now Ed Davis provides depth at Center. I like this roster. Lots of Options depending on matchups.

Not a playoff team in the West.
In the East they would be in.
Could be with the play in tournament. Shouldn’t be too far behind Suns, Pelicans if they can defend better. Maybe Warriors will drop out of playoffs.
I think it would be just as hard to get into the East now the Hawks are loaded.
Wolves better than warriors warriors have better coaching
Edwards and layman coming off the bench edwards not ready and everyone is going to say wiggins all over again watch its going to be a breakout year for okogie and culver
hernangomez should be a rotation piece.. he will be overextended getting 20+ mpg
now hopefully we go get a forward via trade. juancho would be a really solid backup.
I’m pretty convinced that we are gonna have to wait for the deadline or next offseason for a good trade. We are set up pretty well for one in the future.

You do not know basketball we are better than Phoenix, dallas and memphis ,they have better coaching. Lil saunders is not n.b.a. caliber coach yet no elite coach wants this position with the wolves but we are a better team they the wolves players just have to go out and prove it.I would take townes over booker, doncic, morant,we are even better than denver there coaches are better than our coaches. We make the playoffs this year Townes is tired of losing,in 2 seasons he is gone if the wolves are not close.
Rubio is in the prime of his career. He should probably start alongside D-LO. I could see Rubio having a career year with this roster. If he comes off the bench and gets 30mpg, he will be 6th MOY
Really hope they do this. Don’t think they would have gone for this if it wasn’t in their minds.
Could still be a decent F/c fall into their laps yet…As tams settle their payrolls and look to bail on a contract !!!
Hello Ed Davis
JHG is a good talent. He plays the 3 and can probably start for TWolves. Good signing
I think he would start at the 4 right now. Maybe onto the bench if they trade for Gordon or another, bigger 2-way forward.
