The Bulls have exercised the third-year team option on guard Coby White and fourth-year options on Wendell Carter Jr. and Chandler Hutchison for the 2021/22 season, Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic tweets.
Chicago’s decisions on White and Carter, lottery picks and members of the starting five, were mere formalities. The Bulls’ decision on Hutchison wasn’t a slam dunk, though he’s projected to be a rotation player this season.
White, the seventh pick in last year’s draft, will receive $5,837,760 during the 2021/22 season. White averaged 13.2 PPG and 2.7 APG in 25.8 MPG as a rookie.
Carter, who was taken at the same spot in the 2018 draft, will receive a guaranteed $6,920,027 in 2021/22 while Hutchison will make $4,019,459.
Carter was limited to 43 games last season due to a thumb injury. He averaged 11.3 PPG and 9.4 RPG in 29.2 MPG.
Hutchison underwent shoulder surgery in March after play was halted. Hutchison, who was the No. 22 pick in 2018, had both of his two professional seasons cut short by health issues. In total, he has appeared in just 72 games (19.8 MPG), averaging 6.2 PPG and 4.1 RPG on .458/.295/.595 shooting since arriving in Chicago.
If Hutchison can stay healthy I think he will be a quality contributor off the bench, he has the athleticism to be effective in billy Donovan’s system, I’ve been sold on Coby White, very confused on whether carter is really good or not really good
I got Bulls for playoff this year. Their defence is good. I think if they can become average on offence they should make it. Donovan should fix it. Hawks and Wizards will still be awful on defence. I think they underperform like great offence poor defence teams can, like Minnesota.
We have no idea if the Bulls defense is going to be good or not this year. Donovan is bringing in a brand new defensive system, and thank god a brand new offensive system.
It is pretty much impossible for there not to be, but as long as there is more ball movement, more screens off and on the ball, and just more movement on offense altogether the Bulls should see some significant gains. Also, Donovan should definitely run the offense more through guys not named LaVine, and solely by spreading the ball around and giving their opponents different looks, I think the Bulls will be more successful offensively, and just as a whole in general.
The health of Otto Porter Jr., Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr., and even role players like Denzel Valentine and Chandler Hutchison will be vital towards making any kind of run. However, I think the Bulls are finally mostly healthy, but most importantly, I think they’re all genuinely rejuvenated and excited about playing again!!
Very succinct, accurate analysis.
