The Lakers waived guard Zavier Simpson, guard Kevon Harris, and forward Tres Tinkle on Sunday, according to the NBA’s official transactions log.
Simpson, Harris, and Tinkle were all rookie free agents who went undrafted last month, then agreed to Exhibit 10 contracts with the Lakers. It looked as if the plan was for them to participate in training camp and then perhaps join Los Angeles’ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. However, the team reportedly opted not to bring them to camp as a coronavirus precaution.
The Lakers are also among the teams expected to bypass the proposed G League bubble, as our JD Shaw has reported. As such, Harris, Simpson, and Tinkle may not get an opportunity to play for South Bay this season. Still, it appears all three players officially signed their Exhibit 10 deals, just in case.
Following the series of transactions, the Lakers are once again carrying 16 players on their roster, including 14 on standard contracts and a pair on two-way deals. They seem likely to open the season with those 16 players under contract.
Surprised one of the spot that went to dudley didn’t go to these guys. Dudley and cook are trash….
I think “trash” is a bit harsh. They did contribute versus the Clippers last night. The Clippers really look like a mess. They had their starters out there and got blown out by a Lakers team without Lebron and Davis.
I’m tired of hearing about the leadership dudley brings. Dudes a slob and if lebron is the leader he is claiming to be wouldn’t he be enough? Sorry but Elmer Fudd isn’t motivating me to play better from his spot on bench.
Slob? Trash? How can a fan use words like these to describe other human beings, playing the sport they love? Total lack of respect…really disgraceful.
He(dudley)looks like he’s 100% out of shape.. he literally looks like a slob. 2.6 million to sit on a nba bench..
@tatsumaki. Always cool seeing someone’s ignorance playing out in living color. Are yin an NBA player? Maybe Dudz can help you and lead you not to write such stupid stuff. Man the people who live in our country are stupid.
Lol posterized
As usual, Tats is all class.
Most of the Lakers bench isn’t very good, except for Schroder. Kuzma and Harrell are both huge liabilities on the defensive end. The Lakers will have a very hard time defending centers and PF’s when AD is on the bench. Gasol is getting too old and won’t play much, even when he’s healthy.
Lakers bench > Rockets bench.
Lakers bench > Rockets starters
Lakers Fans < an old crusty dog turd that is still new enough to have a bit of a ripe smell
I don’t know anything about the 3 players who were waived. But if they were anything out of the ordinary they would have been drafted. In my opinion Dudley and Cook are well deserving of their spots at the end of the Lakers roster.
Problem with Tres TINKLE, is that he DRIBBLES all over the court.
HR: “Harris, Simpson, and Tinkle may not get an opportunity to play for South Bay this season. Still, it appears all three players officially signed their Exhibit 10 deals, just in case.”
So is this exhibit-10 contract good for anything if the employer does not enter a team? Is it worth $50k at least? I might assume so but I’m not getting that “just in case” wording.
There’s been nothing official yet on how the G League season will work (even if the one-month Atlanta bubble moves forward as planned, it’s not clear if that will be it for the season).
Also no confirmation yet on how the criteria for earning Exhibit 10 bonuses might be affected this year if staying on a G League team’s roster for 60 days isn’t possible for players.
So, depending on how each of those issues is resolved, it’s not impossible that the Lakers’ Exhibit 10 signees could still get their $50K bonuses.
I don’t think this is where the NBA should play the cheapskate card. The three can’t even get a camp invite in this covid era.
The key point is whether they can still sign in Europe. Like someone said, The optics are not good.
Poor Tres Tinkle and Chris Cringle and all the hardworking elves.
