The NBA’s Competition Committee has unanimously recommended increasing the number of players who dress for games from 13 to 15 for the 2020/21 season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Additionally, the committee has recommended officially and permanently adopting the coach’s challenge, Charania adds in a separate tweet. An official coach’s challenge has been a long time coming, as it was eyed for the 2019/20 season and then implemented on a one-year trial basis.
The rules regarding coach’s challenges will remain unchanged for the time being. Two suggestions discussion by the Competition Committee included giving teams a second challenge if the first is successful, or allowing teams to get back their timeout after a successful challenge, per Charana.
The NBA’s Board of Governors (all 30 team owners, their representatives, and commissioner Adam Silver) are scheduled to meet on Dec. 17 to approve the changes.
With the season scheduled to begin on Dec. 22, approval of these changes would go into effect less than a week after the governors meet.
perfect for lebum so he can rest for another bought title
idiot
Unbelievable the hate for this guy
No more unbelievable than the hate for Harden.
Just goes to show how people hate greatness, don’t they?
LeBron never forced a trade while under contract.
Neither has Harden. What’s your point?
Harden is not forcing a trade. How does saying you want to play for another team promote team unity? It causes problems.
What hate? Ohhh…It is your attitude towards players not named Harden. I get it.
He’s afraid to face JJ Barea again
Awe did the GOAT hurt you, be careful with those horns next time bud.
There are sound reasons to dislike Harden, But LJ-hate exposes fear and mental problems, witness the idiotic avatar name. He means Kawhi resting anyway.
Important issues are being hashed out by adults. This must infuriate the never-grown drSuess69. I expected complaint about challenges, but some people when stimulated, can just bleat “Lebum”.
One could say the same about your avatar name and your love for Lebron. Cleveland fan? I see Kevin Love is your avatar? What emotionally charged trauma possessed you to choose that?
Besides, saying Lebron was “traded” to the Lakers isn’t accurate. He clearly chose the Lakers. Not many teams have the luxury of buying a championship team. Yes, they bought one. Players tend to refuse to go certain other places. Does that seem fair to you? Therefore, it was bought.
In other words, expect a lot more “load management” for stars and to not recognize a large portion of players in the game you paid that full priced ticket for. I always thought getting paid a whole lot more than anyone else meant you could expect more work instead of less work.
That’s where you were wrong. The big money gets you extra privileges
This is America with corporate welfare and billionaires ruling society. Of course making more doesn’t mean working harder.
Fair point, my original comment does seem a bit naive in this society.
Getting paid more means you have greater skills. If you suck at building widgets, more money isn’t going to change that. You still suck.
No one is buying tickets this year newayZ
Part of the load management will come from the extra depth everyone will have. I think it’ll make the season more interesting.
Unless they’re able to distribute a working vaccine then we’re going to see it anyway from Covid or being around Covid people.
If I was a young player trying to get a contract I would create my own bubble environment. Why risk your development at such a crucial time in your career/life?
One thing goes unreported about Covid-19 is that it can cause Myocarditis, scarring of the heart. Even if you show no symptoms, the body works to fight the virus. And some people wind up with heart problems that are not easily detected. Some athletes can just drop dead from this virus years later.
The idea of coaches challenges and the current oddity of only allowing one, then never getting a timeout back, indicates the governors only want to make sure the refs stay alert. The rule allows a small punishment in the form of getting a call changed.
The purpose then, is not justice, but keeping the ref’s eyes pointed properly and mind on point.
I assume this because they keep it so limited. The NFL keeps spending more and more game time on getting calls right, presumably trying to perfect it, but for all the trouble, it isn’t working any better than the NBA style.
If you want perfection just simulate the games on a computer. Allowing for human error keeps the game interesting. That doesnt mean dont hold refs accountable…instead of challenges have referee scorecards made fully available to the public (I’m talking transparent) Anyone with higher than average error rate gets replaced the next season (like soccer…3 up 3 down or something?).then ok a blown call, bound to happen, but if happening all the time the fix is in
Well there is a union that would say no to a public scorecard and the owners would give in. I would like to see refs get fined though regarding certain rules being flaunted.
The rise of gambling in the NBA’s plans could lead to an expansion into ref grading. The league will be investing in live audience interactions from a profit standpoint, to make casino-type money. So broaden the system to let them challenge calls— for a fee!
Talk about charges. Who would block it? lol
A refereeing union? They cant have much power…if your only complaint with my idea is that the refs wouldn’t like it, well then maybe it’s not so bad idea.
The idea of fans gambling on referee call already exists it called prop bets. So nice joke…
