Hawks lottery pick Onyeka Okongwu will miss at least the first three regular-season games, according to a team press release.
The rookie big man out of USC is recovering from inflammation of the sesamoid bone in his left foot. He has participated in modified team practice with contact and is progressing toward unlimited team practice. He will be reviewed again on December 28.
The Hawks will open the season on Wednesday against the Bulls. They’ll also play the Grizzlies (Dec. 26), Pistons (Dec. 28) and Nets (Dec. 3o) before New Year’s Day.
Okongwu, who turned 20 this month, was a one-and-done player. In his season with the Trojans, he started 28 games and averaged 16.2 PPG, 8.6 RPG and 2.7 BPG in 30.6 MPG. He was the sixth overall pick.
The Hawks previously announced that guard and free agent acquisition Kris Dunn would miss the opener.
Hope that with all the COVID-19 worries,
that now the NBA does not have to start worrying
about
Foot in Mouth Disease….
Confucius say, “Beware of the big man with foot problems”
I thought Chuck Norris said that
Chuck Norris stole a lot of stuff from the Chinese. He probably stole that too.
Hawks to get Harden,
Trade Gallo, Okungwu, Reddish, Hueter and 2 first round picks for Harden and Tucker.
Hawks get basically 5 firsts plus Gallo with all that young talent. Wall can lead them on the court and keep them semi competitive. Cousins can help develop Okungwu, Gallo adds some spacing and takes pressure off Cousins to play big minutes with Wood also there too.
1. Wall
2. Gordon. Hueter
3. Reddish. House
4. Wood. Gallo
5. Cousins. Okungwu
Then eventually when they are ready to try win again use Walls huge expiring deal in free agency but in the mean time play the young guys. This teams is still probably going to push some teams maybe a possible 8th seed
Hawks will have
1. Young. Rondo
2. Harden. Bogi. Snell
3. Hunter. Dunn
4. Collins. Tucker. Hill
5. Capela
Young and Harden make one of the hardest backcourts in the NBA with two elite shooters, great ball handlers and passers. Then you have defensive minded depth with Rondo, Hunter, Snell, Hill, Tucker and two good big men in Collins and Capela. Not to mention Bogi as a potential 6th man of the year candidate.
This team goes from 12th seed in the east to competing with the likes of the Bucks, Heat, Celtics and Sixers in the top of the conference
Prett my sure you can’t trade Gallinari right away because traditionally they make you wait about 8 weeks before you trade a free agent from the most recent period.
I’m not sure the Hawks would give up all those guys but I Harden wouldn’t want to play with Young.
Yeah make the trade as soon as the 8 weeks is over.
Harden and Ice Trae would be a great duo and Harden would love living in Atlanta full time especially with his mate PJ Tucker coming, his former team mate Capela is already there and Rondo seems like a good locker room mate too. Trainings would be like all your mates plus a young version of yourself to train up and outside of work your in Atlanta.
I like that trade for the hawks. Would Harden want to remain in the ATL though??
atlantic city is right up the street right?
Perhaps. But how many superstars sign with the hawks??? They either draft or trade for guys. ATL should be a top destination and guys only want Miami or L.A…
Georgia should either eliminate its state income tax like Florida or build a massive tax credit industry to attract film studios. Then the Hawks could attract FAs.
GA is giving mass Tax breaks already to Film industries, like 35% or something. Athletes want to live here but don’t wanna play here, its always been that way for whatever reason….I personally wouldn’t mind seeing CA head back to CA lol, too many moving here
