DECEMBER 17: The Rockets have officially signed Mourning to a non-guaranteed deal, sources tell Iko (Twitter link).
DECEMBER 15: Forward Trey Mourning will sign with the Rockets in the coming days, according to Kelly Iko of the Athletic (Twitter link). Mourning is a former Georgetown Hoya like his father, Hall-of-Fame center Alonzo Mourning, a seven-time All Star who won a title with the Heat in 2006.
Trey Mourning went undrafted in 2019, but joined the Heat’s 2019 Summer League roster. Miami’s G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, subsequently selected the 6’9″ forward with the No. 2 pick in the 2019 G League draft.
During the 2019/20 season, Mourning appeared in 36 games for Sioux Falls, averaging 5.6 PPG and 2.9 RPG in 12.6 MPG. He averaged 3.2 PPG and 2.0 RPG in 62 games over a four-year tenure with Georgetown.
Mourning, who figures to sign an Exhibit 10 contract with Houston, could end up joining Houston’s G League club, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, in Edinburg, Texas. The Vipers would have to acquire his NBAGL rights from Sioux Falls.
Any word on Chris Clemons?
They think it looks like an achilles injury. Poor guy.
Big fan rooting for him at only 5’9 he’s already beaten the odds hopefully he comes back stronger than ever.
Unfortunately for Clemons his contract is non-guaranteed, so it seems likely the Rockets have no choice but to cut him since they’re right under the hard cap. And people will of course complain.
Apparently with a long-term injury like this one he will get paid.
That’s good for Clemons, but unfortunately not good for the team.
They’ll likely have to go with 13 healthy players to start the season.
Hate to see anyone get hurt, but especially feel for him after he worked so hard to make the Rockets and was expected for an increased role
With those numbers, how in the world is this kid getting any shot even at the G-League level!?!
I normally never assume a kid got a job just because their father is famous, but that HAS TO BE the case here..Especially even being the number TWO pick after averaging 3 points and 2 rebounds!?! And he was a senior!?!…Not to mention, the team that gave him a contract, and drafted him was his dad’s former team..
I’ve NEVER heard of a player with those low of numbers even make it anywhere NEAR the NBA!!!
Look, I’m sure he’s a good kid, and probably somewhat talented, but the sad part is that he is taking up someones spot that’s more talented and likely deserves it more..
lol its called rate stats….also he plays hard, not necessarily like his father, but he is smart, knows what he is doing, and is considered a really strong teammate. He also can surprisingly shoot it a bit
