Eric Paschall has moved to a reserve role after starting the first two games of the season and seems more comfortable coming off the bench, writes Drew Shiller of NBC Sports Bay Area. The Warriors‘ second-year power forward posted 15 points in 19 minutes Sunday in Chicago, then 10 points in 13 minutes Tuesday at Detroit.
“I liked the rotation better because the way we played tonight allowed Eric to get going offensively and be more aggressive with the ball,” coach Steve Kerr said after Sunday’s game. “Playing with the second unit — we can run some things through him. We need Eric with the ball in his hands, and with that first group, it’s tough to get the ball to him.”
Because the Warriors were short-handed last season, Paschall got plenty of opportunity to showcase his skills, averaging 14.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 60 games. He was an All-Rookie First Team selection after being taken with the 41st pick in the draft.
“I’m allowed to just play the game,” Paschall said in explaining why he likes being a reserve. “Having the ball in my hands and trying to make plays for everybody and myself. More aggressive, more opportunity with the second unit.”
There’s more on the Warriors:
- Stephen Curry‘s new teammates are starting to figure out how to get him the ball in the flow of the offense, observes Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic. Because an injury forced Curry to miss almost all of last season, most of Golden State’s roster is still learning how to play alongside him.
- James Wiseman‘s early numbers may not be what some fans expected, but he’s showing his value on offense by attacking the rim, notes Ethan Strauss of The Athletic. Strauss believes Wiseman’s inside presence and Curry’s outside shooting can be the foundation of Golden State’s offense for years to come.
- A proposed “NBA Vet Selection” rule for the G League could be a path toward getting Jeremy Lin to the Warriors, but that plan could be complicated if the league elects to play in a bubble setting, according to Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury News. The rule would allow NBA teams to fill one G League roster spot with a player who has at least five years of NBA service. However, the bubble atmosphere may cause teams to keep their NBA and G League players separate, which defeats the purpose of adding Lin. Golden State was close to a deal with Lin before opening day rosters had to be finalized, but couldn’t get authorization in time from the Beijing Ducks, his last team in China.
Warriors 2-2 without Draymond and the $9.7M mystery trade exemption player, they are going top 4 in the West for sure, lol
Still need another 7 Footer on the Roster. What if Wiseman gets Injured or into early Foul Trouble like last night? We were killed on the Boards when Wiseman wasn’t in the game. It was painful to watch our midgets trying to rebound the ball.
Go out and Sign one of the Free Agent Bigs still on the market: Dedmon, Zeller, Taj, Henson, Willie Reed or O’Quinn.
No.
I agree, they need to use that injured player exemption for Klay on the 7 footer, JaVale McGee.
Use the DPE on McGee and sign Korver, cut Poole because he’s not worth it.
Adding high IQ veterans like McGee, Korver and Lin is exactly what this team needs to make the next step. Everyone is 25 or under, the team is too young and watching them try and figure it out after an underprepared preseason without a high IQ veteran out there has been punishing at times.
(Shaqtin a fool appearances aside, McGee was so good last year, plus that was really just bullying exercise by O’Neal)
Korver is to old and can’t play defense. He is an easy pass.
mcgee is in cleveland now da least they could do is get dedmon on a minimum. solid 3 and D center whos has years of ups and downs but still he fits fits culture of da warriors style of play.
Dedmon doesn’t fit the culture. The Warriors got rid of him years ago. Why would they bring him back?
he was youn back then and he wus just developing yk wut i mean. sure they might not want a reunion tho but dedmon’s changed his game quite bit. he may not be their long term backup center but at least for now they could include him onto da team for an year on a minimum patton, diallo, and labrissiere r decent promising centers fro shot blocking and stuff
Sorry, but there’s no one out there that the Warriors can add to make them anything better than one of the #7-10 play-in teams.
yea there are they could just make trades via da trade deadline dude.
Lolz, I don’t think Javale McGee could be described as a “high IQ” anything
Gary, it’s little people, not midgets, little people, got that? (quoting Mickey of Seinfeld fame) but yes, the W’s could use another big, but who’s out there?
McGee would be a nice addition if the Cavs are willing to trade him.
KezarMike, I’d like a versatile big not a Dewayne dedmon type Center that’s one-dimensional and sucks. Javale McGee included. A nice big Power Forward type that can play the 4 and 5 and shoot a little. How about a little patience and we’ll find a guy no problem. Doesn’t have to be tonight.
one dimensional???? at least he could shoot threes and play some D.
Hoops Specialist@, are you talkin about DeWayne dedmon? The guy can’t even find a spot in the league right now. He’s at home eating potato chips. Not the guy I think the Warriors would Target right now. And by one-dimensional I guess I mean he can’t play the four.
at least hes an average center. da only reason why he cant find a spot is cuz hes a vet prob idk tbh. wdym they already got draymond, paschall, and smiley at da four. they’re overlal loaded at da position. all they need is a reliable backup SG like buddy hield or will barton and a center to replace looney and fill in da gap left by chriss’s injury. he could play as a backup on a minimum deal and then they can just release him by season’s end.
Yep I hear you you’re right. Good takes.
“Top 4 in the West for sure, lol.” That’s a good one. roflmfao
Warriors will use their exception— for someone as good as Oubre, their previous exception player.
That’s not saying much is it? Signing Oubre to replace Klay Thompson has been an unmitigated disaster. The Warriors need to cut their loses and hope that the 2021-22 season works out better for them. Otherwise they’ll have no choice but to blow up the team.
Remember these guys haven’t played at all together. Only four games since last April when they shut things down. I’ll give them a little more time and hopefully they defend while figuring it out. Then if Kerr can figure out an offense for this particular personnel we should be in business.
I should have indicated the sarcasm. Now I wonder about the 2 likes!
Gary, Oubre never seemed to be very GSW to me… I don’t get the urgency to get him. Maybe I’m oddly elitist about fit as a Cavs fan in the finals. But 1.4 assists per 36′ won’t pair well with Wiseman. TBH he’s a bit too handsome & has iffy personal reports… may not affiliate.
He was a 20-point guy and a wing and available incapable of big things so I think they went for it. They went based on F what is his immense potential. You’re not going to find another Klay Thompson he’s one in a gazillion. But you work with what you can get and after four games or two and two. Let’s see what they look like after 40 games. They can still make moves. As we saw with D’Angelo Russell who didn’t fit they’re not married to anyone. Max contract or not.
I can’t believe I clicked send before proofreading. So stupid.

I’ll venmo you $100 if you this confident. Deal? If they make top 4 after the 72 game schedule.
Far more likely the Warriors will finish in the bottom 4 than the top 4.
That would still put them above the Rockets
Paschall is a better player when he plays with a attitude. He has to go offensive to the basket. If he plays back he is not as good as a offensive player.
Warriors are 6-8 seed
Crazy Rockets are trying to trade Harden to upgrade significantly
Those Kings are fake king
Nuggets are soft brick
Pelicans are overrated
Fake Kings can defeat Suns
Warriors have sharp teeth but soft hands.
Crazy Rockets crazy like Fox
Fake Kings have real crowns
Soft Brick Still hurt if hit enough times
Pelicans Have one wing
Sun never shine on fake king.
Bless u curtis I love this
thank you for your service @curtisrowe
warriors will plant the seeds, rockets plans will blow up, a lost prince may have emerged in sac., nuggets soft brick is turning into liquid gold, pelicans are standing on water, the sun has risen in phoenix while the kingdom of sacramento resides in darkness. i thought we were all supposed to do this.
The trade plans will blow up, then the Rockets will take off!
The warriors need someone like Lin off the bench. Apart from Paschall, there’s no warriors backup who is really aggressive
You haven’t been watching their games. Toscano’s play is widely praised.
their shooters arent being thier own selves. literlally bazemore is out of da rotation and idk whos backing up oubre. lin is a good fit no matter if u play him at da 2 or 1. he could shoot and disrtibute da ball perfectly.
Warriors will eventually use their exception. I agree they do need another C. Wiseman is a 19 yr old rookie. Warriors probably wait it out on making a move. They have to get healthy. And let team grow some. Wiggins has to step up. And Obrue has to get consistent. This is a new team basically. You have to give it time to jell. Even Curry is working his way back in. This eventually is a playoff team to me. And they could still make a significant trade. I think you have to give this season at least 30 gms to see the real version. No preseason and quick start. It’s not a regular type yr.
I agree with the article so far Wiseman has been way below expectations.
Clearly anyone can see his potential, but like all the rookies so far this season has been very irregular.
I think GSW should focus more on him as the 2nd option to score, ahead of Wigs & KOJ.
Long way to go to see how good Wiseman is, specially after his bad start… but he will be a superstar in the NBA soon enough!
Warriors need a scorer to score like he’s always done. Not depend on a 19 yr old rookie. Warriors are a vet team but a new team. Wiseman for his part is doing just fine. They need him on defense more than offense now. Fact he’s scoring is telling of his huge talent. Wiggins , Obrue, Dre, Curry have to take the lead in scoring. That just makes them a better team. And easier for Wiseman to score. Only Bron has come in as a 19 yr old. And been a significant core part of a team. Warriors want to compete for West. They will only do that as a team.
Wiseman has been about as advertised which is what one would expect from a 19-year old who hasn’t played almost at all for a year. Flashes of excellent play at both ends, coachable, yet very inconsistent. Don’t be down on Wiseman!
Don’t be down??? Who’s down? Saying that, after calling him inconsistent. That’s s what anybody says, including ElDon, except extremists like Marty.
Marty has attached his own ego to him and keeps saying he’s Lebron and goes on and on, when he has one assist in four games.
13-6-0 on a 2-2 team is all. He still has a ways to go.
Trigato lacks awareness or reading abilty.
And the Athletic article is about how Wiseman draws attention from the defence with his PnR ability, not about the PnR ability itself.
And how about the ability to make people lose their heads!
