Grizzlies guard De’Anthony Melton is the latest player to miss game action due to the coronavirus pandemic. He won’t play against Atlanta on Saturday due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, the team’s PR department tweets. Melton played 25 minutes in Memphis’ season-opening loss to San Antonio on Wednesday.
We have more Western Conference news:
- Despite the emphasis on the 3-point shot, Rudy Gobert remains a big part of the Jazz’s offense, according to Sarah Todd of the Deseret News. Gobert made 8-of-10 field-goal attempts in the team’s season-opening victory over Portland while scoring 20 points. “When we move the ball that way it doesn’t really matter who gets the shot,” Gobert said. “I’m able to get my teammates open by just setting the screen or running the floor, or by catching the ball and then swinging to the open shooter. It’s fun.” Gobert signed a five-year, $205MM extension on Sunday.
- Warriors wings Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr. are off to very slow starts, Nick Friedell of ESPN notes. Wiggins, who was acquired by Golden State in February, and Oubre, who was added in the offseason, shot a combined 14-for-58 from the field and 2-for-21 from the 3-point line in the first two games this season. Coach Steve Kerr isn’t pushing the panic button. “Kelly’s going to be fine. Andrew will be fine,” Kerr said. “Those guys are proven players in this league. I’ve got to do a better job of putting them in positions to get comfortable, too.”
- Big man JaMychal Green left the Clippers and signed with the Nuggets on a two-year, $15MM contract. Nuggets coach Michael Malone saw that as an example of Denver’s reputation around the league, Mirjam Swanson of the Orange County Register writes. “The fact that he decided to join us, I think, was a sign of respect,” Malone said. “He wanted to be a part of the team he saw in the Western Conference semifinals when we played head to head.”
If he only gets 15pts per game and they don’t advance in the playoffs, it will matter. And you’ll see it all over Donovan’s face.
Wiggins is trash.
He’s not trash, he just isn’t a star and not worth 30 million a year.
Wiggins stats per game last season Wolves
22,5,4
Comparable to Paul George
Whoever is top 25 scorer is a star
You can’t ask Gobert to score 25 average
Melton used to play for the Rockets, so it’s no surprise.
Maybe things will start getting better tonight in Portland.
Can’t be any worse than what’s happening in Houston.
Wiggens is a top 100 skill player.
56 Mio for 4 years is a real contract. The wolves contract was a mistake but I understand this. A number one draft is a important asset and they don’t like lost him
You don’t do real contract, but market contract
Market contract is overpaid
If Kennard gets 4 year $64m, soft and injury prone
then Wiggins would get $100m, market
Wiggins have 95m contract remaining
Wow! 2 guys who can’t speak English having a conversation
Wiggins is better when Curry is not on the court. I noticed that he coast when Curry is on the court. He only picked up his game when Curry was resting. Kerr should do to Wiggins like he did with Iggy make them the second team captain. Wiggins will flourish against 2nd team players.
3 point attempts
It seems that coach needs to ask Wiseman to shoot more from the three and reduce shot attempts from Wiggins and Oubre
It’s a Small size sample
Problem is Wiseman is their big man. They want him down low
GSW needs Kyle Korver so badly its tragic. He’s a FA and easily gettable. Instead they give minutes to Jordan Poole, who is one of the worst players in the league.
Damion Lee on the other hand, should be starting over Oubre until he starts playing badly. He’s finally looking good out there, opposite to Poole.
This thread is a Sullivan sandwich cookie

Considering last yrs run and these TWO gms. Warriors offense is built more around shooters. Obrue and Wiggins are scorers. IMO it’s best to bring Obrue of the bench. Let Wiggins play the 2. He’s harder to guard there. Warriors are much better with Dre in lineup. But as off now Obrue and Wiggins are not mixing well with offense. Warriors offense is built around shooters. Harden probably fits best in this offense. I can see Warriors might get desperate and make a move. I wouldn’t give up Wiseman in any deal. With a third team it could work. Move Wiggins, Obrue, and picks.,But I would wait Rockets out. The price for Harden will go down. They might even do Harden and Gordon. Gordon a good shooter is also a good fit for Warrior offense. I would do Obrue straight up for Gordon
If Lacob turns Wiggins, Looney, Oubre and no first round picks into Harden and PJ Tucker, then everyone has to crown him the GOAT of the league. They will most likely win it all this year too with that one move alone.
Andrew Wiggins and a second round pick for Otto Porter and Lauri Markeneen ???
Anunoby gets $72 million with 8 points per game
9m each point
Then Wiggins would get $198m contract
Is Wiggins overpaid?
If Oubre and Wiggins actually did their jobs, instead of shooting like 5%, the Warriors probably win both those games. The big problem is that there’s just no excuse for either of them to shooting this badly, they aren’t hurt. Honestly if you watched both games, the Warriors weren’t even outplayed, Wiggins and Oubre (and Curry, but he’s barely played and still working out his hand) just missed wide open shots all game both games.
I think once Wiggins and Oubre pull that crud in front of Draymond, he will flip out on them and make them too scared to play badly in front of him. Or Kerr could just make Dirk Wiseman the entire focus of the offense and see if they can get him to avg 30 a game at 19. Either way, the Warriors are nowhere near as bad as those results, all things considered with barely any of the team even showing up to the preseason games. Being underprepared vs arguably the best two teams in the game made this happen. Talk about the Warriors in February and see where they’re at – it won’t be losing by 40.
James Wiseman has practiced 5 times total in a Warriors jersey. Everyone else has at least 30 practices this year, or more if you include offseason. He went in off 3 college games and nothing else and went at Giannis and locked him down and rained offense the entire time. He is a monster.
Sounds like Dray is actually the monster. :/
To no avail. Oubre, Wiggins & Bazemore are not that… winning. It is a bit much to expect that based on their previous stops.
