Entering his 11th NBA season, Blake Griffin is not just one of the NBA’s most recognizable names — he is also one of the league’s longest-tenured players. The Pistons forward opened up about his future both on and off the court in a recent interview with The New York Times’ Sopan Deb.
Griffin evolved from a human highlight reel as a younger player to a multi-faceted scoring weapon with a consistent three-point shot. However, despite his strong play, no team that Griffin has been part of has reached an NBA conference final. As a veteran on a young, rebuilding team, Griffin may not be in great position to change that, but he’s staying positive, as he tells Deb.
Check out some of the highlights below:
Griffin on the Pistons’ young group of rookies:
“I’ve also just really enjoyed it, especially this group of rookies that we have now. They’re great players, but great kids. They want to learn. They come. They ask you questions.”
Griffin on his goal of a deep playoff run:
“The individual awards and these things are fine, and I’m appreciative of them, but I just want to win. Not making it to a conference final, yeah, it does gnaw at me. Not to the point where I’m losing sleep over it. But that’s the main goal — I want to win.”
Griffin on the possibility of reaching free agency after the current season (he has a player option for 2021/22):
“It’s not a decision that I have to make in the immediate future. And I know, I’m sorry, I’m just kind of running around that question, but it’s just true. Things can change.”
According to espn standing
28th Pistons
28th Nuggets
30th Wizards
I expect Wizards to beat Pistons
Without Westbrook, Wizards were surprised to me last night
They blowout Wolves 30 + points at the 2nd half
Washington looked much better without their stat-stuffing star in the lineup. Triple doubles are all that matter when he is playing. Last season he only had 8 of them, he already has 4 with the Wizards. Chances are pretty good he will get more of his precious triple-dubs than the number of games his team wins in 2021. Great job Westbrick!
You were all about Westbrook last year.. when harden leaves, you gonna turn on him also?
If nothing else, we’ll have to listen to him complain about the “shocking” low return Houston gets for him.
Age has caught up with Blake. He is still a OK player but no all star anymore. Not a player you would want to build around. He would best be served if traded to a playoff team to be their 3rd option.
Yeah, he unfortunately is injury prone as well. It just hasn’t happened to win a championship with him…
Injuries hurt his potential. Should learn from
Mcdyess how he adapted his game later in his career.
Imo he never really had much game-
Hes got a nice drop step
He can catch a lob
And he can make an open Baseline J
I dont think he ever learned or adapted more- In a way relying on Cp3 to make him prolly stunted him some
He should def watch Antonio tho but it might be too late to teach this dog new tricks
At a respectable Salary Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Clippers, Portland make sense.
Makes way too much to be on a roster built to win. 22-23 he’ll decide if he wants the bag or the ring
This is his last bag.
He can still help a contender. But his contract makes it difficult. I think best thing now. Is to go home OKC help them build a winner. Nice to end your career at home.
I know he will get more but I wouldnt even cross the MLE for this guy-
One of the more over -rated players in the modern era imo. Watching him hoist up 3s nowadays has me grabbing the remote looking for a different game to watch….Is there a worse watch nowadays that DEE-Troit Basketball?
If he didnt have CP3 in his prime we wouldnt even be talking about this guy today
“Not to the point where I’m losing sleep over it.” Lol imagine MJ, Kobe saying that. I’ll wait…
I mean, in fairness, at this point in their careers, MJ and Kobe were proven A1 tier champion players. Blake has had a snakebitten career and is riding out his mega-contract with the Pistons.
I’m sure if he were asked the same question 2010-2013, he would’ve given a different answer.
Ok yeah I am using hyperbole for effect, but the fact that he is playing down his competitive edge on the record is a red flag. That’s just my opinion you can take it or leave it.
Denver or Portland would look good with him at the stretch 4.
Bust
Griffin to knicks this summer…
