Star Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant, the 2019/20 Rookie of the Year, has had his availability status for Friday’s bout against the Timberwolves upgraded to “questionable,” Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets.
This is the first time Morant has been listed as questionable since incurring a Grade 2 left ankle sprain in a 116-111 victory against the Nets on December 28. A return tomorrow for the 6’3″ guard out of Murray State would be on the early side of the initial three-to-five-week recovery projection given at the time of the injury. Tyus Jones started in Morant’s stead, averaging 9.5 PPG and 6.75 APG.
The Grizzlies have weathered the storm without their lead playmaker relatively successfully thus far. The club is currently 4-4 across the eight games Morant has missed for Memphis and is the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference.
Morant looked to be on track for his first All-Star berth before the ankle sprain, averaging 26.3 PPG, 6.3 APG, 2.3 RPG, 0.7 SPG and 0.7 BPG during the first three games of his sophomore season.
That’s awesome. Once Jackson comes back these guys are not going to be fun for anyone to play.
It’s a bit generous to say he was on his way to the ASG, but he was at least going to be a candidate. There are A LOT of really good guards in the west. There’s a clear top 4 right now: Curry, Luka, CJ and Dame, who are all way ahead of Morant assuming he’d kept it up. Morant would be competing with like 4 or 5 other guards for two more guard slots, plus those guys and 4 or 5 forwards for the 2 WC slots. He had a shot. It was a cloudy shot.
2 players can be picked regardless of position, so in theory, the west could take 6 guards.
That’s true, also half the league will skip the ASG this year too. Curious to why they haven’t canceled it yet, these players dont have to be playing exhibition games in a covid-destroyed country.
WHERE IS JA???
Ja is injured still mate. A “wiseman” once told me that if you see a pickle on a mountain, you become the pickleman.
Curry = MVP
Who is a better player
Jaren Jackson or Michael Porter jr?
Jaren. He has a better all-around game. His defense is way ahead of MPJ. Recently but 7 foot as well. Both are great
That’s a little bit harsh curtis, there good boys
Basically MEM has done better without Morant 4-4 than with him 1-2.
Gotta love the three game sample size.
That is all the facts we have, right now with him they win 33% without 50% & that is a fact… don’t worry is just a guard & very often they impact very lil’ the game, big men do have a bigger impact in the W-L department!
Having said that he was playing very well for those 3 games more than worthy for an All-Star berth, so that is that!
Harden is free bud, take a break
I know, right?
