The Kings are encouraged by Marvin Bagley III‘s performance through the first quarter of the season, but mostly they’re happy he has been able to avoid injuries, writes James Ham of NBC Sports. Bagley has appeared in all 18 of Sacramento’s games so far after being limited to 13 last year by a variety of mishaps.
“Just being able to be there for my team — available, that’s something that I wanted to do and I did everything in the offseason to make sure I was ready for that,” Bagley said. “I’m feeling good.”
There has been a cloud hanging over Bagley’s career, not only due to injuries but because of the Kings’ decision to draft him ahead of Luka Doncic and Trae Young, who have already been to All-Star games. Sacramento hopes better health will lead Bagley on a similar course.
“We have to be patient,” coach Luke Walton said. “He hasn’t had the experience he needs. He’s still a very young player. He’s a very willing learner. He’s a very talented player and it just takes time.”
There’s more from Sacramento:
- Walton probably won’t have to worry about his job for a while, according to Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee. New general manager Monte McNair is still assembling his long-term roster, and Anderson thinks McNair will want to see what Walton can do with that group before making a decision on his coach. Anderson points out that the Kings have been through 10 head coaches in the past 15 years.
- Glenn Robinson III is one of several NBA players with a father who played in the league, notes Alex Kramers of NBA.com. The swingman, who’s in his first year with the Kings, said he has learned to rely on that connection. “Throughout the years and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve appreciated my dad more and more,” Robinson said. “Obviously, we both have the same career, and I’m able to call him and get advice, on and off the court. That’s something that I can never replace. I’m forever grateful for that.”
- Sacramento has assigned two players to the G League bubble, Anderson writes in a separate story. Because the Kings’ affiliate isn’t participating, they sent Jahmi’us Ramsey to play for the Clippers’ team (Agua Caliente) and Robert Woodard to the Spurs’ squad (Austin). Both are rookies who were selected in the second round of November’s draft.
By comparison
Other teams have far better GMs than Kings
Kings don’t treat other team’s free agents as Kings valuable assets
In other words Kings have strategy to steal good players from other teams
If you’re referring to the previous GM’s like Vlade Divac that’s true, but it’s far too early (and very unfair) to lump Monte McNair with those guys.
You could even say he’s done well really drafting Haliburton and not taking the bait on Bogdanovic
Glenn Robinsons dad held out for $20 million a season as a rookie, got it, and then had a disappointing, meek, short career.
Glen ” Big Dog” Robinson, almost forgot about that.
I wouldn’t say a guy who averages over 20 for his career & multiple All-Star appearances is a disappointing career, like at all, right?
He was over-hyped, overpaid & maybe a stiff in a uniform could have managed 20 a game in Milwaukee then. He had 2-3 seasons where he started to live up to his salary, but it didn’t last.
Soon, Vin Baker replaced him. Not even a decade later. Injuries were to blame for the short career.
Baker and Robinson did not play the same position.
They were close
A rookie earning $20 million a season in the mid 90s? You’re tripping. Yeah he held out for big contract but nothing like that. Probably check your facts before writing stuff.
Disappointing career? Couple all star nods and avg more than 20ppg over 10 seasons. That’s not disappointing in my opinion.
He held out. Rookies could do that then.
He held out. Rookies could do that then.
Yes I know he held out, I acknowledged that in my previous post (thus confirming my knowledge that rookies could do that). But you should have said he held out for an average of $6.8 million a year, not he “held out for $20 million a season”, that’s what I was getting at.
I don’t like the way you write either, the difference is I wrote my comment, where is yours at?
Glen Robinson was a historic flop, if you believe otherwise you didn’t see him play.
688 games is 6.8 million a year to you? Nice arithmetic.
Your rudeness to someone over this is 10 times more abhorrent than whatever line you think I crossed.
In my original comment I wrote “yeah he held out for a big contract but nothing like that”, that being the $20 million a season that you claimed.
Secondly I wrote an average of $6.8 million a year, which is what a $68 million contract is over 10 seasons. Maybe that’s overpaid, but being a flop is different to being overpaid.
Played 688 games. Asked for 10 years $100 million. Held out and received 10 years 68 million.
And I’m the Sensitive Fanboy here! Got it? Good!
Any chance the Kings and GSW make a big trade?
Kelly Oubre and Andrew Wiggins for Harrison Barnes and Buddy Heild ?
GSW I think would be better with Heild a sharpshooter beyond the arc and Barnes a former Warrior is a good two way player. Both are consistent and occasionally Heild will just go off.
Kings go younger and for fit. Wiggins a former number 1 pick is worth taking on to see if you can get the best of him. Oubre at minimum is a 15mil expiring deal but he should find his shot again and become more productive. As for the fit it means Haliburton can partner Fox in the backcourt and you have who Wiggins would be a good fit at the 3 with Fox Haliburton and Bagley moving forward.
No this Chance is not logical, because Barnes and Hield are trading for young players, picks or big one year contracts. Wiggins contract is to much and Oubre have a spacing problem.
Firstly, you need to work on your grammar. Secondly Wiggins deal is 29mil and Heild is getting 24mil there’s really not a hell of a lot difference. Plis it’s evened out by swapping Barnes 20mil for Oubres 15mil.
As for Oubres shooting, yes it’s been a bad start but it won’t continue he’s always been a decent shooter just isn’t working for him right now.
Work on your spelling. Plis?
plis?? first, lol u should check ur grammar. second, no one cares bout tiny grammar errors if they understand what someone is talking about.
I could hardly understand
“No this Chance” ??? “Barnes and Heild are trading” ???” and Oubre have a” ???
Hield and Barnes will be traded when Capspace is released in the offeseason. Wiggins contract doesn’t do that. Easier like that? Trading doesn’t make sense from King’s perspective. Wiggins is good at Golden Stade, but I always take a risk
kingsforever means the warriors.
Golden State would love to get Barnes back and have another outstanding shooter like Hield to give them another splash brother with Klay hurt.
Wrong. The Warriors don’t want Barnes back. Wiggins has preformed better than Barnes. Why would they want to get older with a player?
Wiggins has performed better? I mean Barnes won a chip with them and if you compare their numbers it’s pretty close.
Not to mention Barnes earns less and his salary decreases every year
So, you think the Warriors should acquire a player who is declining in talent. Why?
Declining in talent? I said Barnes has a better history, there numbers are very close and that his salary declines each year. Think he’s on 20mil now but it drops almost 2mil a year whereas Wiggins deals increases by a mil a year.
How is Barnes declining he’s in his peak
Why would Golden State want Barnes back?
exactly why would the warriors want two players who are liabilities on defense.
Both Wiggins and Hield have the same 3 pts FG at 40%
You seem to not understand basketball. Trading Wiggins for Heild is stupid. Klay Thompson is better than Bobby Heild. Andrew Wiggins has been great at SF for the Warriors. What position do you think he can play? Why would the Warriors want Heild, or Barnes. They don’t fulfill a need. Why do you keep pushing these stupid trades.
You really shouldn’t just type, you need to read what is being wrote.
It’s Barnes and Heild for Wiggins and Oubre not just Heild for Wiggins..
Secondly why even say Klay is better than Heild. Everyone knows that. Klay is a top 5 SG when fit.
As for not fulfilling a need they actually do. Heild brings you better shooting which GSW has lacked so far and Barnes gives you almost exactly what Wiggins does but is cheaper, more experienced, smarter and more versatile.
lol more versatile bruh all he does well is shoot the ball. also when is heild better than klay??? if barnes is a better defender then how come the kings have one of the worse defenses in the nbas rn
Barnes is actually a solid defender. I’d say he’s better than Wiggins on defence
@walladipo and wood…Why hasn’t Golden State made an effort to require Harrison Barnes? Do you really believe that Kevin Durant and Harrison Barnes are of equal talent?
Why would Golden State love to have Barnes back? You really believe that he is an upgrade over Kevin Durant?
Why would the Warriors trade for Barnes? Wiggins is much younger, and is better than Barnes. Your logic makes no sense.
Much better?? Debatable.
Wiggins: 18-5-2 shooting 47-41-68 with PER 104th best in the league
Barnes: 16.5-6-3.5 shooting 50-42-86 and with PER of 79th best in the league.
Barnes also takes 3 less shots per game than Wiggins, so in trading him. Barnes would take less shots but make about the same amount of points, meaning more opportunities for Heild or Curry and GSW scoring more points. Barnes assist numbers indicate he moves the ball well, and he also rebounds better. He also has years of experience under Steve Kerr and alongside Curry and Green so he would fit the team perfectly.
As for Heild and Oubre.
Oubre: 12-5.5-1 shooting 37-23-74
Heild: 16-4-3 shooting 40-40-88
Heild would be a huge upgrade for the Warriors. He’s a great 3 point shooter and has improved as a ball handler. He’s also a better passer than Oubre and could try emulate Klay Thompson on offence.
This deal would be a huge win for the GSW and as for the Kings would bank on Wiggins being a better fit than Heild who has in the past wanted out from the Kings and had disagreements with Walton. Oubre you either hood turns it around or otherwise he’s just a expiring contract you can flip at the deadline for a pick probably. Either way I think it’s a win-win deal
Why would the want to get rid of Wiggins? Why would they want to reacquire an old player in Barnes. The Warriors aren’t looking to get old, as you seem to think. Why do you believe they want has beens?
Barnes is older than Wiggins but he’s not old and isn’t a has been. Like I said before look at the numbers. Barnes is giving you more rebounds, more assists, shoots more efficiently and only averages 1.5 less points per game while taking 3 less shots per game.
GSW are looking to win now, Barnes and Heild and a step up from Oubre and Wiggins and makes you a better team.
Barnes performs on any team. Wiggins is best off with the warriors. Kinks loss this trade
You are to hung up on shooting 3s. Wiggins came to the Warriors as a better defender. Long term, he is a better fit.
Lol wiggins is not a good defender, no matter how many people that dont know anything try to claim it
u surely havent seen him play. if so, then barnes isnt a good defender either
they already got wanamaker as their backup playmaker and possibly jeremy lin if he actually return to the warriors. heild is a better passer u sure bout that. he averages like 1-2 apg.
You shouldnt have had to break this down
wdym? im just contradicting
That would be a great deal for GS, and I doubt Sacramento would do that…also, anyone that thinks Wiggins is better than Barnes has either never seen either of them play, or only forms their opinions based on what they say on espn
Barnes is a solid player. Okey in shooting, Okey in transition, okey in one-one defense. A good character and never injured. With a breakout start in this season.
Wiggins is struggle but his potential is higher than Barnes. Wiggins is a future all defend player, with good transition skills. With 36% + three point shooting is Wiggins the better option than Barnes.
But Wiggins is a high risk for another teams. I think Golden Stade is, the best team for him. No Green and Coach Walton is a problem for the Wiggins-Kings idee
