Rockets guard Victor Oladipo feels like franchises he’s played for have been too quick to give up on him, as he told Chris Sims of the Indianapolis Star. Oladipo was acquired from the Pacers in the four-team blockbuster trade that sent James Harden to Brooklyn. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent after the season. “It’s unfortunate going through my career, it just feels like people kind of keep quitting on me, but it’s a part of life and I embrace it,” Oladipo said. “I’m just trying to make the most of every day.” He’s averaging 22.4 PPG, 4.8 RPG and 4.8 APG in his first five games with Houston.
We have more on the Rockets:
- Big man Christian Wood is one of the 60 players invited by USA Basketball to compete for one of the 12 spots on the Olympic team, Mark Berman of KRIV tweets. He’ll fight an uphill battle to make Team USA but it’s another accomplishment for a player who bounced around the league before his breakout season in Detroit a year ago.
- Houston is assigning Kevin Porter Jr. Brodric Thomas, and KJ Martin to the G League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle tweets. Porter is the most notable name among the trio headed to Orlando for G League “bubble” practices and games in Orlando. The second-year swingman was acquired from the Cavs after wearing out his welcome in Cleveland.

Oladipo couldn’t shoot consistently in ORL & OKC. OKC didn’t have him very long before they traded him for George. Indiana was soured on his attitude, or his attitude about what his next contract offer was going to be.
So, I wouldn’t say OKC, or Indiana gave up on him. Orlando did!
OKC had a better opportunity to pursue & Indy was at an impasse with him, and happy to walk away with Levert, a Second, and cash for reasons other than his performance, and believing in him.
Tough job being an NBA Gm- Your either giving up on a player, forced into a trade beyond your will, or held in salary cap hell
Players these days have a lot more “feelings” than in days past, (maybe expand Pr depts?)
True. What Harden just pulled used to get a player extricated from every every team in the league. Times have changed a lot in 2 decades!
Rockets have declared that they will use $10.65 million trade exception
They are interested in paying double digit luxury tax
I don’t trust them
That all depends on how much it will cost them to re-sign both Oladipo and Tucker. Whatever they offer Oladipo, it will still be far less than the $44M that Harden will get next season in Brooklyn. In fact those two combined will probably be cheaper than Harden, so basically it’s a two for one deal.
And they wouldn’t have to use the entire TPE so it’s not like they will be getting anything close to a $137M tax bill a la Golden State.
Tillman Fertitta is going to “give up on” Oladipo this offseason by offering him a below-market contract and watching him walk.
… assuming Fertitta doesn’t “give up on” him sooner by trading him for whatever they can get for him.
I won’t be holding my breath for VO landing a long term deal this offseason, but if he does I’ll be happy for him.
If he continues to play well then I see no reason why the Rockets wouldn’t offer him a decent contract after the season. He has been a good fit so far with John Wall and the rest of the team. They saved enough from trading Harden to sign him for close to $30M/year, which seems quite fair.
Someone is just desperate to keep their username for another month or two
They’re playing as well as any Big 3 in the NBA right now.
So weird they still never explained what was in the locker…and now the guy is sent away to the G league…lowkey sus
Why is Houston punishing him for what he did in Cleveland? I don’t know what was in that locker, or what he did in Cleveland, but it must have been pretty bad if his punishment from the Cavs extends all the way to Houston!
They’re not punishing him. But he’s got to get some playing time. The rockets are doing okay at the moment. Porter can go back to them when he’s in shape and ready. His off the court troubles and his tantrum in Cleveland where he insulted the GM and threw food at people have left him with a lot to prove to us all
They’re sending Porter to the G-League so he can get playing time, not as a punishment. Same with KJ Martin, now that they finally have a healthy roster (except for Dante Exum) and there simply aren’t minutes available for Porter or Martin. Next year both of them should be in the rotation.
If he needs some conditioning its understandable, but he’s not a G-leaguer. He’s a lot more talented than that. True about no minutes. Wall, Oladipo, Gordon, Mclemore doesn’t leave a lot of room for him this season. Doubt he’ll call silas a bigot! I like his chances next season as a Gordon replacement.
G-league, like minor leagues in baseball when an uninjured, established league player gets sent down, it always leaves a ? about if that guy will ever be back… Porter had a good season last year, better than Garland arguably.
Why on earth wouldn’t KPJ call Silas a bigot?
You do realize JB & Koby in CLE are the same race than Silas, right?
I guess if you think Porter is a raging miscreant running around calling people bigots?
Not what I was referencing exactly.
Also, it wasn’t Bickerstaff, or Altman. That coach has been fired already for the “bigot” incident indirectly, and maybe, ultimately, because of Porter.
It doesn’t matter what he does with a basketball if he doesn’t learn to be a professional. Sending a message to your organization that we put talent over cohesiveness leads to disfunction. If he’s as good as you children suggest, then he’ll work his way into the rotation like a professional.
He looked better than Garland last season. Not sure how seeing his talent is childish? I don’t believe everything the media prints verbatim, and I also know sometimes they are spot on, but how would you know? Especially a locker room incident. Time & patience is the only thing that is 100% accurate in my opinion.
Porter hasn’t played. He needs reps. He’s worth a look. No need to rush with him. Wall n Oladipo have to establish themselves to see if this has a future. Personally I think they will move Oladipo and try and get younger. Herro makes a lot of sense. Heat were always interested in Oladipo. Rockets have a lot of new players. Its best to feel them out and just look to the future. They should be looking to move Gordon too.
Oladipo 4 picks before he walks.Miami seems to want his type of play and they have Herro & Robinson as bait if Houston will go with youth over the pjs
If you think the Rockets get Robinson for VO, you’re nuts. And you think Herro is even a possibility? Go home, you’re drunk.
If you think Riley says no to giving up both then say so. I have to guess you think this. No need to speculate on the poster instead.
Since Oladipo is only average so far and seems to be generating issues, the trade is a good deal for HOU, but not MIA who can just wait and sign him in the offseason.
Seems to be generating what issues? He’s been way more than average. Their Big 3 is one of the best in the NBA right now.
How long do you guys think it’ll be before Walladipo and Wood changes her name to The WOW Factor?
I thought for sure the Knicks were going to sign Wood this past off season. Everything changed when they took Toppin instead of Halliburton
I liked Wood too, and yeah Knicks were looking at him. I saw him as a good big . But his best position is C. Even though he could play along side Mitch at times. Like he is showing now he is best at C. And his D needs work. He’s got a big future. Ultimately I think Knicks were happy with Mitch in the middle. Also with Thibs here a rim protector was better. And so far it’s working top team D in league.
Oh please. I love the anger directed towards my team’s success!
And the whole “her” thing is so juvenile. Do you want me to be just as callow and make an equally childish remark? Sorry, but I won’t.
Oladipo needs to get over his plight in life, or at least stop whining about it. It’s a business on both ends. Orlando is the only team that he can even argue quit on him; but how was it too early? He and the team couldn’t agree on an early extension of his RSC and it had one year to run. OKC had a chance to get PG13. Pacers made overtures regarding an extension, and he shut them down.
If they can get a 1st for Oladipo, pull the trigger. Hes not an RFA, he can just walk. Plenty of teams out there that can make a trade work.
I’m a Hoosier so initially loved having Oladipo in Indy. Don’t have a favorite team but I love following the IU guys in the NBA. And even I soured in him after the way he conducted himself last year. Had one really good year and then became entitled. Don’t feel sorry for him one bit. He gave up on the Pacers, not the other way around.
All of this ridiculous speculation surrounding Oladipo makes me laugh. He loves playing in Houston plus they have won five straight games, and counting.
I hate to spoil things for y’all, but he’s not going anywhere, and neither am I.
