Hawks guard Trae Young says rumors of a dispute between him and John Collins earlier this month were exaggerated, writes Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. The incident reportedly involved a film session in which Collins criticized Young’s decision making and long-distance shots early in possessions. Young contends there was never a serious dispute with Collins.
“As for the John incident, me and him talked about it as soon as it got out the next day and we were both confused,” Young said. “It just got out and it was over a regular film session. So there’s no beef or anything in there to begin with. There hasn’t been any locker room issues on my side. Anything that people were saying about locker room issues, there hasn’t been one. It’s all about our team and how we’ve been trying to get better in film sessions.”
Young also addressed the controversy that has arisen about his technique for drawing fouls. Nets coach Steve Nash and Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau are among those who have complained about how he manages to get to the foul line so often.
“I’ve always been able to know how to get to the free-throw line,” Young said. “It’s little things like that people are pointing out this year, but it’s stuff I’ve been doing my whole life.”
There’s more from the Southeast Division:
- Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN takes a look at the Wizards‘ experiences through nearly two full weeks of contact tracing and postponed games. Coach Scott Brooks said he had little contact with his players, other than waving to them from inside his car as they arrived for their COVID-19 tests each day. “(The NBA is) learning things as we are going. And I am assuming they learned a lot from us,” Brooks said. “I see that more often now, somebody has (the virus) and they shut it down for a couple of games. Because I think it is better to miss two than to miss six.”
- The Wizards are big losers so far in the trade that brought Russell Westbrook from Houston in exchange for John Wall and a draft pick, contends Zach Lowe of ESPN. Westbrook’s stats are down across the board and he’s averaging 5.2 turnovers per game, which would be one of the worst marks ever if it lasts the entire season.
- Magic forward Jonathan Isaac provided an update on his recovery from a torn ACL, tweets Roy Parry of The Orlando Sentinel. Isaac told reporters he has started jumping while shooting, and the ACL doesn’t feel as stiff as it used to. He wants to strengthen his quad, hamstring and calf muscles before he resumes running. Isaac is expected to miss the entire season.
Wizards suck objectively, but don’t think it’s fair to call the John Wall trade a loss. They might very well be in the same spot they are now except with 2 disgruntled superstars, scrambling to find another deal. It seems Wall wanted out, and so holding could have had other negative consequences.
They mightve had Wall, their pick and picked Haliburton who is ballin right now
Everyone seemed to think that the Wizards would definitely be a playoff team with the addition of Westbrook, but obviously that’s not the case. Of course losing Thomas Bryant hurt them and they’ve been missing a lot of other players recently as well.
But the truth is they gave up on Wall, perhaps prematurely, and Russ is playing some of the worst basketball of his career right now.
Pfft whatever. I posted on the trade that the Wiz were likely shooting themselves in the foot with the Westbrook trade, and most people on here, who werent Walladipo, would’ve told you Westbrook is on the decline.
Of course, now Walladipo knows Westbrook is trash, just like the rest of us saw last season.
Honestly I thought it was worth a shot, a last gasp effort, but yeah I think it’s pretty clear Westbrook’s days of being a top 15 guy are probably in the rearview
But even if Wall has been better, not sure he would make much of a diff in WAS (also HOU is a lotto team too so maybe it’s actually an even swap!)
Wallaliar. Wall is having his worst year since he was a rookie. Every statistic is in decline except rebounding… it is easy to look up, just tap the name, but some posters prefer delusions.
Wall has peaked already, even before missing last season. Things are getting lean. He has old veteran stats and cannot hit 3s.
Yet for a guy who believes Washington “doesn’t need to rebuild” Wall’s decline is practically microscopic compared to Russ
Wall PER 16.7 TS% .527 in 312 Minutes Played
Russ PER 12.3 TS% .444 in 313 Minutes Played
It’s becoming clear this was a lose-lose trade. Athletic dudes taking a nosedive in their 30s who will almost singlehandedly tank whatever team they land on going fwd due to their contracts
Yeah IDK if it’s a true loss bc Wall isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire
But Westbrook looks like he’s roasted.
Right now Wall is barely the 3rd scoring option on his new team, so he doesn’t really need to light the world on fire with Wood, Oladipo, and Gordon around him to help carry the scoring load.
More importantly Wall and Oladipo give the Rockets an outstanding defensive backcourt, much better than their previous one.
Then maybe he should try to give some assists, right?
If he ain’t gonna score & has almost cut in half his dimes, ain’t very good, right?
Maybe he should start lighting the world on fire bc Houston is about to be lotto bound
Also he’s making $40 something millions dollars…
Throwing the 1st round pick is a loss for DC, but it is mostly a wash. Wall isn’t worth his deal anymore than Russ is worth his.
Houston is Winning a little, and DC is in player absence purgatory. We’ll see 2 seasons from now who lost the most in this deal.
Do we have any Hawks fans regret having Young instead of Luca?
To be fair, the trade was Doncic for Young and Reddish.
That makes it sound even worse
That trade was win win. It’s not like Young is some bum. He is still a franchise type player regardless of this incident.
Do we have any Mavs fans that wish they could trade seeds with the Hawks? It doesn’t really matter how good Doncic plays as long as their record is under .500. It’s like putting wonderful wrapping paper on a big box containing just a pair of tube socks. Sure the package looks good, but is still very disappointing.
Nah Luka is another level from Young
And Young is great don’t get me wrong. But Luka is probably a top 5 guy already. Just bc the Mavs have junk around him doesn’t change the fact he’s on another level individually
Cuban should be locked up for larceny right now
I mean what’s wrong with guys like Thibs?
I just can’t get it!
Ice Trae’s job is to go to the charity stripe as often as possible, that’s why he gets paid, that’s what you want all your players to do to be able to shoot as many FT’s as possible… If Thibs can’t see it, or doesn’t agree with it, he would do well changing jobs & moving on from the NBA, that’s for sure!
If Trae has to stop drawing fouls then Harden, and LBJ have to also. Plenty have complained about Harden, and James.
Welcome to superstardom Trae, you made it!
