After Hawks power forward John Collins reportedly voiced his frustration with the way the club has been running its offense through All-Star point guard Trae Young, Young addressed their issues with a measured response.
“I know me and John have set the bar high for ourselves, but we’re still 22 and 23 years old,” Young said of their early Hawks tenure, per Sarah K. Spencer of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Twitter link). “There’s a lot we can get better at. There’s going to be times where we are going to talk and there’s going to be times when teammates are going to talk about what we see.”
The revamped Hawks are currently 4-4, good for the No. 9 seed in the East.
There’s more out of the Southeast Division:
- Fred Katz of The Athletic details the Wizards‘ “load management” plan for new starting point guard Russell Westbrook. Washington GM Tommy Sheppard tells Katz that the club’s process for resting Westbrook will be fluid going forward. “We’ve adhered to a schedule thus far and a lot of it just kinda evolves on how he’s feeling, how he’s responding to the rigors of the season,” Sheppard said. “It’s way too early right now to say, ‘OK, well this is how it’s going to be the entire year.’”
- The Sioux Falls Sky Force, the G League affiliate of the Heat, will not be partaking in the 2020/21 G League “bubble” this season. Miami GM Andy Elisburg addressed the decision, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “For us, just for the quick turnaround, it just became a lot on everyone’s plate, and dealing with the fact that it’s an unusual season, managing the COVID,” Elisburg said. “There’s a lot of different things that were on the plate. That’s where we made the decision.”
- Hornets rookie point guard LaMelo Ball has had to grow up quickly on the hardwood for Charlotte, per Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. Ball’s size and on-court versatility has allowed the Hornets to experiment with intriguing lineups. “I definitely knew I had to rebound,” the 6’7″ Ball said of being played in an ultra-small lineup alongside Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham for the team’s last two contests.
I view Collins thing as contract and money issue
It’s not 100% about wins
JC this year needs to look for his money not wins.
& that is ATL’s fault, they gave him his money he would happy & calm, now as a pro-athlete his first priority is getting his money, wins will come or not… but now is his time to make his $$$.
ATL can’t complaint, they chose this situation to happen, don’t think it will end up well, probably time to start a rebuild if you ask me!
You think Atlanta should “Start a rebuild”? A rebuild from what?
Fairly speaking
ESPN and TNT need to televise more games for Edwards and Ball
Wiseman shows up in national TV twice a week
Edwards and Ball are supposed to show up only once a month?
i think the national televised games was scheduled before the draft.
Thats because Wiseman plays on the Warriors with Stepp. Edwards and Ball play for teams most of America doesn’t care about
Trae Young runs the offence similar to Curry and Harden. In the fact he is obviously the focal point and can score in many ways from all over the court.
In GSW Green gets a lot of touches playmaking and the focus on a lot of off ball screens, catch and shooting and mismatches, but end of the day Curry has a license to do whatever he pleases.
In Houston Harden would get a huge amount of touches and either beat his opponent and get a layup or fouled or he would hit step back threes. In this situation his team mates provided the spacing and some would try replicate his iso game.
Obviously GSWs system worked very well and Houston’s didn’t. You could say it’s because of the players or whatever. But Atlanta needs to lean away from copying Houston and follow GSW a little more. In which case Collins is right, they should look to pass more and have more off ball screens getting Trae free. But it coming from Collins after missing his max could also be just cause he wants more touches, better numbers and more money.
Think they are due for a coach upgrade
Curry plays a team pass first offense. Nothing like Har en or Tre. Tre is similar to Harden. But nobody holds the ball like Harden. I think what you are trying to say. Is they all have a green light to shoot. There I agree, and they should have it. All three are great shooters. Warriors offense is team oriented. Rockets before this yr was not. It’s Harden and whatever opens up for him. Tre does seem to go that way times. But he’s still learning. His ast ratio is very good. But I agree with Collins. And Tre should be looking for him. Makes life easier for him. The gm will always dictate the flow. Always better to have more than one guy who can close. Sharing the ball is best thing an offense can do. It means you trust all your players. Players will always look for best shot or hottest player. It’s the nature of the game.
I more or less meant Traes pathway is either going to lead him to a Harden style offence unless he gives up the ball a little and his team mates improve to which they should adapt a GSW play style.
Yeah I get you. Trey does get shooting locked in sometimes. That’s why I say I can see Collins point. With Okongwu there ( I like a lot). They could get a lot for Collins. If they don’t want to pay him. Okongwu is on that rookie contract for 4-5 yrs. So it could come into play. Collins at 23 is a solid PF for many teams.
That’s a really strong argument there.
Harden leads the NBA this season with 11.3 assists per game
Curry is 13th in the NBA with 6.8 assists per game
Come on Rocketman. You know he has baggage and bad contract. Plus Beal is younger and shares the ball. He gets his points off the offense. Harden get his cause he is the offense. All things considered I’m taking Beal for my team. Yeah I’m not a Harden guy. Like I said all things considered Beal is a better deal.
Curry is a system guy. Harden is the system lol. Actually I believe Warriors might be only team where Harden can go. They can control him I think.
Hawks just play careless basketball since nets games. Good time to have some words about winning again … Trade Danilo if possible and give Collins that contract.
I wasn’t a big Ball fan in draft. You see the brother’s next to each other. Lonzo looked taller. And they been saying LaMello had measured 6’8” in sneakers. They say he grew more than 3 inches since HS at draft. I thought he was too thin and weak. So I gave him 3-4 yrs to really show. Never thought he was worth a top 5 pick. I still believe that. (Wiseman, Edwards, Toppin, Halliburton, Okoro, Williams, Okongwu). But he has swagger. He don’t back down even though he might not be as strong. He’s impressed me so far. Still don’t think you should rush him. And to me he’s not really a PG. But his shot is coming along. His handle is much better than I thought. I look at him as more a wing. Still needs strength and weight. Considering Lonzo has filled out nicely. You gotta think he will too. He’s looking like a solid pick. I picked him to go to Char. Didn’t think he’d be this good this quick. Looks better than Lonzo did his first yr. LaMello is more in control. Like I said he’s not really fazed by the NBA talent. He’s got a future.
