Second-year Warriors power forward Alen Smailagic underwent surgery today to address a minor meniscus tear in his right knee, the club announced in a press release.
According to the Warriors, Smailagic will begin the rehab process immediately. He’ll be re-evaluated in about four weeks, so we won’t see him back on the court until at least February.
The 39th overall pick in the 2019 draft, Smailagic appeared in 14 games as a rookie for Golden State, averaging 4.2 PPG and 1.9 RPG in 9.9 MPG. He has also played in 66 G League contests since the start of the 2018/19 season, recording 10.8 PPG and 4.7 RPG on 50.3% shooting in 19.8 MPG for the Santa Cruz Warriors.
While Smailagic is unlikely to be a regular rotation player for the Warriors in ’20/21 even once he gets healthy, the club still appears to be committed to his development for now. The 20-year-old is on a minimum-salary contract that runs through 2022/23, though it’s not guaranteed beyond this season.
I love how Warriors announce this on same day as Dinwiddie to try and steal the attention. Such a bush league move.
Not sure why you see it that way. Kind of a coincidence I would think rather than an attempt to steal a headline.
Oh that’s cute you forgot the NBA is a business.
why are you such a warriors hater? it’s a coincidence, guaranteed
@toward If you can guarantee it, show me the proof. I’ll wait…
The NBA is an entertainment product and part of that is bringing eyes to your organization. To your website, to your advertising, to bring in revenue – to make money (ducats not buckets).
Just because you’ve never seen a molecule of oxygen doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Just because you don’t understand basic business principles doesn’t mean they don’t apply.
Not sure how saying your relatively unknown player who is having surgery to miss around a month steals any headlines from a top player on a contenders season ending knee surgery but sure, go on
@Gary – dont engage with trolls. They are just hurt Curry doesn’t play on their fave team. Pay this one no mind especially. He has no joy or love in his life.
It was announces a week ago he was going to have knee surgery before Dinwiddie was even hurt. So you think he should have rescheduled the surgery because another player was having it the same day. They are 2 different surgeries Dinwiddie is way more serious than Smiley. SMH
Sorry I’m just going off the date of OFFICIAL TEAM PRESS RELEASE, the info that is specifically distributed by the organization.
I lost my watch at the beach a couple years ago let me know if you find it while you have your head in the sand.
Marquese Chriss and now Alen Smailagic out for most of the season, means more PT for Kevon Looney. I’m doubtful Looney’s body will hold up with increased playing time, it hasn’t yet.
I’d be okay swapping Jordan Poole to the Knicks to get beefy Omari Spellman back.
Otherwise, there’s still a few Big Men available on the FA Market:
Veterans:
– John Henson
– Taj Gibson
– Dewayne Dedmon
– Willie Reed
– Kyle O’Quinn
– Ekpe Udoh
– Tyler Zeller
– Ian Mahinmi
– Hasheem Thabeet
Developmental younger prospects:
– Justin Patton, Creighton
– Deyonta Davis, Michigan St.
– Dakari Johnson, Kentucky
– Brandon McCoy, UNLV
– AJ Hammons, Purdue
– Amidah Brimah, UConn
– Sagaba Konate, West Virginia
He hardly ever played so it won’t make nearly as much of a difference as losing Chriss. They’re so lucky that Wiseman has played well beyond expectations or else they really would need to make a move to get a center.
@GangGreen23 – ignore the GSW-hating trolls that pollute this site – not only are their nba takes the most basic and smooth-brained imaginable, but they never add anything to convo because their lives are based on hating Steph Curry.
The two guys that are bringing GSW to the next level are JaVale McGee and Kyle Korver. JaVale is available under the Klay exemption, and Korver is a simple FA sign.
If they add both of those, they will destroy everyone and win another chip. GSW is missing high IQ vets, and those two are certainly that.
Lol u call me a troll then claim Kyle Korver will bring the golden warriors a championship. De loo ja null.
Also are u really strike four with a new name because thatd be next level sad lol
LOL strike four I’m dying. He disappeared after he kept guaranteeing Giannis to GSW all year long.
Dakari Johnson is playing in China. Sagaba Konate is playing in Greece. As far as I know, the rest of the guys you listed seem available. I believe Willie Reed left Buducnost, where he started the season.
The boss’s son can never be wrong….
