Kevin Knox‘s playing time has continued to diminish and his future with the Knicks organization is murkier than ever, Marc Berman of the New York Post notes. The 2018 lottery pick never left the bench for the first time this season on Sunday. New York might look to deal Knox or even send him to Orlando to get some floor time with the G League’s Westchester Knicks. Knox’s rookie contract is guaranteed through next season.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- The Nets signed Norvel Pelle and Iman Shumpert to non-guaranteed contracts to get up to the league minimum for roster spots but they may not last long, John Hollinger of The Athletic speculates. With luxury tax issues, the Nets might open up those spots again as soon as February 10, then make the necessary additions when 10-day contracts are allowed on February 23. They could continue similar roster maneuvers right up to the March trade deadline, Hollinger adds.
- Raptors 905 GM Chad Sanders is awaiting to hear the quarantine protocols regarding the shuttling of players between NBA teams and the G League bubble in Orlando, Blake Murphy of The Athletic tweets. Two-way player Jalen Harris is already there but any additional assignments will hinge on those protocols, Murphy adds.
- If the Celtics are truly going to contend for Eastern Conference supremacy this season, they’ll need more out of Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart, Mark Medina of USA Today opines. At least one of those guards has to develop into a more consistent threat to help out the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, Medina adds. Smart is currently sidelined by a calf strain.
Oladipo? If the C’s have the trade exception, young players & Kemba Walker? They should aggressively engage Houston before the TD.
Oladipo looks like he could help the C’s right now. With a little improvement left to go coming off that injury.
Houston’s fine, they aren’t selling. They’re the hottest team in the NBA right now with a 48-point quarter in each of their last two games.
I have no feelings either way with Houston keeping or selling Oladipo. Brilliant play if they can win & showcase Oladipo, then sell high for a good package.
Other than Oladipo getting injured again, can’t see Houston fouling this up no matter what they do.
When do we call the Kemba deal a bust? Gordon was a bust after year 1 too.
IDK if it was a bust (yet), but it’s definitely showing diminishing returns.
Maybe it made sense at the time bc they lost Irving for nothing, but I was never a fan of it – giving a 5-10 PG a max contract at 29 is a gamble I’d rather not take personally
Walker has been hurt, but if he doesn’t start producing at an all star level the rest of this year…it’s a bust.
Can’t win it without Walker. He’s got to get healthy. Celtics need make sure he is right for end and the playoffs. He, Jalen, Tatum are Celtics big3.
Knox looks lost on the court. Change of scenery my be in order to get him going.
I’ll take him in Philly, in exchange for the Knicks 2nd round pick that Philly currently holds.
Kevin Knox would give the Sixers some shooting off the bench. I like Scott and Korkmas, but both guys are out of here at the end of the season.
Let Sam Cassell and Doc Rivers work with him.
The Knicks have a lottery pick wasting away on the bench? That’s strange and not at all typical of that organization. /s
And they also have several young, talented players who are improving (Barrett, Robinson, Quickley) and another (Toppin) with potential. So what’s your point? They are constantly drafting in the lottery, so they have more chances to have misses.
Just more Knicks hating, which I get, but still. Knox just isn’t a good player, much like Frank and DSJ.
First of all, I don’t hate the Knicks. I just think Dolan singlehandedly grenades the franchise. So long as he’s cutting corners and putting his stamp on the team, they’ll underachieve. I also think Thibs was an awful choice for head coach for this team, but again that’s Dolan for ya.
Second, define “constantly” for me. Because they’ve had five lottery picks in six drafts. One a year is a lot compared to most teams, but is it really so much that a team couldn’t handle it?
It’s far more important that Knox (with a year and change left on his RSC) get minutes there, than DSJ (who’s just trying to shed the malinger label). Knox, unbelievably, has logged zero minutes in the G-league in his career. Two seasons, where (unlike this one, with the bubble) a guy could play there and here. Casualty of the Stooge era. Fizdale thought it was more important for him to have dinner with Bernard King.
Unfortunately, this year, with the bubble, guys pretty much have to be here or there.
Knox – career PER 8.5
DSJ – career PER 11.9
Frank N. – career PER 7.7
It’s actually amazing NYK is actually half-decent this year, given they have 3 lotto picks with a combined career PER of a run of the mill LeBron season
They’re in the lottery every year , though (been there the last seven years–two traded in the Melo deal). They have five lottery picks on the team with under four years experience. Eight if you stretch it out to six years and include Payton, Noel, and Randle (Austin Rivers; 8 years). Some will hit, some will miss.
Knicks have been in the lottery since 2015. And when you pick outside top 5. You really have to know what you are doing. Unlike you just spouting fake facts. Whenever you want to make a point. Even if it’s critical or hate. Just ask me I will gladly give you the real facts. And explain what they really mean. Knicks deserve criticism. At least sound intelligent when you do it. I can help with that.
2015 KP (#4), 2016 No Pick, 2017 Nttilikina (#8), 2018 Knox (#9), 2019 RJ (#3), 2020 Toppin (#8). That’s 4 picks in last 5 yrs.
Who exactly is a bust here. Frank is 22 and one of best young defenders in NBA. Yes I’m saying it. Knox is 20 and at worst he will be a rotation player. KP according to you geniuses is already a star. I think he’s solid. RJ at 20 is becoming a star. Even though HALF the geniuses here think he’s got no game. And all posted it before season. Out of Zion, Ja, RJ is best defender by far. But the geniuses here don’t understand this is a 2way sport. Toppin will be a star. Get back to me when you learn more.
So all this shows is how the bots here just follow some narrative they’ve been fed and they swallow. Instead of actually watching them a few times. And give an intelligent articulate take to show some truth. At least Sillyman is consistent. Half you here are more like the Rockets bandwagon. Where everything is at some fault. That isn’t Houston or left Houston. But all things Rockets are somehow on right path. You want to talk smack. Have the decency to articulate it. Otherwise you’re a fan boy who only comes here to rant. And really don’t care about ball. I got plenty of ball in me. So please tell me how this bust of a team is .500 and has the best D in league. How Thibs has done his job even though half you just ragged about his hire. You all understand that I see everything. Ball is my life cause it comes easy to me. It’s like breathing to me. So please give me your rants instead of facts, Or maybe try learning something.
The Knicks are playing great defense this season, allowing 8 PPG fewer than last year. And it seems very unlikely that KP will ever live up to the hype after 5 injury-riddled years.
Thibs is the reason. And drafting Toppin is reason Randle is playing. Our team offense is still bad. But we are one of youngest teams. A traditional PG goes a long way to fixing this. I just don’t see Thibs rushing to do anything. It’s coming dude. I’ve said it since end of last yr. This is a rebuilding yr. And some young guys will be moved. Just don’t want to give them away.
Ntilika is an offensive liability. Can’t play a PG minutes if he can’t shoot, pass, or score. RJ has been good, but still inconsistent. Need to see more of Toppin to evaluate how he fits into an NBA team.
If the Knicks get Cunningham or another franchise PG in this upcoming draft they will have a decent future.
Do we understand what PER actually means. Basketball is a 2way sport. It’s a team sport. And stars and rotation player and complimentary players are all expected to provide different functions. Their excellence and benefit to the TEAMS success is different. And different for every team. And different offenses. Now PER can be used as a tool to help evaluate. But it’s different for every offense and team. Chemistry is something that can’t really be measured. But it’s one of most important evaluations of a player per team. It’s why Bron can go to different teams and WIN. Folks think shooting is something new. It’s the amount of shooting that’s new. FG% is still one of best measures of a scorer. Team offense and scoring are two different things. Curry is having one of his best scoring yrs so far. Yet his team could be lottery bound. When his teams were right their offense was scoring. Not just player stats. Beal is having a career yr. Yet Wiz aren’t going to playoffs. The big Noise in Bklyn is lethal offensively. Yet will not come out of East if they can’t make stops. Are we getting this. You want to rant or you want to talk ball. I got plenty of game lols. Having strong opinions don’t mean you know it all. Only you want to know it all …. that hunger is what makes want it. Love this game.
Man, knocks play .500 bbal for a month and it turns out they have good players and a promising team lol.
Fact is they dont have any franchise players to build a contender, they didn’t draft anyone with star potential (e.g. Haliburton, sexton, herro, hunter), dont have any young stars (like tatum, brown, sabonis, booker, luka, etc) and FA dont want to play for donnie.
So all they can do is tank for picks and hope to draft a star… Which is exactly what they are doing since getting to the playoffs with Melo like 8 years ago.
Whos Donnie?
Oubre for Kevin Knox straight up. Helps GSW tax situation, Knicks get a look at Oubre.
Poirer & Ferguson & a 2nd for Knox – PHL could use some wing depth and Ferguson doesn’t play.
The Knicks main problem is drafting. The they took Ntilikina instead of Donovan Mitchell or Bam Adebayo and the took Knox instead of Shai Alexander. They Jury is still out on Toppin over Halliburton. Some teams draft well like Miami and San Antonio some don’t. Hopefully eventually the Knicks get lucky in the draft.
You stole my thunder. I would be willing to give up Ferguson and a future 1st for Knox.
Sixers need bench scoring depth. I also think the Sixers possess the coaching staff that can work with Knox.
Yea at this point – both are wasted roster spots (Ferg & Porier) along with Mike Scott. 11.5M to play with for matching – Wayne Ellington and Kevin Knox would be good pick-ups, and both DET and NYK will be out of the playoff picture 100% by the TD. And with Knox, you’ve got him at least 1 more year.
Other names that might pop up are Ersan and Muscala. Sixers aren’t really in the market for a real big move unless they include Danny Green’s 15M and several 1sts.
lol the sixers need a backup stretch 4 if they wanna have a consistent championship run scott isnt reliable hes shooting 25% from three and barely 30% from the field way. mbah a moute(for defense), young(floor spacing and playmaking), tollivier(old but still has some shooting touch in him), RHJ(defense), MKG(defense)
100.
Bjelica would be an ideal fit.
I would prefer Juan Hernangomez for the long haul.
shumpert and pelle are excellent defenders but shumperts way past his prime and has lost his athleticism. Pelle may be an athletic big who can block shots and clean the glass consistently, but he has limited mobility and can’t space the floor well. also, he has limited nba experience.
I’ll keep this short. Knox in a good system with a point guard to spoon feed him would be a real good player.
Signed life long knick fan.
Hallelujah! A Knicks fan that speaks the truth!
It’s very apparent that Knox can play. All the more reason why I would love him in Philly.
KnickerbockerAl knows his sh*t. I enjoy reading your comments sir
