Pistons point guard Delon Wright will be out of action with a Grade 2 strain to his right groin, tweets James Edwards III of The Athletic. His condition will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Wright, who suffered the injury in Friday’s game, is averaging 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists after being acquired from the Mavericks in a three-team deal in November. He took over as the starting point guard after an early-season injury to Killian Hayes.
“He said he didn’t remember exactly how he did it, that was the scary part,” head coach Dwane Casey told Omari Sankofa II of The Detroit Free Press. “He was just getting back in transition and felt it.”
The injury, which will stretch past the All-Star break, should give a starting opportunity to Dennis Smith Jr., who was recently acquired from the Knicks, Edwards adds (Twitter link). Two-way players Saben Lee and Frank Jackson are also candidates for increased roles.
Probably didn’t help playing after he already strained it.
Grade 2 isn’t as serious but if DSJ was my reserve option I might be more careful with Wright.
Well played on that dig! Subtle, but not to he missed :)
It’ll be interesting to see how DSJ is with more pressure on him because he’s been trainwreck terrible this far.
DSJ gets after it on Defense. He really does. His offense is very bad though. Tough being a guard & not score proficiently.
Josh jackson should start in his place
Delon Wright quietly having a solid season and really stepped up his production after the Derrick Rose trade. Pistons have a couple of pieces with Wright and Jeremiah Grant. The Stewart kid looks like he could be a rotation guy. Likewise with Bey. Could Delon be the answer at PG? Killian Hayes is a wasted draft pick.
I’m with you. I hate seeing Delon mentioned as a trade piece. I seriously hope he figures into the long term plans. I waited for years for Reggie to be this.
Just when I thought he could finally stay healthy…
Other than 3 consecutive plays in Orlando, DSJ was really bad. Here’s to hoping he can start relaxing and let more plays like those three happen. I think he’s physically talented and seems to be a good kid. His head is a mess right now. If he’s ever gonna get his head right, Casey is the guy to do it.
