Nets point guard Kyrie Irving will not play in Saturday’s contest against the Sixers in Philadelphia due to a right index finger sprain, the team announced in its injury report.
Irving played in the Nets’ 123-117 loss at home to the Raptors on Friday, notching 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists in 39 minutes. It was Irving’s first game scoring fewer than 20 points since January 25.
Ever since returning from an extended mercurial absence in early January, Irving has played well for the Nets. In total, Irving is averaging a career-high 27.5 PPG along with 5.7 APG and 4.8 RPG in 16 games.
Additionally, Brooklyn listed Kevin Durant as questionable for Saturday’s game despite a report he could miss multiple games and that he would not travel to the team to Philadelphia. Durant is undergoing health and safety protocols after a person he was around returned a positive COVID-19 test.
Was it his middle finger?
Buuurn
Harden will be the star of the show tonight
By default, he kind of has to be.
I was thinking maybe it was going to be Bruce Brown.
He has done it many times before, he’ll probably go for 40 or 50.
Does Kyrie just not play when Durant doesn’t? seems like those two are connected at the hip.
Nets have Hawks and Suns second round picks this summer
Idea
Dinwiddie for Bjelica and Whiteside
And Luxury two picks
No one is giving up assets for a broken Dinwiddie.
I actually like that Idea, if they can shop out Jordan instead of Dinwiddie, that would be a really kingsie trade for sac.
It would be nice if players were paid on a games played by them instead of a games played the team situation. Now I’m not saying players that are legitimately injured shouldn’t get paid, but they shouldn’t get full pay. If you aren’t doing the job for whatever reason, you really shouldn’t get full pay. Worker’s compensation does not give full pay to workers injured on the job, just partial pay if they jump through enough hoops.
I submit that NBA players should only receive 25% pay for a game if they don’t player for any reason other than “coach’s decision.” No one should be punished because the coach doesn’t put them in the game. But with the amount of money these guys make, it’s not asking too much to give a little bit of effort and work 82 days a year. Even adding in playoffs is just 100 days a year. Considering the average worker puts in 250 days or so a year, I don’t think it’s really all that much to expect.
Sorry in a mood today, but I just feel it needed to be said.
The Nets came into this contract with Kyrie Irving understanding his “drama” that surrounds him. If you give teams that much power on contracts paid based on games played, there will no doubt be foul play done by the team to ensure that practically no player ever reaches their full pay.
In other words, this is an awful idea. Stop comparing these sports guys to average workers, it just doesn’t work. Educate yourself.
Your first paragraph was fine. Why the need for the attacking second paragraph? I don’t mind being disagreed with, but show some respect.
PS – I have a Master’s degree and and am working on a PhD. I am fairly well educated.
Also, stop thinking these players are somehow better than average workers because they are not. They just happen to have more lucrative jobs than average workers. That doesn’t make them any better than you or I.
@hiflew: lmao, sorry, but they don’t ‘happen to have more lucrative jobs than average workers’. They’re supremely talented, blessed with genetics, and have worked harder (by a wiiiide margin) to get where they are than average workers.
Think of the millions of people who grow up wanting to play professional sports. These are the only ones remaining. It’s an insane amount of work to get where they are.
I’ve worked with with tons and tons of ‘average workers’ over the last few decades. Maybe 1% of them approach the level of commitment–physical and mental–that most (there’s for sure some that skate on genetics) elite athletes put forth. The vast majority of people are just doing a job, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Being a professional athlete is your entire life. To compare the average worker to a professional athlete seriously underestimates what goes into being a professional athlete.
Let me also add that you don’t seem to have any idea what goes into being an NBA player if you think they only work 100 days a year or that the average worker, with their 250 days works more.
You think they just lounge around on days when they don’t have a game? They just sit on the couch all day every day in the offseason? Please.
Well if that’s what you think, we have nothing more to say to each other. Have a nice day.
Quote: “Worker’s compensation does not give full pay to workers injured on the job…”
Maybe not in the oligarchic hellhole that’s the U.S., but in every civilized industrialized country injured workers receive not only full sick pay but also free medical treatment. Imagine that!
Man, wouldn’t it be nice and profitable if the U.S. reintroduced slavery again?
I agree with you in theory, but the NBA currently operates in the US, not any other country, so they will continue to operate under US laws.
I’ve never disputed that fact. Hence no need to build straw men and getting your nationalistic trigger pulled.
Obviously the NBA, even though “operating in the US under US laws” doesn’t agree with your feudalistic attitude. Looks like you won’t have a choice but to go through the excruciating pain of watching injured players getting paid.
Be assured of my deepest sympathy.
Feudalistic attitude? Seriously?
Yes.
Like many of you compatriots, your societal mindset seems to be stuck in the 18th century.
Maybe try to get out of the U.S. for once and experience a modern advanced society that respects workers rights and basic civilizing achievements such as sick pay, universal healthcare and free education.
Broadening one’s horizon is always a good thing.
Like, why do you care? The players and owners agreed to all of this with their CBA. If Kyrie Irving wants to sit out a month with a tummy ache, why do you care whether his billionaire owner pays him his full salary or not?
Why do sports fans in general have such an antagonistic relationship with players/athletes when it comes to their salaries? Is it jealousy at getting to play sports for a living? Their huge salaries themselves?
The Nets went into their relationship with Kyrie Irving with their eyes wide open. They knew what they were getting. Come playoff time, they’ll be fine.
Because I, in admittedly small part, pay their salaries. Collectively, every fan does through merchandise and tickets and many other routes. For that matter, even people that aren’t fans pay their salaries through their cable/satellite bills. In reality, they work for us. Take away the fans and most of these guys are just the same as guys you see playing hoops on asphalt with a chain link net.
And to throw your first question back at you, why do you care about my opinion so much? If you don’t like it, just move on with your life. All your words are not changing my mind.
If you want to claim you are indirectly paying their salaries, then you also agree that my taxes technically support your quality of life, so by your logic you work for me. And as my first order I ask that you stop spouting nonsense on here. Nothing you’re saying makes any sense. You’ve stretched a weak premise to it’s breaking point, and I don’t know whether to pity you or to worry for you.
You claiming to pay NBA players salaries because you watch them on tv is like me saying I’m best friends with The Rock because I saw Jumanji

None of above players is worth a first round pick if dumping portion of salary
How about those Knicks. Man every time we get PG play we win or play till end. It’s amazing how easy that is. Randle playing like an all star is starting to affect Obi1. Hope the hype don’t get to him. I believe Thibs is showcasing Randle to move him. Toppin has to concentrate on playing well wether it’s 10 mins or 20 mins. His day will come, stay positive and get better bro. NYK Froce is with you.
Nets play Sixers ….. I bet Ben shows Har en what D looks like. Expect a big gm from Ben. Kyrie can just tape that up. Man up up bro
Injury prone again???
