There’s more on a potential deal:
- Sources tell Ian Begley of SNY.tv that Ntilikina’s name has been brought up in trade talks. The point guard has an expiring contract and will be a restricted free agent after the season. Begley notes that the Pistons will likely ask for at least one draft pick, but he doesn’t think New York is willing to give up a first-rounder. Some Knicks representatives believed the team was close to acquiring Rose during the offseason, according to Begley. He adds that if New York pulls off a deal, it will probably be with the intention to re-sign Rose, who is also headed for free agency. The Knicks would own his Early Bird rights and could offer a contract ranging from two to four years with a starting salary up to $13.4MM or a one-year deal for as much as $9.2MM.
- The Pistons are interested in acquiring Smith, who recently asked to be sent to the G League for more playing time, writes Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports. With Blake Griffin‘s expensive contract likely on the books for another season, new general manager Troy Weaver has been working to reduce salary in other areas.
- Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic examines how a Rose deal would affect the Knicks, particularly rookie point guard Immanuel Quickley.
I’m not sure why NYK is interested in Rose. Does he really put them over the top for the 7th or 8th seed? They should keep all their picks and trust the scouts and GM. Next year’s draft class is loaded at the PG position, along with the FA class. This smells like a Thibs move all over again.
Pistons want salary dump
Knicks can outbid any hard capped teams like Clippers and Lakers
I do not trust
Pistons really like Smith Jr and Frank NT
My idea for Knicks
Frank and Hornets Second for Rose
Makes sense if they see rose as the right mentor for quickley, but i wouldn’t give any young player nor draft pick for him
Under NO circumstance should the Knicks include a 1st round pick. A second rounder maybe. Dennis Smith Jr, Frank Ntilikina sure. Knicks have clearly been fun to watch. However, they are going NOWHERE. Rose is 32 years old and does very little to move the needle. I don’t care how high or low the 1st rounders might be. The Knicks need to continue to look, think and act long term.
At this moment
West
15th seed Wolves trade away 2021 First
14th seed Mavs trade away 2021 First
All injury team Rockets trade away 2021 First
I don’t believe any more bottom teams will trade away 2021 First
I personally dont feel like Derrick Rose is a fit on the Knicks or Clippers, as much as he is with Detorit right now. Dwayne Casey is a terrible coach, and put them in the position they’re in, so I can see the argument for getting an asset out of Rose while they can…
If for whatever reason, a deal goes down with the Knicks, I could see something like
Derrick Rose and Rodney Mcgruder for Dennis Smith, and either Burks or Rivers. If you’re Detroit, you probably want Burks, if you’re the Knicks, you prefer to move Rivers, and it might make sense to add a pick to that, to keep the more favorable piece. The idea of a 1st rounder doesnt feel plausible to me though…
I could see Dennis Smith potentially having a chance to find something with Detroit’s roster as is, so just for that reason, it would be nice to see them land him.
Meanwhile, I think Mcgruder would give the Knicks some needed help on the wing, and it likely wouldnt hurt Detroit to move him b/c they havent consistently used him in their rotation, and they have some wing depth
If they are going after a PG why Rose? Who else is available knew they should of taken Halliburton.
This is a bad trade for NY no matter what they give Detroit in return, because (knowing Thibs) bringing Rose would only mean fewer minutes for Quickley.
