For the second time in two weeks, Heat guard Tyler Herro briefly entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols. When he was first affected by the protocols on January 31, Herro only had to sit out a practice before being cleared, but this time around, he missed Thursday’s game in Houston.
Still, Herro and the Heat got good news today, as the second-year sharpshooter was cleared to rejoin the Heat and resume basketball activities. According to Tim Reynolds of The Associated Press, Herro was flagged after a Thursday test result, but gained clearance after returning multiple negative tests and was able to join the team on its flight to Salt Lake City for Saturday’s game.
Here’s more from around the Southeast:
- In Herro’s absence, two-way player Max Strus took on an increased role on Thursday and had arguably the best game of his NBA career, scoring 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 25 minutes. Strus took advantage of the fact that the Heat were without guards Goran Dragic and Avery Bradley in addition to Herro, writes Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel. “I knew that my hard work would pay off at some point,” Strus said after the game. “To be honest, to be doing this this early in the season, I probably didn’t expect that. But it’s a weird year and there’s a lot of weird things going on. So you’ve just got to be ready.”
- Already without Markelle Fultz for the rest of the season and dealing with injuries to Michael Carter-Williams and Cole Anthony, the Magic lost another point guard on Thursday when Frank Mason left the game with a groin strain, as Roy Parry of The Orlando Sentinel details. Mason won’t play on Friday in Sacramento, but Carter-Williams is no longer on the injury report, meaning he should be available for the first time since January 4, tweets Josh Robbins of The Athletic.
- Given how well LaMelo Ball has played since entering the starting lineup, the Hornets will have to decide what role Devonte’ Graham will have when he returns from the groin injury that his sidelined him for the last three games, says Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer. “No matter if he’s a starter or off the bench — if he plays first quarter, second quarter, fourth quarter — the guy produces for us,” head coach James Borrego said of Graham. “Having him back on the floor is a good problem — a good thing for me and for us.”
Magic & Hornets should get together & help each other out.
LaVine has more value now than summer
Idea
Heat get LaVine
Bulls get Herro, Nunn and Kelly O
Third team to offer more assets
Uh, no.
Hornets missed their best window to trade Graham, which was after the draft and FA period (they got LeMelo and lots of teams didn’t get the PG they may have wanted). Graham is a guy I would think most teams looking for a PG would have been interested in. He’s good, he’s balanced in terms of scoring and facilitating, he defends, and his salary was team friendly.
He still might be desirable. But in season buyers are always fewer, and have less flexibility themselves, so the leverage changes. While they didn’t know about LeMelo then quite like they do now, it was unlikely that the 3rd overall pick wasn’t going to start by season’s end, and they already have an undersized combo in Rozier.
The guy shot below 40% from the field, doubt teams will line up for him)
He shoots too many 3’s (not uncommon for a young PG), and he doesn’t get much at the basket. Still, his effective FG% was pretty good for a 1st time starter.
Graham & Nunn are in similar situations. These guys can help somebody, but they won’t return a lot of value, so why trade them unless they ask for it, or somebody shows up cash in hand?
Lamelo needs rest like anyone & should be brought along at a natural rate. He’s 19-20 taking hits from near 40 year olds sometimes. Graham is great off the bench or even playing small ball if they get some better players.
I would trade Rozier, but I have been disappointed in his play since he left Boston, and am probably biased. I have only watched 1 full Hornets game this season. Rozier wasn’t great & he had a tough matchup. Not exactly a fair assessment.
That was confusing… did you mean Devonte’ Graham?— seems like you devalue your own assessment. Anyway the OP was about his previous trade value… Graham has dropped considerably in rank, from “(#) with a bullet”, to a lower (#). Maybe he should have his extraneous apostrophe taken away.
His 2pt fg% is his worst stat though, probably due to taking too many 2s, not such bad idea at the time. Hornets are better now.
I thought Rozier was looking confident as a “step into” shooter from three… an interesting evolution from being a kind of an on-the-run shooter with a low %. He’s a high-volume 44% deep shooter now. Maybe by next year, he plays to his salary!
All about price. He’s 25 years old coming off a quality year as a starter at a premium position. He’ll be a RFA after the season. Team just drafted over him. Merely saying he’s good to have as a backup doesn’t really address how the team should proceed at that point.
Herro missed one game, but BTW, the Magic is missing four PGs… seems like HR’s covid coverage is getting overblown.
Knicks will give you Payton for Bamba
