After having their Friday and Saturday games postponed due to the government shutdown of the Toyota Center and the ongoing weather-related issues in Texas, the Rockets aren’t a sure thing to host the Bulls in Houston on Monday. But if that game is played as scheduled, the team is hoping Victor Oladipo can be available for it, sources tell Kelly Iko of The Athletic (Twitter link).
Oladipo hasn’t played since February 11 due to a right foot strain, with the team’s losing streak extending to seven games during that time. However, if the Rockets play on Monday and the two-time All-Star is able to return, he’ll have only missed three games while resting the injury for 10 days.
Here’s more from around the Southwest:
- Rockets big man Christian Wood (ankle sprain) isn’t as close to returning as Oladipo is, but he posted a message on Instagram on Thursday indicating that he’s aiming to get back on the court before the All-Star break, as Mark Berman of FOX 26 Houston relays (via Twitter).
- Appearing on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said he doesn’t view a big man who can rebound as a pressing trade deadline need, but added that he’ll leave that decision up to the front office (Twitter link via Callie Caplan of The Dallas Morning News). “You know Mark (Cuban) and Donnie (Nelson),” Carlisle said. “These guys are gunslingers. They’re riverboat gamblers, and they’re ready to talk about anything that would get the team better.”
- When the Grizzlies acquired Justise Winslow a year ago, he seemed destined to supplant Kyle Anderson as the team’s small forward of the future. However, Winslow has yet to make his debut in Memphis and remains a major question mark, opening the door for Anderson to reclaim that role, as Chris Herrington of The Daily Memphian writes.
Congrats HOU you are the first benefactor of the Corona restrictions & safety protocols!
Gunslinger & Riverboat gamblers? That pretty much describes the stories & reports that came out about the Mavs FO work environment last year. Interesting choice of words Rick!
Slow Mo Anderson is actually faster & quicker this season. He’s making a case for himself, but Winslow is gonna be hard for him to play in front of long term.
Slow Mo is another deserving most improved candidate.
The Rockets aren’t playing because of the winter storm not because of Covid.
Yeah…Sensitive Fanboy isn’t really concerned with facts or reality. He is really sensitive, though, (based on his previous posts), so he has that going for him. On another note, I hate it when my power is out, and I sympathize with people who have to deal with it for an extended period of time.
I thought they had a game cancelled with the Spurs & this. I am probably mistaken. Oops, nice catch whiplash!
Midi Mo for MIP!
His power is not out!
I would hardly call them benefactors when you consider that even though the league postponed their season opener against OKC they still had to play the next two games after that with 7 players out. In fact they have only had three games the entire season with all of their rotation players available (and won all 3 of them). In seven of their losses this season, they were missing anywhere from 3 to 6 of the ten guys in their rotation. So not a benefactor.
They’re all still alive aren’t they? Fam mems? So not a mallefactor either. A Midifactor one might continue, if one was willing to misspell.
Winslow ?????? What happened to this guy. Thought he would be a solid 3. 2way player of the future, a strong physical 3. Don’t get it.
Always injured. Can’t do anything big you can’t stay on the court.
True that. Still young maybe he gets it together
Winslow’s promise was the last piece pushing the HEAT to the finals, by getting traded for Crowder, Hill & Iguodala to Miami.
Nice try Memphis FO team, it looked so perfect, with their new HC wanting a playmaking 3, not a spotshooting 3.
Mavs need a rebounding pf like a collins from atlanta and then have maxi come off the bench at the 4 or 5 and give extra energy to that group. WCS isnt doing much
Dallas to go hard after Kawhi in the offseason.
What a three headed snake that would be. The Don, the klaw and the unicorn. Then fill out the team with some smart cheap free agents.
Danny Green, Mo Harkless, Etwon Moore and Hassan Whiteside.
1. Doncic. Brunson. Terry
2. D. Green. Moore. J. Green
3. Leonard. Harkless. Iwundu
4. Porzingis. Kleber. Finney-Smith
5. Whiteside. Powell
2022 champions
If Kawhi goes to join Luka, they will crash the Lakers. But it would hurt Kawhi’s legacy. I think he is destined to join Miami
why would kawhi leave his hometown? he already has two rings and two finals mvps
hes not leaving
Mavs were supposed to get Giannis to, we saw how that turned out… Dallas may get Oladipo if they are lucky..
Winslow is a 4/guard, depending on who else is on the roster
Government shuts down Toyota center. I know the weather too. If a game Monday will they play in Chicago instead. Hoping Oladipo can play because think he will not be with Rockets much longer. Think will be gone at trade deadline. Wonder how games will be made up in second half if at all. Rockets will not matter so can skip their games.
Hopefully everyone dealing with crazy snow storms that resulted in power outages can pull through.. It is definitely not a good feeling.
On another note it’s okay to trade Oladipo Rockets. It isn’t the be all or end all if he is dealt!
If you don’t plan on keeping Oladipo they should get something for him. They got up close view so should know how healthy he is. Other teams might not offer a big contract. Possible he will take 1-2 yr contract to show he’s healthy and deserves contract. Right now I would not invest big contract on him. So it will be interesting to see the offers Rockets will get, if any.
