Having seen other NBA stars face criticism for requesting trades in recent years, Wizards guard Bradley Beal is privately “frustrated and confused” by the portrayal of his situation in D.C., according to Fred Katz and Shams Charania of The Athletic.
As Katz and Charania explain, Beal likes the idea of spending his career with one team and would love to establish a legacy in Washington like Dirk Nowitzki‘s in Dallas — Nowitzki spent his 21-year NBA career with the Mavericks, winning a title with the club in year 13. However, Beal feels as if he’s being “nitpicked” for remaining loyal to a struggling Wizards club.
The Athletic’s duo confirms that Beal continues to express a desire to remain in Washington rather than a preference to be traded. The Wizards have just a 4-12 record so far this season, but the hope is that Sunday’s impressive comeback win over Brooklyn can be the start of a turnaround rather than a rare bright spot.
Here’s more on the Wizards:
- In a HoopsHype podcast, Fred Katz and Michael Scotto discussed a number of Wizards-related topics, including where things stand with head coach Scott Brooks. Katz believes that Wizards owner Ted Leonsis will be less inclined to fire Brooks during the season and pay him the remainder of his $7MM salary after having furloughed 40% of his company’s employees in 2020. “I think this is an organization that thinks about optics and that kind of stuff,” Katz said. “I don’t think the optics are there to pay somebody that much when you just furloughed that many people not to work for you in the middle of an economic crisis in the middle of a pandemic.”
- Brooks told reporters on Monday that Raul Neto will be out for at least a couple games due to a left groin strain (Twitter link via Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington). Ish Smith, who missed a handful of games due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols, will reclaim backup point guard duties in Neto’s absence.
- In case you missed it, we noted on Monday that Wizards guard Garrison Mathews is among the players on two-way contracts making a case for a promotion to a standard contract.
Beal kinda put this on himself. His comments came off like “please some good team get me out of here”.
What comments? Comments that he hates losing? Not sure that means he wants a trade…
I love the mindset of being a one-team player but Beal needs to realize the Wizards will never be the team that can get him a ring.
Beal trade value reveal, let you guess
Pelicans Warriors Heat have assets
Mavs don’t have assets. Heat assets are not attractive
Brad wants to see this thing in DC through. Leave the guy alone. He has faith in this process.
Wait, so you mean some guys are happy just making 30M a year playing basketball? How odd.
Beals never asked out of DC . He’s been frustrated of course. Only people fueling this is the media because it gets lots of clicks , and the fans with their unrealistic trade ideas. I’m not a Washington fan but admire the man for wanting to put the work in and not request a trade to a contender.
O poor Beal boo-hoo . His contract is up soon. It’s what happens to all stars (I assume he thinks he’s one). When their contract is up and their team suxxx. So why exactly is this a story or why care. The 30 mill is not enough to dull your feelings. Wizards or any NBA franchise would be FOOLS to not listen to offers. It’s called doing business in the NBA.
I know this not Beal talking. But players becoming entitled and divas. Is really starting to freakin bother me. It’s whyI gave up MLB and their fake stats. The whole performance enhancers era, still going on.
Beal enjoys the losing situation… At least his family is happy…
I really am sick & tired of all the rumors about Beal.
He is happy in WAS & wants to play the rest of his career there.
End of the story… if fans of “so called” contending teams are so desperate for star players, then they should, draft them or develop them instead of trying to force their trash unto other teams for their stars.
Can y’all stop with this trade rumors, please?
BTW seems that some people just live to propose trades… but no one cares about trades, drafts, FA agents… all of that is only fillers for the real deal the season, which now is on, so no time for trades or other distractions… enjoy the games!
“BTW seems like some people live to propose trades…but no one cares about trades”
Another beautiful El Donism.
Beal is right. Too much silliness by the reporters covering this and fans. A guy shouldn’t have to explain why he’s fulfilling his contract and not doing something (asking for a trade) that it prohibits. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to win, or is some throwback in terms of loyalty. It probably means he’s not a penguin, who believes he’s compelled to do what he saw others in his situation do – just so idiots (in and out of the media) can make sense of the world. It might also mean that he owns the losing, and believes it’s as much do to his failings as a star as those of his teammates in support. It usually is and, in that case, a change in location won’t change anything.
In case you can’t read or forgot. All of you come here for >>>>>>>>>>

Every sport is built on it. There is a business for it only. No one here knows Beal personally. So it’s all Rumors. The NBA is built on rumors and trades and FA. Get a grip . It’s only a gm. And they get paid more than well enough for it. Fact is rumors only help their brand. Please
Brooks is one of the few really good coaches who can handle any stage rebuild like a pro.
None of the sytemic problems in WAS are his creation. I wouldn’t fire him.
When Brad Beal begins to be known for his defense. The Wizards will actually start winning games.
Maybe if the wizards didn’t trade for Westbrook and instead trade John wall for somebody that make his teammates better.
