Wizards head coach Scott Brooks doesn’t think the All-Star Game should be played this season, Fred Katz of The Athletic tweets. The league and the National Basketball Players Association agreed to hold it in Atlanta next month.
“I saw (LeBron James‘) thoughts on it. I agree. I’m upset,” Brooks said. “I love Atlanta, but I don’t want to go. I’ve been to two All-Star Games…and I don’t want to go. I agree with him.”
We have more on the Wizards:
- Davis Bertans re-signed with the club for five years and $80MM in November, but his 3-point stroke has been off this season. Katz breaks down Bertans’ struggles in an in-depth Athletic story. Bertans is shooting 33.1% from long range after making 42% of his attempts the past two seasons and it appears he still doesn’t have his legs under him, according to Katz.
- Rookie guard Cassius Winston has been transferred to the Erie BayHawks to play in the G League season in Orlando, the team tweets. Washington’s G League team, the Capital City Go-Go, is not participating in the event. The second-round pick out of Michigan State has appeared in six NBA games and will receive much-needed playing time in Orlando.
- Prior to Washington’s 27-point loss to Miami on Friday, second-year forward Rui Hachimura and rookie forward Deni Avdija appeared to be trending in the right direction after the team’s COVID-19 pause, Ava Wallace of the Washington Post writes.
Wizards and Wolves salaries are almost in the tax line
Any trade proposal should not add salary to them and let them pay luxury tax
Salary dump trade is needed
I’m cheap
If I were Pelicans owner, I’d add picks to dump Redick contract
It would be a waste of draft picks to dump Redick and his $13M contract.
It would be much easier just to give him a buy out since they’re $2.5M below the luxury tax, so they can sign another player to a minimum contract without going over. It’s not like the Pelicans are serious contenders anyway.
Agreed. I don’t see them trading those picks just to get Redick off their books. I think Benson is fine letting this roster be below average this season and use the shortened offseason as an excuse. This is the season that should be an asterisk due to the 8 week offseason they implemented IMO.
Sillivan must be doing his taxes early this year since every post is about saving teams’ tax money.
If that’s the case then the Warriors should hire him to do their taxes.
I love it when he says “I’m cheap” lmao
He would totally operate a NBA franchise like it’s 1973 before the NBA/ABA merger deal.
Wizards have a decently bright future if they can build around Hachimura and Avdija.
Bradley Beal although he says he wants to stay is very unhappy with the performances and I’m assuming that would make the locker room abit all over the place. He doesn’t sit with the team on some timeouts, he’s told the defence isn’t good enough, he gets frustrated in games. I think if your a young guy and your trying your best it would be hard to play with someone who’s just so negative. Obviously it sucks to be losing and you want to do better but it makes you feel like crap when you have him being such a diva. It stunts their growth, hurts their confidence and makes them unhappy that’s not what you want.
Wizards should trade Beal and get an absolute haul back. Like multiple young players and multiple picks. Your not going to just click and win 10 games in a row and all of a sudden make the playoffs, that’s not happening. Sack Scott Brooks and go in with someone new and fresh. You could end up with something like:
1. Micheal Porter Jr, Gary Harris, Bol Bol and 2x1st
2. Bogdanovic, John Collins, Reddish and 2 firsts
3. Lonzo Ball, Reddick, Hayes, Hart and 3 first
Now obviously your going to continue losing but atleast you can stop trying to win and being unsuccessful and causing all the player to be unhappy. Now yourve gone young embracing the rebuild, will lose game but players will be more confident, more comfortable and can grow and develop.
Don’t really watch Wizards. And I know they have Injuries. I like Westbrook and think they should have a better record. With their talent they should be a playoff team. If you look at their loses (5-14). Out of the 14, they had 4 blow outs. 7 are by 8 pts or less. Easily could be 9-10 with some luck. Reality is real though. And 9-10 they are a playoff team. Like I said I don’t really watch them. So I couldn’t tell you why excatly. I like Westbrook and think he gets a bad rap.
That’s pretty accurate. They could easily be an above 500 team. They’ve played some extremely close games that ended up as losses. They had 2 weeks of Covid problems and lost Thomas Bryant in that stretch. Brooks has to be one of the worst if not the worst coach in the league and has been a huge factor in them losing games.
If they didnt lose Bryant and Westbrook didnt fall
off a cliff Id agree
but the idea of this team (to me) was Westbrook and Beal give u All NBA seasons supplemented by Bryant and Bertans
Bertans has shot poorly, Bryant tore his ACL, and Westbrook hasnt been All Star never mind All NBA level
They need to go Presti and nuke everything for picks- btwn Bertans and Beal they should be able to get a few
They’re now 3-3 without Russ and 2-12 with him in the lineup. Westbrook is the classic example of a player whose stats are far better than his actual play.
