3:00pm: The trade has been expanded to include the Celtics as well. The full details can be found right here.
11:32am: The Wizards will send Troy Brown and Moritz Wagner to the Bulls in exchange for Daniel Gafford and Chandler Hutchison, tweets ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Washington will create a $2.1MM trade exception in the deal, tweets Bobby Marks of ESPN.
Brown, 21, was the 15th pick in the 2018 draft, but he has appeared in just 21 games this year, averaging 4.3 PPG. Brown is under contract for $5.2MM next season and will be extension-eligible this offseason. Wagner, 23, who has a $2.2MM expiring contract, was a part-time starter in Washington, averaging 7.1 points and 2.9 rebounds in 25 games.
Since the Wizards declined Wagner’s team option for 2021/22, Chicago won’t be able to offer him a starting salary this offseason higher than what that option would have been worth ($3.89MM).
Gafford, a second-year big man, has a $1.8MM non-guaranteed salary for next season. He’s averaging 4.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 31 games. Hutchison, also a first-round pick in 2018, has appeared in just seven games this year. He will make $4MM next season and will also be eligible for an extension this offseason.
Bulls cleared the roster! I like Gafford for the Wiz!
Gafford is goin to have a long nba career as a competent backup center, he just didn’t fit Donovan’s system and Hutchison hasn’t played in months because of ? He’s not injured and goes to every game tough to say what’s goin on in his life
Adios – White is the next to go
#Bulls
Well, the Bulls can’t trade Thad now. This might mean they’re keeping Markannen too. Nor a lot of depth behind Vucevic
I think getting another PF (Wagner) means they might be able to trade Thad. But they’re also trying to be more competitive this year, so keeping that would of course make sense. He’s a winner.
Bulls should just keep Young. Young is doing an excellent job and is under contract for this season and next season.
I agree. I like that AK is getting rid of the GarPax players and making moves to make this roster in his vision. Gotta fix the PG problem still. I’m thinking Coby White/Denzel for Ball. The salaries match up perfectly and I think Donovan is done with Coby.
I think out of the two of Lauri/Thad, Lauri is the one likely to head out the door. Bulls have rebuffed trades for Thad, and taking calls on Lauri.
True. Wish the Bulls had picked up JaVale McGee also. Oh well. Bulls will have to live with Kornet and Felicio as their back ups centers for now.
Its not ideal of course but youre also expecting 25/12 for 34-36 min a game from Vuc so the amount of time Fel and Korny play will be minimal and maybe the next deal esp wit hWagner playing too and Thad (apparently) staying
I think the Bulls have shown that they are playing for this season. I doubt they will be selling off anyone for future assets.
Sure…
Wagner can play the 5 of the bench. I hope The wiz give Gafford a Run.
If he can defend (even the slightest bit) he’ll be getting plenty of playing time.
Man I like gafford as a bull why F can’t we get rid of Felico if no one wants his contract just cut him take hit sign cheap fa bring someone up from G league
Fellacio keeps all the towels very clean, he is irreplaceable.
I like this deal too. Gaff was mostly an energy guy, Mo Wagner is a better perimeter defender and better shooter. I have no idea who Brown is other than salary filler.
My bet is that they still are sending a PF somewhere for a pg. Brogdon is still out there, and he would fit even better than Lonzo.
I like Troy Brown more than Denzel Valentine. Bigger, more athletic, younger and has game.
Bulls just need a better starting point guard and they are good.
Bulls: “Hey Wiz, you want some of our old patio furniture?”
Wiz: “Yes, but only if you take some of ours”
I could see them moving Markannen now. Washington adds a potential energy big they’ve needed at times, and Hutchinson is theoretically a defender they’ve needed on the wing, although Troy Brown is similar in that regard. Both have guard skills too. Interesting move. Kind of a little gamble by Washington, in my opinion, but worth for them
