The Cavaliers couldn’t find a taker for Andre Drummond before the trade deadline, so the two sides will begin talks on a buyout, tweets Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Cleveland was hoping to get at least a draft pick for the veteran center, but the right offer never came. Drummond’s $28.75MM salary was an impediment to getting a deal done, as most teams would have needed to include valuable players to match salaries. The Celtics, Knicks, Mavericks and Bulls were among the teams rumored to have interest in trading for Drummond.
Drummond is still a productive player, averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, but he hasn’t played since February 12 while the Cavs have been searching for a trade partner. The 27-year-old will be a restricted free agent this summer.
The Lakers are considered the favorites to sign Drummond once he clears waivers, according to a report this week.
Theis out! Moritz Wagner in!
What a surprise.
They played chicken with him for a month and a half just to buy him out? Lmao
Sucks to see for him, especially since he sat out a month just to get a buyout, but the Cavs tried hard to find a suitor I’m sure. But getting Allen in itself is enough to not ostracize the Cavs for missing out on getting anything in return for him. Good news for Drummond is he gets to pick his next situation. Wish him luck.
Drummond may keep his word on if he is bought out after-all. A team as close to NY as possible that will have me. Boston is pretty close to NY, and it sure isn’t gonna be Philly or Brooklyn. Toronto is in Tampa Bay!
Yeah I don’t think Drummond ever said or promised he will sign to a team near NY. He is from NY, but he kept quiet the entire time he was in trade rumors. Do you have a source thats says he said that?
With the name in your title I would assume you are familiar with cavs archives and how to find them. I do not remember the source per say, but it was on here, and or hoopshype. Maybe a month to a month and a half ago. Why is left handed calling me out on a public forum easier than googling this information? I am not a liar who makes things up to troll the internet. Seems like that was the insuation rather than verifying an easily verifiable national sports news story. Correct me if I am wrong?
Lol yeah I would be familiar as a Cavs fan. I did google it, and found nothing. You can’t provide a source and I can’t find it either, that’s why I’m calling you out. He never made a promise, how could he do that when he is under contract for a team? Not like this topic is even important, but there’s your correction.
At least we got draft picks from McGee trade!
Agreed
I’ve read a lot of rumors of Knicks being in on this till end. But I thought trading for him was best surest way to get him. Then I read they have agreed on extension. That makes more sense to me. Cause I would think Nets can offer Dinwiddie IE money plus ring chase. So could Celtics, Heat, Lakers all offer ring chase. I like Drummond for us cause it makes us deep and serious. Mitch is young so they can share for a few yrs. Especially if it don’t cost much. And money is no issue for Knicks. But if true means they have to move Noel. So what does that mean we get back.
Have always said Minny should jump on Noel next to KAT. Just saying

“Also, the Knicks have a lot of cap space and could sign him to a new contract next offseason (there are rumors of a four-year, $60 million offer, which would be more than most would offer him). With the Lakers, Drummond’s playoff role would likely shrink the deeper the team went into the playoffs —“

If by some miracle Drummond comes to NY do they trade Mitch in a package for hopefully someone like Beal?
We got more assets you never know. But Drummond has to work for us first. Trust in Thibs bro. He’s doing this right taking his time. It’s only first yr here. We got 3 of top 32 picks in draft. We are almost there.
Shouldn’t buy him out and keep alive sign and trade hopes next off season. Nobody has cap space and he wants at least 20. I would have made a deal to send Love to Brooklyn and a top 3 protected first for Dinwiddie, Harris and promised to cut Drummond. So they can pick him up for nothing. Would have thru in Windler or Dotson too.
That wouldn’t work financially at all. Love’s $30m contract is untradeable, let alone to a team with no cap space like the Nets. Also Cavs aren’t trading their picks.
Just a thought… with Oladipo in hand.. Aldridge coming in a few days… could Drummond consider going to Miami? Three headed front court of Bam, Drummond, and LA… along with a back court of Oladipo, Herro, Nunn, and Dragic… with Jimmy holding down the swing (let alone 3-4 more depth pieces)…. that’s a title team boys.
Its def a gun fully loaded with ammo going into battle that’s for sure – Probably last day to get good odds on Mia hoisting it all…go get it quick!
Celtics dealing Theis away, they need to push hard to sign Drummond now
Lakers are the favorite because Drummond would start at center, no question. He’d get to do what he does best around the rim and work with a great organization that wants to win it all. He’s a nightmare for Rudy Gobert too. The Celtics, Knicks, and Heat aren’t even going to get close to Finals this year.
lol yeah right..Boston needs him more but drummond is a low IQ player so he could be a double edge sword
