The Celtics have emerged as a contender to watch in the pursuit of center Andre Drummond, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times (Twitter link).
Drummond reached a buyout agreement with the Cavaliers on Friday, which allows him to officially become a free agent on Sunday once he clears waivers. Boston met with the 27-year-old following his release, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (as relayed by Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports).
The Celtics traded away starting center Daniel Theis on deadline day and could pitch a strong role to Drummond, though teams such as the Lakers are expected to provide competition for his services. Boston started third-year player Robert Williams III at center in its game against Milwaukee on Friday.
Drummond averaged 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 28.9 minutes in 25 games with the Cavaliers this season. Other teams such as the Clippers, Nets, Knicks and Hornets could also entice the veteran as he looks to set himself up for free agency this year.
After TT salary dump trade, Celtics have 15 million tax room to sign Fournier and Dinosaur
It’s more likely that Celtics would let one of them walk in summer
Dinosaur would demand average 32 minutes a game
I don’t know why anyone thinks this dinosaur is the missing piece for LA, Boston, Brooklyn, or whatever team thinks it can win a championship. The only time most teams use a true center these days is at the beginning of each half. These guys are always on the bench late in the game during crunch time.
Yet you couldn’t wait to wear your Centers shorts. Changing your name again. You’ve got to be the most uninformed HOMER. Do I have to post every teams Centers mins.
Maybe because in the NBA you have to at least be able to match up. Didn’t you learn anything from the disgrace of the Bubble. LOL Hahahahahahahahaha
Wood avgs 31 mins a gm ……
he can rebound. and he can still score.
LA needs him with all their injured players
Tristian is stlll a Celtic. Drummond is going to the Lakers or Nets. Nobody goes to the Celtics in buyouts unless you are like 50-10 in 2008 we got Cassell and Brown.
Idk, only thing TT can do better than Drummond is be less dumb. Everything else is Drummond.
Celtics should have attached a future First to dump TT this week, not Theis
The Knicks can offer him the most $. Why wouldn’t he go there? That’s if their interested in Drummond. I think the Lakers got a better shot of signing him them the Nets.
trying play for this next contract — going to the lakers and having bron make him look good could be lucrative long term
Danny needs to do whatever it takes to get Drummond. Offer him his own home in Boston if that’s what it takes
Dinosaur lives in the sea, he doesn’t need house
He needs time. Max contract is more important than house
So you’re saying that Drummond is a plesiosaur just like Nessie?
where do u get your shrooms?
No one’s giving him a max contract on the buyout market……
That’s when I discovered Andre Drummond was a 50 ft tall monster from the Paleozoic Era
This feels like going through the motions. Don’t see Drummond ending up on the Cs.
Celtics would be wise to sign Drummond. Getting him makes them a legit contender. Simple as that. Truth is they should also resign him. Drummond fits Celtics, Hornets, Raptors, Mavs, Heat long term the best. But he can help all contenders now. I mean you’d have to be an Uninformed HOMER to not see that. I believe besides Knicks the Nets can offer Drummond most money .
On paper he makes sense for a lot of teams…time will tell how it plays out. Also not clear on his motivations. He wants to contend I’m sure, but also wants money, and wants to play for a contract. Which team fits all that criteria?
I’d lean towards Lakers if I had to bet. But that means he leaves money on the table. Depends which motivation is most important.
He should be motivated. All the critics and media are killing him. He wins and has big showing. Teams will want to sign him. With Aldridge going to Nets. Celtics, Heat, Lakers all should be knocking on his door right now lol. I mean right now.
he can rebound. and he can still score.
LA needs him with all their injured players
!!!
From Connecticut. Went to UCONN. Still does a ton of charity work in the state. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him sign with Boston or the Knicks.
What are the Lakers doing? They fall asleep and haven’t woken up yet? Go get this man! Clearly they need help and aren’t doing anything about. Just gonna settle for signing some scrubs late in the season I bet. I know last year they won it all but that was last year. Have to have a lot of luck on your side to stay healthy and clearly that luck isn’t on their side this season so they really need to get someone. Can’t see anyone making more of an impact than this guy could.
Celtics don’t deserve him, go to the lakers…
Maybe he waits to get more measure of the health of LJ&AD (IDK how long he can). LJ or Thibs would be willing to slow the pace for him; Stevens may not.
Dallas could also use him. They were supposed to toughen up, but lost JamesJ in their only trading. I think they have some room.
