Rockets big man Christian Wood is expected to return on Wednesday night vs. the Warriors after missing the last 17 games with a sprained ankle, a source tells Tim MacMahon of ESPN (Twitter link). Houston has lost 17 times in a row since Wood went down with the injury.
Wood will start and will be on a minutes restriction, adds Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston (Twitter link).
Prior to the ankle sprain, Wood was making a case for an All-Star spot, averaging 22.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game with a .558/.421/.688 shooting line in 17 contests (31.2 MPG).
At the time of Wood’s injury, the Rockets were in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race at 11-10. Now, they have the NBA’s third-worst record and are considered likely to be sellers at the trade deadline, with Wood viewed as perhaps the lone untouchable player on the roster.
Even with Wood back in the lineup, Houston figures to have a shortage of depth on Wednesday vs. Golden State. John Wall (knee), Eric Gordon (groin), David Nwaba (wrist), Danuel House (knee), Ben McLemore (ankle), Dante Exum (calf), and Rodions Kurucs (oblique) are also dealing with injuries, while P.J. Tucker is away from the team as he awaits a trade. However, House and McLemore have been upgraded to questionable for Wednesday’s game, tweets Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.
Nice to see Wood back. I hope too that Rockets keep Porter and Martin as part of future. I certainly was not expecting this kind of season but hope can get some players and draft picks for going forward. I would love some veteran players at least just as guidance to help these young players. But looking forward to what he will bring tonight
18 — 18 — 18 — 18 Is coming. Wood or no Wood
Rockets — 11 – 27
Wizards — 14 – 24
Suns — 26 – 12
Nets — 26 – 13
The Reality is really worse than the fantasy. A Homers reality today. With #1 pick going to OKC.
Damm you really hate us hey? You are starting to like John Starks…
But don’t worry, we will get back to playoffs before you guys anyway.
Not a hater really. Although I will never forget Starks bad shooting day and Olajuwon block. Rockets were deeper, better. This is more for an overly zealous Rocket fan. Who constantly attacks players and teams to try and make Rockets look better.
You know the Rockets pick is top 4 protected so the #1 pick wouldn’t go to OKC, right? Considering you’re just a troll, I wouldn’t guess you do much research, though.
All this losing is helping the Rockets’ chances of keeping their high draft pick if they can do well in the lottery and secure a spot in the top 4. Otherwise they will swap with OKC, but that would still leave them with a decent pick somewhere around #9 or #10.
How many more name changes you think you got in you. Show CP3 some respect. How’s it feel to see a washed up Injury prone player. Have double the wins your team has. Knicks already have more wins than you predicted. Tell us all again your insight on the horrible Knick franchise. Criticism is healthy. Hating comes back around. Homerism can be detrimental lol
Rockets — 11 – 27 Uninformed Homerism
Knicks — 20 – 21
Only worst record guarantees a top 5 pick. I don’t see a 4 there do you. I would like to see them keep their pick. I’m the first one here who said they would after trading Harden. Don’t take it personal. This is for the overzealous Rocketman. Who talks more and trolls more than any other poster on here.
Right NameChanger ….. time to show CP3 his respect.
Finally can’t wait to see him and Patton play together
Cant wait to see Kerr misuse Wiseman again, what a “great” coach this clown actually is, smh
Steph never needed anyone. He just needed a better coach who knew how to use him correctly. Instead he got a guy who couldnt win unless KD was there, and one who now benches him while they are behind, so he can play 19 year olds for 6 minutes against Lebron James. UGH. Draymond for player-coach NEEDS TO HAPPEN!!!
Maybe they would have been better off keeping Luke Walton instead since they went 39-4 during his brilliant reign as interim head coach. It will be so nice if we see this insane losing streak snapped tonight against the Warriors.
Mon what would be sooo cool is HOU loosing again, that will be an all-time record for the franchise, a night for the history books… winning would be such a bummer, right?
The best thing for the Rockets is to continue to lose. They have basically zero shot at making the playoffs. Might as well throw their hat in for the #1 pick.
Yeah …… what’s the record for longest losing streak? That’s what you should be focused on. Especially you lose to Pistons. (26)
Twentysix …… #TwoSix
I see at least six more loses.
Kerr has a lot of rings, both as a player and a coach. He must know something about the game. Draymond as a coach would be like Rondo as a coach, likely league record for technical ejections.
Kerr is the right kind of coach for a team with savvy veterans, keeps his cool and treats them like adults. Maybe not as good a coach for teenagers, but in the end his record speaks for itself.
Rockets will get back their WOOD !!
Wood is overrated, good player with poor efficiency, only reason the rockets were 10-11 with him was because Harden was on the team in most of those games
The Rockets were 2-6 in games Harden played.
If anything he’s underrated. Despite all of the injuries, roster turnover, and key players missing games due to covid tracing they still managed to go 8-9 with C. Wood in their lineup. Then they lose a franchise record 17 in a row without him, and that makes him overrated? Whatever. Now he will also have two young players in the rotation who dominated the G-League, known as Martin and Porter.
Watch him play D. Still got a ways to go. Not even worth arguing lol.
When a team gets into a winning streak, they start to play like they can’t lose – just having fun. The contrapositive is also true, long losing streaks create a sort of dread and fear of making mistakes, too much thinking during the game. Rockets will probably win next when they stop caring. If Silas was a half-decent coach this wouldn’t happen, half of his job is to play psychologist with the team so they can just play to their best level. This team is clearly underperforming, as they have some talented players.
I hate to tell Marty this, but what they need is Steve Kerr as coach. 8-p
I want to be fair with Silas but really cannot feel it with him and assistants. Maybe a place holder till build a team then bring in a coach and more. I know this season was not what he was expecting But I do wish Wood well in his return.
