The Lakers announced on Friday that Anthony Davis would miss at least the next two weeks as he continues to recover from his right calf strain and tendinosis. However, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Davis is unlikely to return immediately after the end of that two-week timeline.
Sources tell Haynes that the Lakers’ star forward/center is expected to be out for the next three weeks, and potentially longer than that. Even if Los Angeles slips a little more in the standings without Davis in its lineup, the team wants to be cautious in its handling of one of its two superstars, Haynes writes.
Including the game in which Davis went down, the Lakers have lost seven of their last 11, but they’re still comfortably holding a playoff spot in the West — they’re the No. 3 seed, at 25-13.
Here’s more from Haynes:
- Injured Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic (wrist) plans on making his return in about two weeks, sources tell Yahoo Sports. CJ McCollum (foot) said over the weekend that he’s aiming to return this week, so Portland could get two key starters back in its lineup before the end of the month.
- According to Haynes, Celtics center Tristan Thompson is a candidate to be moved prior to next Thursday’s trade deadline, with the Raptors among his possible landing spots. The Toronto native has long been linked to his hometown team, and while nothing has ever come of those rumors, a union would make more sense now that the Raptors are in the market for an upgrade at center.
- Cavaliers center JaVale McGee – who has drawn interest from contenders, including the Nets – isn’t entertaining a buyout, so if he changes teams, it will be via trade, says Haynes. While Brooklyn may prefer his teammate Andre Drummond, McGee’s modest $4.2MM salary will make him easier to move in a deal.
- We passed along a few more items from Haynes earlier today, including notes on DeMar DeRozan, John Wall, and Hassan Whiteside.
I saw that Knicks may be interested in giving Drummond a multi-year deal if they acquire him. The Knicks should have the cap space to absorb his contract if they send Ntilikina and Burks to the Cavs. For the Cavs to free a roster space to make the deal work, I could see them trading Javale McGee to the Nets for a second rounder. McGee would fit in Dinwiddie’s DPE.
The one benefit for the Nets for acquiring McGee over taking a chance that Drummond would hit the buy-out market and come to them is that McGee wouldn’t have to “ramp up” the way Drummond would. Like Griffin, Drummond would be coming off a significant layoff at home. I don’t see the Nets offering Drummond anything past this season anyway.
Tristan Thompson to the Tampa bay raptors?
TT to Toronto means Lowry multi team deal maybe…
Anthony Davis is done for the rest of this season and most of next year. We all saw the injury. He got his ring. LeBron got a ring as a Laker. Mission accomplished. This Davis injury ends the run. Bron can’t get that ship this year without Ant. Bron might not be able to get past the 1st round of the playoffs with this crew Pelinka put together. Bron can’t get that ship next year with this crew and Ant at 80%. Kuzma is not the answer. Even Kuzma knows that now. Looking like the Clippers gonna have to hold it down for L.A. If Bron is trying to hold on long enough to play with Bronny ….. things could get complicated ….. Bronny just ain’t good like that despite the way the media attempts to portray him. Bronny at least 5-6 years away from being ready if he is ever ready. He ain’t that good. He ain’t got no reason to be good. His checks ain’t never gonna bounce.
AD not done for the year.. with the rest, he will be at 8+weeks.. Kd was rushed back aftern32 days.. major difference.. clippers, They sure held it down versus the pelicans last night..
Lakers are smart in not rushing AD back. His injury was never a short stay on the DL. AD will be back a few weeks before the playoffs begin.
Smart ? He got injured after a 10 days rest and still is … So LA have to make a move now if IS coming back late or out of shape …
AD is done +1
Trade Nurkic !!!! Please !!!!
Clippers will never a championship bro.
LA doesn’t care about anything less.
That’s why everybody thinks the clippers are a joke.
What an awful, rambling assessment of the state of the Lakers
Lakers are holding on to one hope to save the season. They need Andre Drummond to hit the buyout market in the worst way. Then they have to convince him to come and chase a ring. The will have no “Bird” rights to re-sign him. The Knicks are waiting to pounce with a multi-year offer. Laker fans always knew Davis is made out of glass. You guys got a ring (short season). It was at least for the most part worth it. Not sure if Bron and A.D. gonna still have a title run in them in 2022-23.
H8ER!!!
Pull your head out. Clearly the Lakers will make the playoffs without AD, so why bother playing him until then? Any big off the buyout market is just for depth….and if they’re playing the Rockets, blowouts. TAKE THAT HARDENRUSSMVP
Moving Thompson is a good move for Celtics. Means Aldridge is coming ???? Or Horford is coming ????
How about Kemba for Lowry …… lols
Or Aldridge to Lakers if bought out
@KnickerbockerAl I totally agree with you. Would you rather Aldridge or Horford?
Cavs should aim high at deadline – Perhaps package McGee w Cedi, Prince or Nance and get something worthwhile –
Future 2nds do little , another Allen like savvy deal for a youngster will be a pretty nice outcome for Cle coupled w Garland/Sexton developments . Arrows up here but theres plenty work still to be done
