The Knicks have waived Terrance Ferguson and Vincent Poirier after acquiring both players on trade deadline day, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times (Twitter link). ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported (via Twitter) that Poirier would be waived.
New York brought in the duo in a three-team trade last week, also acquiring the Sixers’ 2021 second-round pick, the Heat’s 2024 second-round pick (top-55 protected), and the draft rights to Emir Preldzic.
Poirier, 27, played 10 games with the Sixers this season before being moved. He spent the previous season with the Celtics and played 130 minutes in 22 games.
Ferguson, the No. 21 pick in 2017, spent the first three seasons of his career with the Thunder. Oklahoma City then traded him to Philadelphia in December of 2020. The 22-year-old swingman appeared in just 13 games for the Sixers this year.
Both players will clear waivers on Tuesday, assuming they go unclaimed.
Knicks should had signed Drummond… They want to “save the cap space” for free agency, to then strike out when it comes to signing superstars or star players, like every other year… SMH
what if he wanted to go chase a ring instead of going to a Knick team that’s not ready just yet… smh… can we please let this new regime running the Knicks do there thing before we talk about striking out on stars like the past.
Well said.
Winner!
im sure they would have if he wanted to
Both parties have to agree and Drummond wanted to join a super team in the Lakers
Nobody guna sign here in free agency
So basically they got nothing for Iggy.
Why all the love for Iggy?? Please someone tell me. The dude is a 12th man at best, if that.
I think that’s exactly why he gets so much love.
2 2nd round draft picks
Don’t worry. You can get “Iggy” back soon enough. The 76ers are going to cut that bum the minute they find a suitable big in the buyout market.
Terrance Ferguson needs to play in the G league because every since his rookie year he hasn’t been playing well
Ferguson would be a college senior right now with a chance to possibly be a first round pick this year. Maybe even higher than he was drafted, maybe not. But instead his pro career is practically over now. At least in the NBA. I don’t know that college would have made him better, but I know the route he took didn’t work out that well. At the very least it would have given him more time, and more importantly confidence, to become the best player he could be. But some people just aren’t patient.
well said bro, i think of Knox, if he stayed 1 more year maybe things are alittle different with him. who knows thou.
indeed
He’s like $8 million richer, though, and isn’t even 23, so there’s that. He’d still be a broke college student if he stayed. If he really wants to make it in the league, he can catch on with a team abroad and work hard.
Broke?? Very good student athletes are really never broke, but ok, why couldn’t he get that a year latter?? you could maybe even say he gets more then that. whatever it is what it is.
I debated putting ‘broke’ in quotes because yeah, they’re not broke. I just meant he wouldn’t have had the amount he’s already made.
But, he could have gotten injured in college or maybe just not been very good (he’s been pretty bad in the NBA) and hurt his draft stock. I can’t blame him for taking the money.
A lot of players commit to the draft as early as possible for the guaranteed payday, especially guys who come from nothing. An injury in college can end your pro career before it even starts. It’s an unfortunate reality, but maybe the G league paying kids straight out of high school can be a nice middle ground of getting paid, but maintaining draft eligibility.
He’s 5 years out. I believe he originally committed to Arizona, with two other 5 star G’s. TF bolted for Australia (not clear if he was eligible), while the other two enrolled and played with the program. They left early too (forget the time). Neither was drafted. I think each got some form of pre-NBA contract, but never made it past that (or haven’t yet).
Nobody knows what TF’s present would be if he had taken the college path, but if, as you say, the path he took didn’t work out that well, it at least worked out better (financially) than those taken by his would be classmates. If you could go back in time and advise the young TF coming out of HS, would you really advise him to go to college as a way of being either a better NBA draft prospect (when he does declare) or a better NBA player down the line? I wouldn’t.
FWIW, if his career is practically over at 23, it’s not because of a lack of confidence, or anything that can be principally traced to not playing college basketball.
I love seeing draft rights get thrown into deals. Preldzic was drafted 12 years ago and is almost 34. Looks like he’s been traded six times and had his rights sold once.
I’d love to see one of these old guys actually sign a deal one of these days and play in the league.
wasnt campazzo drafted a while ago and just showed up to denver this year? hes the only i can think of. altho hes not that old but still up there by nba standards
I can’t find any record of him being drafted, but yeah, he’s 30 and debuted this year. Pablo Prigioni (35 years old when he debuted) is another one.
Pablo that’s a blast from the past. I didn’t mind him As a back up PG for the short stint he had as a “rookie” with the Knicks.
Arvydas Sabonis was drafted by the blazers in ’86 and didn’t debut until 1995
Maybe Sergio Lull will sign with the Knicks one day. I remember Houston tried signing him for 10 straight years.
Ferguson to Detroit.
Yeah I see that coming too!
Thought Knicks would give Ferguson a shot. Seems like a D guy Thibs could develop. He’s got talent and still young. Guy could go over seas and make a nice living. I think he will be back. Gotta think they are bringing in a player so they open up a roster spot. Knicks want to make a playoff run. Have to get a center. Dedmond is out there. Pelle maybe.
You like everyone. He got opportunity, but no production. Of course he got his opportunity too soon for his own good, maybe blame Presti, but nobody seemed to complain at the time, and they still push at OKC. TF was terrible.
Seems like a lot of money to pay for such a late pick
