The Raptors remain “seriously” engaged with the Lakers, Heat, and Sixers in trade discussions involving point guard Kyle Lowry, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Miami and Philadelphia have long been mentioned as suitors for the veteran guard, but the Lakers are a more recent addition to the Lowry sweepstakes. Charania’s report comes on the heels of ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski suggesting on Wednesday that the Lakers are a team to watch on the Lowry front.
While the NBA’s two biggest national news-breakers have the Lakers in the mix for Lowry, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst expressed some skepticism today on First Take this morning, suggesting that the Lakers rumors may be a smokescreen to get the Heat and 76ers to improve their offers, as RealGM relays. Windhorst also said that, as of Wednesday, the Raptors hadn’t been all that impressed by the offers on the table for the six-time All-Star.
“They’re basically negotiating with only two teams, with Miami and Philadelphia,” Windhorst said, per RealGM. “From what I can glean from people I’ve talked to, neither one of them are putting the premium, premium package they can offer for Kyle Lowry and that’s frustrated the Raptors a little bit.”
Of course, while the Raptors may feel as if they’re being low-balled, that’s a matter of perspective. League sources who spoke to Jordan Schultz of ESPN (Twitter link) said Toronto’s asking prices for Lowry and Norman Powell are “huge.” Since those two Raptors vets are considered two of the top options on the trade market, the market may not really get moving until there’s resolution on one or both of them, Schultz explains.
Just think the 6ers trade makes too much sense not to be the one to happen
problem with Lakers is they have not much to offer. Will have to give up a couple of the best young players to make a deal and go all in for this year. So for the Lakers its all in for this year if they want a big name player.
Not only lack of trade assets, but the Lakers already have Shroder. They need a knock down shooter more than another PG. Woukda thought Frontier would be a good fit.
Fournier $17.2 million contract was what kept him from joining the Lakers. That is a lot of money to absorb into the cap.
All the teams mentioned in the Lowry sweepstakes, the consistent 2 teams always in the same sentence or paragraph is Sixers, Heat. He is going to one them, Philly is home, but Butler is his friend and Miami fits his play hard, high IQ, physical-style more in my opinion. Either, (depending on Embid’s health) is a favored Eastern team if he joins them.
What could the LAKERS give up that has any serious value. Stop helping an LBJ team. Why are teams so willing to help him win year after year. Lowry on the Clippers or Sixers would be great. I doubt the Heat wants anyone that old.
Nobody is going to help the Lakers. Its the media that is throwing every name at the Lakers in hopes to have something to write about. The media made a claim last week Curry was going to go to the Lakers. Everyone knows that is a pipe dream.
Haha LAD and LAL loaded this year. And Lakers are just well run top to bottom.
They gonna get Lowry if the really want to.
What can they trade for Lowry is the question. So who does the lakers trade for him?
Rockets asking price
76ers All 4
Thybulle
Maxey
2021 First
2023 First
Heat All 3
Herro
Duncan Robinson
Dragic
What r u talking about
Try to keep up. Rockets aren’t asking these teams for anything.
rockets have asked for huge deals to get players. rockets priced themselves out of the seller market unless they come down from their high price.
My gut feeling is he ends up in Philly and that’s coming from a Miami fan. My bet is that Miami is offering Dragic, Achiuwa, Robinson and a future first…
The real prize in the eyes of Toronto is Maxey , Thybulle or Herro… ultimately I think Philly and Miami refuse giving up Thybulle and Herro. I see e ultimate deal being Maxey, another young player. a future first or two and salary filler like Danny Green and Mike Scott.
Philly is what my nose says, but I think Miami is really close. This is GM-Front Office chess. Who will make the first move and what sequence of events will it cause? They want to not let a competitor adjust for the move. Gotta be Philly and Miami slugging it out over Lowry. Gordon might be C’s bound also. Would explain the very last minute wait, that is even more last minute than usual. They have probably known for a couple weeks what they are going to do. Lowry too.
As long as the Heat dont give up Duncan Robinson or Gordan Dragic, I’m cool. I’d only give up Robinson in a much larger trade that includes Anunoby and Powell. There are several interesting possible iterations of deals with the Heat that are relatively similar.
I still say Philly doesnt make too much sense. If anything, the Heat and Dallas make the most sense, if they move him. Personally, as much as I want him on the Heat, and would 1000% trade Herro, I hope he stays with Toronto the rest of his career. I didnt think they should have paid FVV, and now they’re in this position with Lowry and Powell
If I’m Miami, this is the time to be aggressive. You got a prime Jimmy, entering his prime Bam and the team is clearly in need of some backcourt punch. I’d try to get Lowry AND Powell. To do so, offer Olynyk, Dragic, Herro, Achiuwa, Nunn and a future first (2027).
Miami can then sign Aldridge, giving us a roster of:
C Bam, Silva, Haslem
PF Aldridge, Ariza, Harkless
SF Butler, Iggy, Okpala
SG Powell, Robinson, Strus
PG Lowry, Bradley
Rotation would be something like Ariza, Iggy, Robinson, Bradley off the bench (really solid defense and scoring combo of guys), with a starting lineup of Bam, Aldridge, Butler, Powell and Lowry.
Toronto gets a young center in Achiuwa, a young budding all star in Herro, young scoring threat in Nunn, and a future draft pick.
My iterations look a bit different, but I guess it’s not as doable now that they moved Harkless….
Heat get Lowry
Toronto gets Herro, Olynyk, Bradley, Harkless, 2025 1st round pick
Heat get Lowry, Stanley Johnson, Aaron Baynes, and 2023 Toronto 2nd round pick
Toronto gets Herro, Olynyk, Bradley, Harkless, Iguodala, Heat 2025 1st Round pick
Heat get Lowry, Anunoby, Stanley Johnson, 2023 Toronto 2nd round pick
Toronto gets Herro, Okpala, Iguodala, Olynyk, Bradley, Harkless, Heat 2025 1st round pick, Heat 2027 1st round pick, and 2022 Philly 2nd round pick
Heat get Lowry, Powell, Stanley Johnson
Toronto gets Herro, Kz Okpala, Olynyk, Bradley, Iguodala, Harkless, 2025 1st, 2022 Philly 2nd
Heat get Lowry, Anunoby, Powell, 2023 2nd, 2025 2nd
Toronto gets Duncan Robinson, Herro, Okpala, Olynyk, Iguodala, Bradley, Harkless, Silva, 2025 1st, 2027 1st
They grab Aldridge, maybe move Strus and/or Vincent in to regular contracts, and add other 2 ways, or sign a couple of guys, depending how they are under the hard cap. Maybe a Shaq Harrison…Aldridge comes off the bench in that scenario
