After mentioning the usual suspects – the Heat and Sixers – in his look at potential Kyle Lowry suitors during today’s Woj & Lowe Trade Deadline Special on ESPN, Adrian Wojnarowski offered up an interesting wild-card trade destination for the Raptors guard. According to Wojnarowski, the Lakers shouldn’t be ruled out as a possible suitor for Lowry.
While the idea of Lowry teaming up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in Los Angeles for a Lakers team looking to defend its title is a fascinating one, it will be tricky to make a deal work.
To match Lowry’s $30.5MM salary, the Lakers would almost certainly have to include two veteran rotation players from the trio of Dennis Schröder, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Montrezl Harrell. That lines up with a report from Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, who says (via Twitter) that the Lakers became open to discussing those three players in trades as of Monday night.
If the Raptors are moving Lowry though, it’s probably safe to assume it won’t be for win-now veterans like Schröder, Caldwell-Pope, and Harrell. At least one of Talen Horton-Tucker and the Lakers’ 2027 first-round pick would also presumably need to be included to get Toronto’s attention.
While a deal along those lines could technically work, it’s hard to find a combination that makes sense for both teams. As such, Lowry ending up with the Lakers is probably a long shot unless perhaps they can get a third team involved.
Los Angeles’ other team also reportedly has interest in Lowry, but matching the point guard’s cap number and offering up enough assets to pique Toronto’s interest would be a major challenge for the Clippers as well.
Haha this would be awesome true villain status
Yes and no yes because he a great player. No because he like 35 and cost too much. Wouldn’t be worth it giving up 3 players for one . Who would fill two of those roster spots?? Who would be the back up center unless they have high hopes Andre comes and gasol takes trez spot
2 of those 3, the article says.
Would you trade Schroder, KCP, and 2027 1st round pick for Lowry?
I think the Lakers won’t move a big like Harrell, unless Drummond signs and AD is back.
Giving up schroder and KCP to a third team and getting Lowry back is the Lakers realistic shot at making this trade work, IMO
Lakers would be insane to even offer something like this. Lowry does not move the needle in a way the Lakers could lose three key contributors plus future picks (assuming picks would be sent). Now if this is Beal or something, okay fine. But Lowry comes no where near replacing the production Lakers would lose.
I don’t believe it.
I like it if Lakers keep Montrez and Kuzma. Everyone else not named LeBron or AD can go.
Wouldn’t happen they would have to trade guys who can match Kyle 30 mill unless a 3rd team in the trade
THT, KCP, Schroder, contracts add up to $28-$29 million
Kuzma can go.. yes he’s improved defensively and rebounding..He’s still not great man defender and he’s 6’10 he needs to rebound. ingram destroyed him last night.. year 4 in league, he’s still inconsistent on offensive end..last 3 games when he jumped up as 1 or 2 option he’s disappeared.. 37 pts total pts on 14/38 shooting..he attacks the rim he’s hard to contain but he mostly just stands out at 3pt line..lebron really does hide these players weaknesses.
Pretty sure the Raps won’t take KCP, with 2 years left on his contract. But DS, Harrell and THT + 2027 1st would be a good return, especially if the Raps can redirect DS and Harrell to contenders for some more picks. The only long term asset the Lakers relinquish is the 2027 pick. I do think there will be stronger offers out there.
I like Lowry a lot but he’s a 34 year old guard on the decline.
Plus he’s a $30 mil, 1 year rental.
I don’t think anyone will offer a deal like yours. Not even the desperate Pelinka.
The player the lakers need to move on from is Kcp.. if you look at his stats, his 3pt pct is pretty good.. but If you look at his game to game he’ll have 4 1/5 shooting from 3 games and then a 6/7 game.. Thats 10/27 or 37%.. on the surface, you would think that’s good but going 4 games shooting poorly being masked by one good game.. especially since the shooting is all wide open 3’s.. plus his defense has been horrible.. constantly beaten on drives and allows the most uncontested 3’s on team.. also, he unfollowed lakers on Instagram so he probably knows he’s gone
Lebron needs more help!! KD should get bought out and join Lakers!!
That makes no sense. KD helped build the Nets current roster.
Can we cancel you already?
It was a joke that you surely didn’t get
Its not a joke its Lebron trolling
idk man I think the bucks need to buyout Giannis already, Lakers need him.
Well not as much help as Kd needs.. I mean he need draymond and klay and steph with gsw.. it has Westbrook, ibaka and a few years of harden in okc.. now he joined kyrie and recruited harden.. and pushed for griffin..the Lebron needs more help narrative is old.. Kd has pushed for superstar teammates on his last 2 teams..
Why would the Lakers want Kyle Lowry? He’s no better than Schroder at this point in his career. And not good enough to help this current group of bums compete until AD and LeBron are back. I trust Pelinka. He’s made great moves the last 3 years and this one would make no sense
Yea Im not buying it, only thing that makes sense is if they want to take Harrells option away, move Kcps money and are not sold on Dennis……. but at that point its almost like why would Toronto want that bag?
It would still cost THt one of the players who they are clearing the money for . Move wouldnt make them better 2021 , would be more of looking at 22 type of move imo and a major shakeup when things were just fine w everyone healthy
Lakers also want Beal,Towns and Westbrook too. They want all the players!
Lowry for Schroeder, Harrell, THT, Dudley, Mckinnie, 2027 1st, 2023 2nd could theoretically work, but the Lakers would still be up against the hardcap to add either another wing, or a big, even if they bring back Damian Jones. They could use their 2 way guys as depth at the 5, behind Gasol, Davis, and LeBron, but they havent played much. Cacock plays hard, so could be cool to see him get an extended shot, but I doubt they’d do that
Lakers should plan on getting Andre Drummond via buy out and instead of giving up everything for Lowry, go for Victor Oladipo.
KCP, Caruso and THT for Oladipo or something like that …
Opens up 2 extra roster spots for potential buy out or FA and leaves you with this ..
1. Schroder.
2. Oladipo. Mathews
3. LBJ. Kuzma. Dudley
4. AD. Morris. Harrell
5. Drummond. Gasol
Weak in back up guards but loaded down low and great depth
