As we relayed earlier today, Portland and Minnesota are among the teams interested in Aaron Gordon, but the Magic forward is receiving interest from several other clubs as well.
According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, the Rockets, Mavericks, Nuggets, and Warriors are all eyeing Gordon. Some lead members of the Pelicans‘ front office are high on Gordon too, per Fischer. And the Pistons have also inquired about him, league sources tell Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Haynes suggests that Gordon would be “open to a change of scenery.”
Gordon has been the subject of trade rumors for quite some time and the Magic’s current front office hasn’t made many major deals in recent years, so some people around the league are skeptical that Orlando will do anything big at next week’s deadline, per Fischer.
“You talk to them and it’s just like, ‘Well, you know, we’re open to this…’ It’s just like talking in circles,” an assistant general manager told Fischer. Another league source added: “They don’t pick up the phone and call.”
However, according to Fischer, the Magic have already seriously explored moving Gordon and are seeking a return of young players and draft picks. Prior to Gordon’s ankle sprain, the Magic and Timberwolves were making progress on a potential deal that would have sent the 25-year-old to Minnesota for a package that included Ricky Rubio and draft capital, sources told Bleacher Report.
Brooklyn also made an offer for Gordon in mid-January before acquiring James Harden, according to Fischer, though the Nets may not have been targeting the Magic forward for themselves. Fischer reports that Houston is especially interested in Gordon and asked teams during the Harden discussions to engage Orlando about the veteran forward. The Rockets may be taking a similar approach in their Victor Oladipo trade talks, Fischer adds.
Here’ more on the Magic:
- In addition to Gordon, the Magic are believed to be listening to inquiries on Terrence Ross, Evan Fournier, and Nikola Vucevic, though Vucevic is considered far less likely than the others to be moved. Sources tell Fischer that for Orlando to consider a Vucevic offer, it would need to include at least a starter-caliber player and multiple first-round picks. “It would have to be to a point where (a team) offers what someone hasn’t yet been willing to offer,” one Western Conference executive said.
- The Celtics are said to have interest in Vucevic, but their overtures haven’t piqued Orlando’s interest, according to Fischer, who says Boston may be focused on Spurs big man LaMarcus Aldridge for the time being.
- Some executives believe the Magic could get a late first-round pick for Ross or Fournier, but most believe that a package of multiple second-rounders is more realistic, writes Fischer. “If you know you can get better, I would give up all my seconds (for Fournier). Who cares?” one assistant GM said. “I think he’s a good sixth man, maybe a fifth starter. One night he might give you 20, the next night he’s giving you eight. But he definitely can put that thing in the basket, and you gotta guard him.”
- Here’s what one Eastern Conference exec had to say about the Magic and their trade candidates, per Fischer: “They should sell. They own their first-round pick. If you can get that pick into the top five, and you’re adding back Jonathan Isaac and Markelle Fultz next season, all of a sudden things could look very different.”
According to ESPN Jump today
Warriors available list for trade
Only 3 assets
Wiseman
Wolves pick
Kelly Oubre
Warriors news
Warriors are very aggressive now
Anyone can use Warriors as third team to get Collins
Not to mention the DPE of $9.2M they got for Klay.
GSW could be adding up to 4 very good veteran stars to Steph & Dray, which means they could be serious finals threats for THIS season. They might keep one of Wiseman or the pick though. If both are gone then a Harden-level elite type superstar is joining Steph and Dray. Everyone is about to be so mad…
According to Steve Kerr last month
Kelly Oubre defense is excellent
According to me
Kelly Oubre is top tier defender
Month of February
Kelly Oubre per game average
20.1 points
3 point field goal 43%
My words To all GMs
Please put something valuable on the table
Oubre had a terrible start (due to poor coaching staff in GSW and Kerr pretending every player he has is the same as KD), but he has turned it around and so has Wiggins. The problem is Kerr, he wants another superteam so he can do nothing as coach. Oubre and Wiggins are probably on the table, and both are quality rotation starters – do they have futures on GSW? Probably not. Wiseman and Wiggins for Beal and Bertans gets done no matter what the peanut gallery thinks…
Oubre said something completely different. But, leave it to Marty. He knows more about Oubre than Oubre does.
Wiseman isn’t enough for Beal straight up (besides salary being an issue). Wiggins has basically neutral value and Bertans is probably a neutral-to-negative value right now (essentially cancelling each other out). Warriors would have to give up multiple first rounders to even get a seat at the negotiating table. Not a single star player has been moved via trade the past couple of seasons without some collection of multiple first round picks and/or young players.
If Washington believes that it is inevitable that Beal will have to be traded, I would jump all over a trade that includes Wiseman. Washington should be so lucky. If Washington could get GSW to include a first round draft pick then that is even better.
Wiseman is 15 years asset
Wolves pick is 15 years asset
Oubre
Warriors should trade 3 assets for 1 player
Look for equal value
15 year asset?
It’s rare for players to stay with one team for one contract, much less two…three means player is franchise max guy.
Oubre is an unrestricted free agent in July.
Ngl I would start watching ESPN again if Sillivan was on The Jump.
Rachel Nichols still looks pretty good, probably better than Sillivan.
According to ESPN the warriors are trading for every player out there. What Bob Meyers said “Wiseman is not being trade”. Oubre is the most likely to be traded since the warriors will not be able to afford him next year
That’s ridiculous. They are not moving Wiseman, or the Wolves pick. Why would they want to do that? Why sacrifice the team’s future for a player who’ll demand to be traded the moment he gets here? Curry will go elsewhere.
Exactly. Ridiculous. The Warriors aren’t going to trade Wiseman. The potential of Wiseman is unlimited. The Warriors would be crazy to trade Wiseman now. What if Wiseman becomes a big time star?
Magic have been a playoff team the last 2 seasons, so it’s not surprising they were not sellers (or, considering they were a fringe playoff team, buyers).
This FO was all but committed to trading Vucevic and Gordon, and other holdovers, when they arrived. Then events (breakout seasons / playoff runs) likely changed their course. Vucevic is likely staying, but I would be surprised if Gordon, Fournier and Ross were not made available.
“Well, you know, [they] are open to… talking in circles.”
It’s a team of teasers and this year, tankers, but not next year when they will show people, tell you what, just ask Martybabble, posters will be sorry, and I will be proclaimed the proclaimer. Wait… wrong team, nevermind.
Mavs should make a move for Fournier and Gordon. Maybe mo bamba as well since he is in thr dog house
What is Dlo worth on the trade market nowadays? Will the TWolves need to include him to pull off a deal for Gordon?
I would to trade dlo. Also very curious to see what his market is.
You would trade DLo. But, why would a team want him? An injured, high priced player, that doesn’t play defense. What good is he.
Just fire ainge now.. the dudes talent assessment is terrible, outside of the top 5 picks…
His wait and see mentality has cost them Hayward and Irving an getting nothing in return (I know the huge tpe, but he won’t use it).
Every guy he wants isnt going to win a championship,.just tank and get a better tradable asset.
Danny Ainge has nailed plenty of picks. Yes Fab Melo and JJJ were bombs. AB KO were solid. Smart is a gem. Time Lord has played awesome. Langford showed he has d and show had Nesmith both O’s will come. PP was a Gray puck he was expected to go 40. Grant Williams will find his niche like Draymond. Semi was a good second rounder. Ainge has Moore and Nader too from the second round still on rosters.
Trade idea
Celtics get Fournier
Magic get a First and TPE
Fournier to the Knicks …….. YES YES
Warriors have Oubre’s bird rights and can match any offer. They also have an owner who will spend whatever it takes. I see Oubre as a better fit for Dubs than Wiggins. I could see Warriors packaging Wiggins and Wolves pick for an all star level player who makes less than Wiggins, so the traded player and the resigned Oubre would make around the same as current Oubre and Wiggins make this year. So next year luxury tax wouldn’t be to crazy compared to this year. Player I have in mind is Julius Randle, who will make around 19mil, but another team would have to get involved. No way Thibodeau takes Wiggins!
Won’t happen. Green is the starter at PF. Why would you want a guy making $19 million sitting on the bench.
Why would a team trade an all star level player who makes less than Wiggins FOR Wiggins (who is not an all star) and a draft pick which is always a crapshoot.
Wiseman IS not and has never been a TRADE asset. People need to stop saying that cause they sound like true idiots when they do.
My guess is that the W’s are open to trading Oubre. With a glut of guards next season , the only way they would sign Oubre for big bucks is if they could trade Wiggins and I do not see any team taking on his contract.
Your wording suggests Wiseman is not valuable in trade which is truly idiotic. He is a trade asset, who may nevq11111+qer get traded
Wiseman is the best center they have had since Robert Parrish. They don’t want to repeat that mistake.
GSW isn’t going to trade Wiseman. GSW I would think is smart enough to know that Wiseman could become what of the league’s top players. Talented athletic big man don’t fall a team’s way very often.
Given the Warriors history of Centers, why would you trade Wiseman.
I agree. I was taling about the wording in Kezar’s comment, which made it sound like Wiseman had no value, and that he knows Myers’ mind.
Y’all can stop telling me how good Wiseman is.
Why would the Knicks trade Randle, their best player? (Are the Mavs offering Luka?)
You know why. I can’t tell you why, bc other posters will think I agree with it, just by voicing it.
According to the sources of this writer, Terrence Ross can be had for a late 1st round pick or a package of second round picks. For a good team in contention, seems a steal to me. Terrence Ross is a great player IMO.
Yesterday March 14, Terrence Ross came off the bench and scored 31 points in 34 minutes. 31 of the Magic’s 97 points. IMO Ross always has been an excellent very underrated player. Ross is even under contract for two more seasons after this season for reasonable money. I’m in Chicago. The Bulls should look into what the possibilities are for acquiring Ross. Ross would undoubtedly be an upgrade compared to Garret, Satoransky, Valentine, Hutchinson, etc.
Garrett
I’ve said for a couple of years if Terrence Ross played every night against the Heat, he’d average at least 25
So, he is overrated, and overpaid. He is only valuable for 4 games a year. Why do they pay the guy?
Because it’s more than 4, and if he got motivated enough, it would be much more than 4. But, he will coast.
Typical it seems for a Magicer under the current Magic FO, he seems to live in showcase-land, but never gets traded.
Why is it necessary for the Magic to trade? The Magic will have back Vucevic, Ross, Gordon, plus Fultz and Isaac coming back from injuries. Plus Bamba, Bacon, Anthony, Okeke, MCW. A team could do a lot worse.
I agree with Luke Adams about what it would take to get Gordon. The Mavericks have the young players, Tyrell Terry, Josh Green, Tyler Bey & Nate Hinton but they lack draft picks because they have already traded most of their picks already & can not trade consecutive years. If the Magic were willing to take Green, Terry, Bey & possibly Hinton in addition to Brunson & Powell that might get it done. Then the Magic could trade Gordon & possibly another player or too to the Mavericks.
@Vince & @ kezar Mike…
Green could play center with Randle at PF and play PF when Wiseman comes in, and a future of Randle and Wiseman would be nice. Green minutes should start to decline in the regular season. Their would be more parts to the trade than Wiggins and Wovles pick, which would be the 4th or 5th pick in this year’s really good draft and be very valuable and not a crapshoot, but a franchise type player.
