The Clippers remain in the market for help at the point guard position, with Hornets veteran Terry Rozier among the players who has drawn “strong internal interest,” according to Chris Mannix of SI.com. Mannix adds that George Hill and Ricky Rubio are among the other possible trade candidates in play for the Clippers, who have limited draft assets to use as sweeteners.
The Magic, who are also seeking point guard help, have kicked the tires on Rubio lately as well, per Mannix. That lines up with a Monday report from Jake Fischer of SI.com, who said Orlando had discussed a trade with the Timberwolves that would involve Rubio and Aaron Gordon.
Magic head coach Steve Clifford, who coached Kemba Walker in Charlotte, remains a big fan of the Celtics point guard, but Walker is unlikely to be on the move by March 25, says Mannix.
Here’s more from Mannix’s latest round-up of trade-related rumors:
- Reports on Monday indicated that a trade is more likely than a buyout for LaMarcus Aldridge, and that the Celtics are focusing on the Spurs‘ big man. However, Mannix cites league sources who believe a buyout is the most likely outcome for Aldridge, and adds that Boston isn’t interested in trading for the veteran Spur.
- While the Thunder are open to listening to inquires on Al Horford, they’re happy with how he has performed this season and won’t be looking to just give him away, Mannix writes.
- Rival executives view the Heat as the favorites to land Rockets forward P.J. Tucker, per Mannix.
- Tom Thibodeau has urged the Knicks‘ front office to be active at the deadline, and the club may pursue upgrades, but so far New York has shown little appetite for moving any of its top young players or taking on long-term salary, Mannix reports.
- While Michael Porter Jr. is presumed to be off-limits, Gary Harris, Will Barton, and Bol Bol are among the Nuggets believed to be available as the team seeks a complementary piece for Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic, according to Mannix.
OKC Should demand a good amount for Horford. They have all the leverage.
Big shock seeing that Ainge does not want to trade for Aldridge and instead wants to go the cheapskate route and sign him if he gets bought out. I hope someone else get him.
Celtics dont need a big. If anything, they need a shooter at the 2/3 spots, especially since they refuse to use certain guys in favor of multi big lineups that make no sense
That Theis/Thompson lineup is awful. lol
Not as bad as an Aldridge/Thompson or Aldridge/Theis lineup would be.
Thompson and Theis would both be gone hopefully. Thompson, Theis and their first rounder for Aldridge.
That’s an awful trade for Celtics…give up 2 of your bigs for an Aldridge who’s been hurt and lousy all year…plus 1st rounder? My guess is no one is offering that to SA…otherwise LMA would be somewhere else already
Two trash bigs and a late first rounder. What does Boston even do with their first rounders? Stevens just glues them to the bench anyways. He’d rather have Teague embarrass himself out there than play Nehsmith.
I think they’d be smitten with some expiring’s and just 1 decent prospect back
They can use the future cap for more bad contract+prospect capital all over again next year
Iron monger, I think Ainge most likely has his sights set higher than Aldridge for the TPE…either a bigger difference maker or someone signed beyond this season
Aldridge is worse than Drummond. Drummond and him both will be buy outs.
They’re completely different players. Aldridge is a scorer and a great shooter. Drummond … isn’t. In fact you can’t even have him in the game at the end of the 4th because of his FT shooting.
PJ Tucker would have been great a few years ago…when he was in Phoenix, and barely playing, I always thought of him as a Miami Heat player. These last 2 or so years, not so sure, and not so sure he is much of an upgrade on what they already have
Knicks need shooting at the 2/3 positions
George Hill would be a strong fit for the Clippers, but not sure what they can move for him. They’re already wasting Kabengele, so maybe him, but OKC would need more than that, with how they’ve devalued him. I think they’re fine at the guard spot though. If anything, they could use another backup wing defender, after they lost Mcgruder in the offseason
I don’t about that one.. I’m pretty sure PJ Tucker was a valuable player for those Suns teams. He started a majority of games and played about 30 minutes a game. Dude is a dawg for a team that needs corner threes and some strong defense
I shouldnt have said barely playing. More like under-utilitzed/under-appreciated, more in his last couple of years there. I’m aware of what he brings, which is why I mentioned it, but he hasnt been the same player these last couple of years, especially this year. You could say its b/c of what team he is with, but his defense shouldnt diminish, and they have more defenders now than they previously did, so those numbers should be up. Right now, I’m not sure he is an upgrade over Harkless, assuming Harkless is utilized correctly, which he hasnt been for the most part
Yeah I see what you’re saying. He definitely has been the type of player that makes an impact but needs other high profile players so his role is more defined. I do think that he’ll bring improvement to any contender’s defense and could most likely fit in well with about any contender. Harkless has been struggling since he left Portland. Haven’t followed him much this year but it doesn’t seem like he’s impacted the Heat in a positive way much this season
You’re always saying more 2/3, or they should be utilized more. May not be wrong. I would like to see that sentiment tested. It would be hard to equalize all the things that could distort the results but there would be 30 instances to balance things.
For instance for each team, rank teams by where they get scoring from, then rank them by w-l, see what position comes out ahead. Or use PER or usage or both.
Clips are hard capped and only a few hundred thousand dollars below line. Practically, they can’t make any of these deals (even Hill) without dealing Lou W or Beverley, which wouldn’t make sense at this stage of the season for either themselves or (in all likelihood) their trade partner (if they’re a rebuilding team).
Rubio, Culver and a second round pick for Gordon and Ross.
Magic get PG help and go younger with Culver and a pick. TWolves go all in on talent. Russell Beasley Edwards Gordon Towns starting 5 with Ross a great 6th man off the bench
They may be discussing that trade for Gordon now, but Ross is too good to throw in.
You’d be throwing in Ross for Culver.
Wolves have a huge whole at SF and Ross would adding bench impact, shooting and athleticism to that spot
The magic already have fultz & anthony Why trade for another PG?
Because Fultz is recovering from a torn ACL
Bc Fultz is trash.
If the Celtics can unload Kemba for something of value, I’d do it. Gordon, Aminu, Bamba? Dump Aminu elsewhere. And cut or trade someone else.
That’s not gonna happen
Why would the Nuggets want to trade? The Nuggets are having a good season and have a roster with talented experienced veterans who have been playing together for a long time. Trading Barton, Harris and/or Bol Bol would been trading good rotation players to get good rotation players. Just a wash. Just leave well enough alone.
I dont see what the Clippers have to give –
Im sure Zubac might interest a couple teams but not much for matching purposes
Even if they could get Rozier for Zubac and Lou Will would it even be worth it at that point? I dont see how Clippers can make moves for the next couple years let alone this year
Don’t see how Clippers could get Rozier. But Rubio n Hill could get done, even with a third team. Rozier is interesting to me. Considering how well Ball has been his first yr. And having a younger and cheaper guard in Graham. Rozier could net Hornets a solid player in place of need. He’s having a solid yr so will bring back value. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
