Rockets wing David Nwaba is set to undergo wrist surgery and will miss a minimum of six weeks of game action, head coach Stephen Silas announced today (link via Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle).
Nwaba strained his wrist while dunking in a lopsided 133-84 loss to the Grizzlies this past Sunday.
The absence of Nwaba is yet another blow to the reeling Rockets, losers of a league-worst 12 games in a row. Nwaba will join starting center Christian Wood and reserve guard Dante Exum as the third Rockets player to be currently sidelined with a long-term injury.
In 28 games for the Rockets, Nwaba has proved a valuable role-playing contributor. The 28-year-old swingman, an athletic defender out of California Polytechnic State University, is averaging 9.4 PPG (a career high) and 3.7 RPG.
They barely have the league-minimum of 8 players available tonight, including both of their two-way players. Things will improve greatly once Wood comes back.
Kevin Porter Jr. might also join the rotation once the G-League season is over.
Are you ever going to accept that they are a bad basketball team that is heading for a top 5 pick? If anything you should be hoping that they hold wood out for a better pick. He’s only going to give them maybe, 5 more wins. And for a team that is playing for nothing, go for the highest percentage at a top pick.
As a fellow Rockets fan, I love the support and love for the team. But personally, I hope they get a top 4 pick. They NEED that selection. If you don’t have a legit superstar (or more) you have no shot.
I think Rockets need to do something. Gordon out, House, but am sure with the break do not want them to really have something especially if Gordon is traded. I love Nwaba and he will be missed. Will Wood have what he had when comes back. I am sure he wants to get back. Whether do something ahead of deadline or wait. It seems trying to play hard at times but shots not going in. It will be lucky 13 tonight and not pretty to come out of all star break with.
Trade Gordon, PJ, Oladipo and get ready for the draft. Rockets keep the pick if it’s top 4. Get younger and more picks. Time to get ready for next yr.
Losing Nwaba won’t help. He wasnt hitting 3s though.
It’s been a tough season for the rockets thus far. Hopefully Nwaba comes back harder, better, faster & stronger.
