Kentucky freshman Brandon Boston Jr. is declaring for the draft and will sign with an agent, Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report tweets. Boston made the announcement on his Instagram page.
Boston is regarded as a potential first-round selection. He’s currently ranked No. 34 on ESPN’s big board, with ESPN’s Jonathan Givony projecting Boston as a shot-maker and secondary creator at the NBA level. The 6’7” Boston possesses a nearly 7-foot wingspan, which could make him a defensive asset if he bulks up.
In his lone college season, Boston averaged 11.5 PPG, 4.5 RPG and 1.6 APG but shot just 35.5% overall and 30% on 100 3-point attempts. He started 23 of 25 games for the Wildcats, who finished the season with a 9-16 mark.
Boston scored a season-high 21 points against South Carolina in Kentucky’s last regular-season game but was held scoreless in 23 minutes by Mississippi State during the Southeast Conference tournament.
Yea everyone from UK is leaving I was hoping some would stay we might have a few back, but we need some good players next year
Likely it’ll be Jackson, Boston, and Clarke declaring. Any of the rest would be a surprise. Boston was just bad. Jackson was just a part time player. Clarke was hurt most of the year. So UK should be a lot better next year with the incoming freshman class and the returning guys.
shouldn’t go pro definitely needs a another season but I understand
Be funny if the Celtics draft him
Not a shooter, going to be a 2nd round pick imo. Keita Bates-Diop would be a decent draft comp.
Second rounder, yes but much better upside than Bates-Diop.
None of these Kentucky guys are pros
As a Kentucky fan…okay. Overrated, un athletic, not explosive at all, and not a good shooter.
Good riddance. If he didn’t go pro I was hoping he would transfer. I didn’t see ANY reason for him to be so hyped. He made poor decisions constantly. Sure he is very athletic, but this is not a track team. I’d much rather have a good basketball player over a good athlete any day.
Before the season began he was listed as a top 10 pick. Now it’s questionable if he gets selected in the first round. I’d go back and come out strong next year, unless he has some pressing issue that require him to come out after one year. He just needs to sharpen his skills to the competition.
Same thing happened to Kahlil Whitney. He was a top 10 recruit that got exposed once he stopped dominating high school competition. Same case with Boston, although Boston did seem to have a better attitude about the situation. I will give him that.
What concerns me about him and his future is he had a coach that has a proven track record and wasn’t able to take advantage of it. Not sure how that’s going to translate on draft night.
In fairness to Boston, and Clarke and Jackson for that matter, they were not the reason for Kentucky’s poor season. I blame Ashton Hagans and EJ Montgomery (and UCLA’s Johnny Juzang, but that’s a different story) for Kentucky’s poor season.
Hagans was projected no better than a late 2nd rounder and Montgomery was projected to be undrafted. These are not the type of players that should be leaving early. Hagans has already been released from his two way deal and Montgomery didn’t make Milwaukee out of training camp, so both of their pro careers are already in doubt. Whereas if they had stayed at UK, they would have been team leaders and probably would be playing right now with the chance of becoming better players and raising their draft stock as well. But at least they can go try to make a living in Bangladesh or Lebanon or wherever. It’s not a bad life, but it’s also one that they still could have had after college. But the world needs cautionary tales also. Now if only we could get people to pay attention to those cautionary tales.
I didn’t get it is he from Boston or is that his name
His name.
