As injured Rockets veterans continue to rejoin the roster, head coach Stephen Silas still intends to keep some rotation minutes open for the development of Houston’s youth movement, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
The most recent player to return to the Houston lineup is center Christian Wood, who rejoined the team on the floor last night after a 17-game absence due to a sprained ankle. Wing Danuel House Jr. also recently returned from his own injury absence, and veteran guards John Wall and Victor Oladipo are expected back Friday.
A pair of tantalizing 20-year-olds – Kevin Porter Jr. and Kenyon Martin Jr. – still figure to earn major minutes even with the older players back on the floor. “I will say I am working on it and I am attentive to the fact I want those young guys to play,” Silas said.
There’s more out of Houston:
- Following the deal that sent P.J. Tucker, Rodions Kurucs and a 2022 first-round draft pick (Milwaukee’s own) to the Bucks, Kelly Iko of The Athletic explains why he thinks both the Rockets and Milwaukee should be happy with the trade. In return, Houston received some promising draft assets, plus veteran reserve point guard D.J. Augustin and young power forward D.J. Wilson. Iko is intrigued by the lengthy Wilson’s upside and fit within a Silas system, Augustin’s veteran know-how, and the Rockets front office’s acquisition of two Bucks first-round picks in the deal.
- Rockets two-way player Anthony Lamb was named the G League’s Most Improved Player due to his stellar output for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, G League affiliate for the Rockets, according to an NBAGL press release.
- As we previously relayed, Rockets swingman David Nwaba initially opted to avoid surgery on his injured wrist to help a Rockets club riddled with player absences. He subsequently re-aggravated the injury, making surgery a possibility once again.

Rumors say Rockets want to trade Dipo to Warriors for that Wolves pick and a player
Ridiculous, Who comes up with these idiotic trades? Warriors aren’t gonna trade that pick for Olidipo (no reason to do it, even if he signed an extension tomorrow, we’re talking big bucks , AND I bet Jordan Poole will prove to be better anyway).
That’s a very risky bet. Poole may no longer be considered a bust, but it’s highly unlikely he will ever be as good as Oladipo.
ESPN jump
Perkins said Wiggins for Dipo
The salaries don’t match there, and since the Rockets will want to stay out of luxury tax territory you would have to add Dante Exum.
The Warriors would then give Exum a buy out since they’re loaded.
Kevin Porter Jr. is not related to the former NBA player Kevin Porter
You are correct sir. His full name is Bryan Kevin Porter Jr.
Kevin Porter Jr.’s father was shot and killed when the poor kid was five. So…yeah, glad that got edited out.
Porter, KM Jr, Nwaba are good young talent. Rockets should play them let them get experience. Rockets could luck out and keep their pick. Then with three picks in the draft, this draft. They could make a quick turnaround. It’s why I would move Gordon n Oladipo. Bet it all on the draft. This is the draft to do that for. Id be trying to get other young players that were high draft picks who could be available. Like a Bagley, Gordon, Obrue, Bamba, Langford. Might find gems.
How is Nwaba a young talent?
Dude is 28 & at his peak, he ain’t gettin’ that much better, even if it does he ain’t gettin’ younger any time soon, he is a vet by now!
With Brown, Wood, Augustin, Wilson even Tate and Patton doing summer league time, the Rockets are kind of the C List Bucks lol
Bucks would love to have Wood the way he plays now. He’s surely better than Lopez. But his ill discipline and the front office’s lack of patience was the problem.
It won’t hurt to have acquired Augustin for maturity help instead of keeping Tucker the malcontent. That will benefit Porter even more, and he might really need that.
And that draft boost will get more quality.
AI think Houston won… and another trade for the Bucks I cannot fully endorse. It’s almost a detriment to have as a goal, getting over the hump.
