The Heat are among the teams that have reached out to the Raptors about veteran guard Kyle Lowry, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Some of the players discussed in a possible deal include Goran Dragic, Kelly Olynyk and Kendrick Nunn, according to Scotto.
Lowry, who will turn 35 this month, continues to remain productive, averaging 18.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.5 rebounds through 31 games. He recently pledged his loyalty to the franchise, but didn’t offer a guarantee that he will re-sign with Toronto when he becomes a free agent this summer.
As a one-year Bird player, Dragic has veto power over any trade, Scotto notes. If Dragic agrees to a deal and a new team declines his $19.44MM option for next season, his Bird rights will be reduced to Non-Bird when he enters free agency. Olynyk is headed for unrestricted free agency, while Nunn will be a restricted free agent if he receives a $4.7MM qualifying offer.
Scotto offers a few more tidbits in advance of the March 25 trade deadline:
- The Heat have also talked to the Spurs about veteran big man LaMarcus Aldridge, who won’t play again until San Antonio can work out a deal. According to Scotto, Miami offered Avery Bradley, Maurice Harkless and Meyers Leonard to match salary and would be willing to include a minimum contract such as Chris Silva or KZ Okpala or possibly draft picks. The Spurs will have many suitors for Aldridge, and several league executives expect the Celtics to get involved with their $28.5MM trade exception, Scotto adds. Boston is about $19.9MM below the hard cap and would have to send at least $4.1MM in contracts to San Antonio in return.
- Rockets guard Victor Oladipo may be the top player available before the deadline, a few executives tell Scotto. The Knicks and Heat are among the teams that are reportedly interested. Scotto adds that Christian Wood is the only player the rebuilding Rockets might consider untouchable.
- Several teams have inquired about Timberwolves veterans Ed Davis, Ricky Rubio, Juan Hernangomez and Jake Layman. Minnesota would like to acquire a young forward such as the Hawks‘ John Collins or the Magic’s Aaron Gordon, Scotto notes, and has future first-rounders to offer starting in 2023.
I’m not high on the Knicks trading for Oladipo. His fg% is horrendous! Under 40% is unacceptable. PLEASE DO NOT TRADE FOR HIM MY KNICKS! Unless (chuckle) it involves Payton and a draft pick coming back to us which won’t happen. Maybe Rivers/Payton and a second rounder for Oladipo but again we need 3 and D guys and he is not it.
If I had a choice I would pass and wait for free agency.
Knicks just need to stay the course and don’t do anything crazy. They obviously don’t have the pieces for a difference maker like Beal, Booker, Lavine, Lillard, etc. Keep making good draft choices and adding solid complementary free agents.
You’re putting Lillard in there like he’s available
and rivers back to houston? probably not. lol
The Knicks won’t get Oladipo in free agency, he will only sign with a contender. Unless he gets traded over the next week or two, the Rockets will most likely work out a sign-and-trade after the season sending him to a team where Dipo wants to go, like Miami or someone with a winning attitude.
Is Sotto a fantasy GM trying to get rid of spare parts to get a better player?
The celtics should trade for Aldridge & the nuggets should trade for Oladipo.
Nugs are swimming in shooting guards. But I guess they could trade one of them as part of the same deal. I agree he’s a good fit.
Nuggets might be swimming in shooting guards if JamalM & MonteM are playing at the same time. Hmm… not bad. But Gary Harris & PJ Dozier at 2G doesn’t constitute a deep position. Indeed the 2/3 is so thin, even with Barton, that the FO must be planning for a trade to bolster it.
Oladipo would be a disappointing choice and might be un-signable for the next contract but would bring some gravitas to a team considered young.
Aldridge stats is league average
FG 46%
3FG 36%
13, 5, 2
Celtics can only spend $19.9 million due to Hard cap
Need to dump 4.1 million salary first
Oladipo is too expensive
You don’t overpay to get him and you don’t overpay him
Dipo is expensive but on an expiring contract. Those types of contracts are no big deal and are never “too rich” for a contending team. You’re only paying half of it by now anyway.
Expensive means
Future new contract salary and overpay to get him
I read that Rockets want a future First and expiring contracts
1 First is overpaid
Lowry is expensive because he wants 2 years $60 million
Teams have acquired overpaid Rubio and Juan,
I’d guess teams want to dump salary to Wolves
By copying Lakers and Clippers success,Wolves plan to trade away more future First round picks ?
Teams always want to dump salary anywhere. Copying LA teams’ success? Not coherent.
Celtics are not trading for Aldridge. Anyone who gives up an asset for a guy that will be bought out is a fool.
If they wait until he’s bought out there’s no guarantee they get him. In fact they probably won’t.
Agree. Is Aldridge even any good anymore? Have not been following Aldridge closely. Am not a believer in 35 year old players. Understand that there are a few exceptions.
They don’t want him long-term. They want a title and have already been passed up by the Nets in the EC. Trends need reversed. Aldredge has not won a title yet and presumably wants one and this is his chance and he quit the Spurs. Has enough in the tank?
If I am the Spurs, Bradley, Harkless, Leonard and KZ for Aldridge sounds like a good deal to me.
Doubt Miami gives up The Dragon
All 3 guys on subject have little trade value.
Lowry has little trade value because he wants new big contract money
Aldridge fits Heat n Celtics nicely. He’s a good fit for both teams. So it’s worth it for them to trade for him. Celtics should just get Horford. He’s signed for two more yrs with last yr half guaranteed. This is the time to bring him back. Celtics have been trying to replace him since. Stop the nonsense bring Al back. Trade away Thompson for a shooter (Ellington). Let’s go Danny grow some.
Danny must know that Aldridge will not take the celtics to any final but into luxuary tax
The Timberwolves…lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol!!!!
Micl Sotto provided a lot of info… if it’s true.
Olynyk was signed to be traded, a decent bet made by Riley that he would reach the level of the contract, given that he’s white and can mostly hold his own and shoot 3s. Hasn’t worked yet but might… a week or two to find out.
Already posted wondering what Popovich might think of Silva. Good complement to Lyles but can he get more diversified? Maybe Okpala looks like Rudy Gay? Good Aldredge destination, like Boston. Bradley will likely move again if they don’t move Nunn for Lowry. They should keep him… not sure Dragic has enough speed anymore to work his game.
