10:45pm: The Chriss deal is now official, per a tweet from the Warriors.
2:35pm: The Warriors will trade center Marquese Chriss to the Spurs, tweets Anthony Slater of The Athletic. Golden State will receive the rights to Cady Lalanne in return, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link).
San Antonio will also get cash in the deal, adds ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (via Twitter). The move will enable the Warriors to save some money on the luxury tax, rather than spending it for an injured player (Twitter link).
Chriss underwent surgery after breaking his right fibula in late December and is expected to miss the rest of the season. He is making $1.8MM this season on an expiring contract.
Lalanne, a 28-year-old center, was a second-round pick by the Spurs in 2015, but has never made it to the NBA. He is currently playing in South Korea.

No currently rostered players are coming back to the Warriors in the Wanamaker to Charlotte or Chriss to San Antonio deals, I’m told. No picks being exchanged either. Just cash, clearing two roster spots for the Warriors as buyout season approaches.
Buyout season!!!
Cady Lalanne? Sounds like an older showgirl in Vegas.
Lol!!
Lol
Jack’s daughter?
He’s been working out this whole time.
Cady who????
This is lowkey a great trade for the Spurs. They get a player at a position of need, potentially for next year that fits into their current roster. I was thinking they would make sense for Kenrich Williams when we heard about him yesterday, but this has a chance to be a really big get for them, if they keep him
He’s a free agent, Spurs won’t keep him.
Procedural move does not equal a future player for the team.
So the only benefit for the Spurs is a little bit of cash?
I wonder if the cash amount is equal to what Chriss will make the rest of the season?
You might be right on all those points.
Generally in this type of trade, the Spurs would get more than enough to cover Chriss’ remaining salary. It’s worth it for the Warriors because of the tax savings — both teams essentially save money.
Chriss is a FA.
Nice for Spurs. Chriss looked in better shape this yr. He was looking ok to me. Pops can work his magic imo. Means Warriors could go all in on BO market. Also could mean a bigger trade for Obrue is coming
He is not playing this season and then will be FA. Sounds like trade was simply for SA to grab some cash (likely enough to cover Chriss contract and then a little extra for making the trade that only helps Warriors).
I bet he still winds up on GSW next year. He wasn’t as effective in other stops.
Chriss won’t ever play for Spurs. All this so Spurs owner call pocket a small amount of cash if/when they end up using some of the cash to buyout the player. At least LaMarcus gave them back a little money in the buyout.
Lame trade deadline for the Spurs who were sitting on a number of expirings that now probably walk this summer (minus maybe Patty Mills) for nothing.
