Reports earlier this week stated that acquiring Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier from the Magic could cost the Celtics a package that includes Marcus Smart and two first-round picks. However, a source tells Mark Murphy of The Boston Herald (Twitter link) that Boston is currently offering a first-round pick and a young player (not Smart) for Gordon, and are trying not to include a second first-rounder in a potential deal.
Murphy’s report doesn’t mention Fournier, which makes sense — if the Celtics want both Gordon and Fournier, a higher-priced player like Smart would need to be included for salary-matching purposes, since only one of those players would fit into Boston’s $28.5MM traded player exception. But if the C’s are just targeting Gordon, salary-matching wouldn’t be necessary.
Here are a few more trade rumors from around the NBA:
- The Raptors are continuing to push for Tyler Herro‘s inclusion in any trade with the Heat involving Kyle Lowry, reports Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald (Twitter link). Meanwhile, Jason Dumas of KRON4 News says (via Twitter) that the Sixers view acquiring Lowry as a long shot.
- Several contending teams are in the mix for Cavaliers center JaVale McGee, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, who says there’s a “strong sense” that a deal will be made by Thursday’s deadline.
- Appearing today on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Mavericks president Donnie Nelson suggested that a big deadline splash is unlikely for his team, as Callie Caplan of The Dallas Morning News tweets. “Don’t get your hopes up,” Nelson said. “We like this young crew.” Head coach Rick Carlisle has also expressed skepticism that the Mavs will make any significant moves, writes Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News.
These trade negotiations seem like a big game of chicken.
At this point trade rumors are outnumbering actual trades by 50:1. Over/under on number of trades by deadline is 4.
We’ve never had fewer than eight trades on a deadline day in the decade since Hoops Rumors’ inception — I’m hammering the over.
Ya I think I guessed 11 on tradenba’s contest
Pistons will make 2 for sure so probably 6!
Ainge has another cheap offer
Grant Williams and a future First for Gordon
Future First has little value
gordon is the most overrated player..idk how he warrants smart or a first rounder
No one is likely to offer Orlando more than Houston has, so they should be considered the favorites to get Aaron to pair with Eric.
Boston and Miami look foolish for not getting Harden.
As a Heat fan, I actually agree. But I doubt we had what Houston desired in a deal.
Same here in regards to Boston. No way they would’ve included Brown or Tatum
S Curry, this season: 5.2 WS in 39 games
T Herro, career: 2.0 WS in 88 games
Tyler Herro is the most overrated player in the NBA.
Herro is 21 years old. Curry was a rookie at 21.
but,why are you comparing him to Curry? No one thinks he is going to have a career like Curry. He is a nice young player with some upside. No more, no less.
Dude you are obsessed with Tyler Herro…
Nah he like that Houston homer is just that, obsessed with the GSW. Just another homer.
Yeah, you just gotta hate homers!!!
Herro is definitely overrated, Nunn was better last yr & continues to be better this yr but national media prefers Herro. I wonder why smh
It’s because the last time the Heat had significant media coverage was when Herro was lighting it up and helping lead them to a finals appearance, while Nunn was sick and did nothing in the bubble.
That’s my guess, anyway. What were you suggesting?
Good post Lil D ……. couple more of those you might get yourself back in the top 3 !
I repeat
There are only 7 owners who are willing to pay $100 million luxury tax within two years
I have the list of 7 owners
The owners of 76ers and Celtics are not in my list, which means 76ers have to dump salary to get Lowry
Some big market owners are cheap
You didn’t repeat anything, you made up something and posted with no supporting information.
How much for the list? I will Venmo you 30,000 dollars. I need to see it.
Woah! Where did you get the list?
Sixers should hone in on Powell or Ball AND Markkanen. That would be a great deadline and probably only cost Maxey, filler and picks.
Luke, are teams allowed to replace 2-way players with the new rules that allow them to play in the playoffs and remove their game limits? I could see the Nets offering Reggie Perry for JaVale McGee since Cleveland will need a backup now, but would the Nets be able to put their 10-day contract player or one of their G-League players in the 2-way slot?
Yeah, there’s no deadline for signing players to two-way contracts this season. So teams can still make changes to those slots.
That’s good, because I think a deal like that could interest Cleveland. A future second round pick is a lottery ticket. The Nets got a good one in the last draft in Perry, but his path to the rotation with the Nets in the near future is blocked by Claxton. McGee would fit in Dinwiddie’s DPE.
Ok so I’ve never commented on any of these sites. But I’m about fed up with Boston’s conservatism. I simply don’t understand why we’re chasing guards/wings when we have needed an actual center since BEFORE KG!!! Screw Aaron Gordon, he’s overrated, better to go after Fournier! But better yet….grab Andre Drummond and his 18 points and 13/14 rebounds/game at 27 yrs old – OR – Even better, grab Vucevic and his 22 points and 8 rebounds (I think??) and 40% field goal % and 36-38% 3point %!! I know Rob Williams is going to be excellent…but let’s win now. I’m fed up with Danny wasting his moves on the likes of Tristan Thompson,Enes Kanter, Jeff Teague, etc…going all the way back to guys like Kris Humphries and even Jeff Green over and over again. Sure he nailed 2 3rd draft picks – Jayson and Jaylen – already superstars, and some other nice youngsters…but they’re all so young! And the fact that Marcus Smart is even mentioned in trade rumours is insulting and embarrassing – he’s the heart and soul and grit of the team. Period. Sure we grabbed Horford, but he was never a ‘top tier’ free agent, and Gordon was obviously frustrated about ‘something’???? (hush hush). It’s been a long time since Ray Allen and KG joined the fold, but even that was a bit late. 1 tital only. And I knew Kyrie was a baby well before we grabbed him…what a waste. I’VE HAD ENOUGH. Ohh and screw Harden – he could never be a Celtic – No defense > No titals, and that’s a shamrock fact. We need a big splash – missed Anthony Davis to our greatest rivals – grabbed Tristan instead of Whiteside or Clint Capella (why!!??) – missed Jimmy Butler, but again he’s way overrated and wouldn’t fit the soul of our team. I could go on and on and on….but now we’re about too miss V. Oladipo (now he would fit), Kyle Lowry (a definite upgrade to Kemba and only 26 yrs old I think but at 32 point/game!!), Drummond, Vucevic, etc… and please forget the 35 year old Lamarcus’ and Korvers of the world! And oh then we have talk of Harrison Barnes. I’m sorry, but Harrison Barnes just doesn’t have what it takes too push the needle. I’m obviously frustrated with Danny…and even Brad Stevens at this point. Rob Williams should not only be the starting center but should be eating up the majority of minutes there (with no offense to Daniel Theis, a very solid role player). And someone please tell Tatum NOT TO DRIBBLE THE BALL ALL THE WAY UP THE COURT – HE’S A TERRIBLE BALL HANDLER (…not too mention he carries the ball perfectly) – just pass it to Jaylen or Kemba or Marcus or one of the young point/wings. Ok apologies. I’ve vented enough. I simply pray we end up with a game changer tomorrow – Ideally Vucevic. Or Drummond. Or if going smaller Lowry. Or the Gordon/Fournier combo, i guess. But forget Gordon alone. And forget Harrison Barnes. But oh, how I fear…of waking up too news tomorrow that the Celtics have picked up the Aldridge/Korver 60 year combo which would get us nowhere…..Nowhere…..Again. Sorry y’all…I’m fed up. ~ Jay
As a Nets’ fan who cringed at the idea of the Harden trade after having PTSD from 2013 trade, I’m happy with it now. Harden does play defense and he has single-handedly kept the Nets on a roll while KD and Kyrie have been MIA. Once they’re back full-time and healthy, it’s hard to see any team outlasting them in a seven-game series.
The Celtics could still make a serious move. As long as they stay in the top ten in the East, they have the talent to go on a roll in the playoffs. I still believe the fortunes have finally turned after that 2013 trade and will take Marks over Ainge any day.
Yea that was absolutely cruel of Danny to do to you guys, admittedly, tho of course I’m extremely happy with Jaylen and Jayson. I will say tho, Kyrie will forever be a b***h, and yes the beard’s defense has improved…and I’ve always loved KD. He’s the leader over there, or will be, and he has old school Kobe style class, unlike Lebron. I am happy for you guys. But I fear the 3 of them together will have a bit of a hard time gelling…but damn I hope I’m wrong cause I need you guys to beat the Lakers…that’s if indeed you make it out of the east. I feel our best aquisition would be Vucevic at center, or Drummond not far behind. I just feel as if Danny is slipping as he ages..but obviously I’m just frustrated. Anyhow, I’m a native New Yorker but my father was born in Salem, MA so I grew up watching Bird/Magic battles and it stuck.
Anyhow, nice corresponding with you…please send some luck my way – even with one of my favored additions I doubt we’d have the firepower, depth, and experience to beat y’all ⚡⚡⚡
Dude just join the writing staff or fo a bkog. You made a comment longer than the actual article.
I apologize for hurting your feelings. You must be a Lebron fan.
hey I admitted this was my first post and I was venting. Anyhow, what’s your take on all this?
Celtics are going to pull the same crap as the past few years. They’ll be in on a bunch of players but Danny won’t pull the trigger. While we love Danny in Boston, it’s time for him to go.
BTW – Kyle Lowry is 35 years old and it’s “Title” not Tital.
Green, Scott, Maxey, Porier, Ferguson 4 1sts 4 2nds for Bradley Beal. Get it done. Lowry is 35. Dipo can’t shoot. Brogdon probably ain’t available. Fournier if they only trade for one guy. Or I gotta get 2 of 3 from Powell, Ball, Markkanen.
