Multiple playoff contenders have interest in Thunder veterans George Hill and Trevor Ariza, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic. According to Charania, the Clippers are among the teams eyeing Hill.
Neither Hill nor Ariza is active right now for the Thunder. Hill hasn’t played since January 24 due to a right thumb injury, while Ariza has been away from the team all season, having been acquired in an offseason trade as a salary throw-in. Hill shouldn’t be out too much longer though, and there’s no indication that Ariza isn’t healthy.
The Thunder have been focusing on developing their young players, so Hill and Ariza are expendable. However, Charania notes that the team would be fine with retaining Hill, who is under contract for 2021/22 at a reasonable price ($10MM).
Here are a few more trade-related notes and rumors from Charania:
- The Rockets continue to discuss possible P.J. Tucker trades with teams like the Bucks, Heat, and Lakers, but the Nets are no longer believed to be actively involved, writes Charania. A Brooklyn deal for Tucker likely would’ve involved injured guard Spencer Dinwiddie.
- The Hawks have made trade inquiries in recent weeks about wing players, per Charania. The team is currently missing two of its top young forwards, De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish, due to injuries.
- Hawks big man John Collins is among the potential trade targets being eyed by the Celtics, but Atlanta’s asking price is high, according to Charania, who says the team is seeking a high first-round pick and/or a talented young player. Collins is eligible for restricted free agency this summer.
- The Pistons are after a second-round pick in exchange for veteran shooting guard Wayne Ellington, says Charania. Ellington is having a nice year in Detroit, with 10.6 PPG and a .422 3PT%.
- Heat guard Avery Bradley and Grizzlies forward Gorgui Dieng are receiving interest from several teams, sources tell The Athletic.
So does talented young player mean Tatum/ Brown or does it mean Langford? Sort of a broad statement
I think it’s assumed that Tatum/Brown are past the “young talented player” stage. Those are young allstars/superstars.
My guess is R williams or Prichard and a high first which is fair since he is a RFA I think and is young. The Celtics I guess just aren’t going to get anyone.
I would reluctantly give up Prichard but not R. Williams I would package prich G. Williams a 1st and the right to swap 1st rounders 2x really any of their young guys except J &J and RW
They should see if the Wiz would take Brown, RW and a player for Beal im sure some first would need to be add also (from the C’s)
According to rumor, Wolves offer Edwards
Celtics need to find a centerpiece, a single player who is equal to Collins value
Maybe bucks trade for George Hill again
They can’t trade for him this season.
Bucks need front court depth. They lost RoLo and Ersan.
Milwaukee needs Avery Bradley while the Lakers are interested in Lopez and Craig Milwaukee need to swing a deal grabbing Tucker and Harrell
Celtics should trade for Ellington
Celtics don’t have assets for Collins
Via third team
Third team to offer a top 7 pick or productive young player
In other words, value must exceed Herro and Achiuwa combined
Prichard and Williams?
….. you think the Heat are trading Herro and Achiuwa for John Collins? Shoot… how many picks you think Riley would have to include for the honor of trading his two most promising youngsters for a pending, RFA who’s been disappointing?
Herro isn’t untouchable, but he’s not getting traded.
Ainge likely won’t do anything.
Collins is actually a good target for the Celts if they’re willing to match a max offer sheet. They wouldn’t have the cap space to give him such an offer sheet this summer themselves. He’s one of the few impact players that can (maybe) be had for their secondary players and picks. Or not. Atlanta’s GM is determined not to give him away (or be seen as giving him away). Ainge isn’t the best deal maker in this situation, but this could be worth deviating from his typical MO.
Collins makes more sense in Miami. Ainge lacks guts. I thought the celtics had enough help??
He’d fit there too. But they don’t have picks to trade. He would also eliminate the Heat’s cap space this summer (Boston wouldn’t have it anyway). But Riley is the deal maker than Ainge isn’t.
Did you really say that the guy who’s nicknamed Trader Danny isn’t a deal maker? Lol…
I don’t know who gave that nickname or much care. You can make trades that come before you without being a deal maker. Clearly, you don’t (and won’t) understand.
Save that assessment. CF78 was ironic not dumb. *Joke* say ha.
I’m sure it is tiring to know more truth than an un-nameable nickname-coiner (whoever created “Trader Danny”).
However the Boston problem is more likely too much appeasement to teen Tatum in the hope of being team Tatum. Ainge has been building a team around him, which is a typical managerial strategy, acceptable to people who like to judge such things. But not sure Tatum is up to it, or if the strategy even works often enough to justify its use.
It reminds me of Cavs strategy when Lebron was young and the FO kept looking for either good role models for LJ, or players his own age who could later be said to be guys he came up with, guys he ran with. Didn’t work. What did work was him being a 15-year veteran pulling some strings… not that all those pulls were helpful… long story.
I’m not sure if Nets are among the teams interested in Avery Bradley, but his contract would fit in Spencer Dinwiddie’s DPE.
If the Celtics seriously want John Collins and view him as a dude they’d re-up at any cost (ie matching a max). Then they should be willing to part with Jalyen Brown. But, they should get a pick back from Atlanta. Brown is under contract LT, Collins is technically a rental, and Brown is an All Star. Why would I do this trade? Kemba, Smart, Tatum, Collins, Center. More balanced team. Smart needs to be in the lineup for the team to succeed anyway.
Brown is already better than Collins, and is signed to a long term, below market contact… WHY would the Celtics make that deal? That team wouldn’t be anymore balanced. They need a rotation wing a lot more than another big. If anything, a Collins trade involving Brown would make them less balanced.
Celtics have no Bigs.
I have the list of 7 owners who are willing to pay at least $100 million luxury tax within two seasons
Celtics and 76ers owners are not in my list
It would be awesome to witness the pairing of JC & KAT, it would be explosive… BOOM!!!
Wolves would have 4 players who can shoot 40% from the three
Towns
Collins
Beasley
Russell
Then trade only one more future First for a 5th 3 pt shooter
Unstoppable
why a future first when you can get ellington for a second rounder.
Explosively mediocre. They’d still lose 50 games a season. KAT is a loser.
Collins or Markkanen. Thunder should send draft picks for one and sign them to a long term deal to pair with SGA.
Not all formats showing HR show the poster pictures. For those that do… listen to the impatient cat. Collins + ShaiGA on OKC would work. Actually they both seem like they could fit in anywhere.
How you know Lauri wants to play for okc he made a comment of loving to team with Giannis
Sixers should get Ellington. They have been eyeing him. PJ would nice for Bucks. Definitely should go for him. Ellington is worth 2nd rd pick to a contender.
Sixers, Bucks, Celtics, Nuggets, he can help.
Pj Tucker isn’t a good fit for Milwaukee Avery Bradley is
you actually mention the twolves and unstoppable in the same breath—what a joke
