The Pelicans are hoping to move off some of their expensive, longer-term contracts, according to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, who points to Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams as two players who fit that bill. Since neither Bledsoe nor Adams looks like a positive trade asset at this point, a more appealing young player like Lonzo Ball could “serve as a reward” for a trade partner who is open to absorbing one of those contracts, Vardon writes.
Reports from Ian Begley of SNY.tv and Mike Mazzeo (Twitter link) also suggest that the Pelicans are looking to dump some long-term salary. Begley hears from sources that New Orleans has spoken to multiple teams – including the Knicks – about attaching a first-round pick to Bledsoe’s contract in potential trades. It’s not clear what sort of return the Pels are seeking in exchange for Bledsoe and a first-rounder.
Meanwhile, Mazzeo hears that the Knicks and Pelicans have discussed the possibility of a trade that includes both Ball and Bledsoe, but that New York would want to find a third team to take on Bledsoe’s contract in that scenario.
Here are a few more of the latest trade rumors from around the NBA:
- Although at least one “prominent voice” within the Knicks‘ organization is in favor of acquiring Andre Drummond from the Cavaliers, the majority of the front office doesn’t view the big man as a fit, according to Begley.
- The Pacers have held numerous trade discussions this week about Myles Turner, Aaron Holiday, and Doug McDermott, league sources tell Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report (Twitter link). A previous report stated that Indiana would have to be blown away to move Turner this week, but Holiday and McDermott are more viable trade candidates.
- Addressing the Holiday situation, J. Michael of The Indianapolis Star cites league sources who say that many people around the Pacers guard are hoping he’s dealt this week or during the offseason. Playing time is a top priority for Holiday, and he has seen his minutes dip to 18.0 per game under Nate Bjorkgren this season (after averaging 24.5 MPG a year ago). According to Michael, the Knicks and Suns have had interest in Holiday in the past, but it’s not clear if he’s on either team’s radar now.
- If LaMarcus Aldridge is bought out rather than traded, the Suns would be in the mix, though the Heat and Nets would probably be ahead of Phoenix in the pecking order, tweets Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News.
So basically the Knicks want the prize out of the box, but wants someone else to buy the cereal. That’s not exactly how it works.
For those that don’t know, cereal used to come with prizes in every box. Yes, I know I am old.
It still does; the prize is called type 2 diabetes. Congratulations. You just ate 50 grams of sugar in a single serving.
Sickening…
Thank you Debbie Downer.
Jees guys lil d has it all figured out, it’s the cereal ruining this country, lol what a dork
Give me 2 bowls then
50 bucks the “prominent voice” is a guy whose name rhymes with Rom Fibadeau
I had a trade idea a few months ago
Knicks trade #8 pick to Wolves for #1 draft pick straight up
So you’re saying Rom is into it?
I think Rom might like a little Drummond yup
Adams and his contract + Ball for Carter Jr. and Porter (expiring contract) makes a lot of sense.
Ball has the best value of all
Bulls get Ball, Adams
Pelicans get Carter, White and Porter
Sub Lauri for WCJ and throw in a couple 2nds and I think it’s to good of a deal for NO to pass up.
Pelicans don’t overpay Lauri
Lauri has little value for Pelicans
Carter and Lauri go to third team
How is that an overpay? They get a RFA and an expiring contract and a few 2’s. You and wallywood need to stop smoking whatever you guys got in your pipe.
I think it is hilarious that WallyWood is basically living in your head rent free. You almost never get through a comment without bringing him up, even when he has nothing to do with the conversation. Get over it man.
Because between the both of them I can’t stand it. And talk about living rent free. You can’t help yourself when I post something about someone else on here. And I have zero problem with you. Get over my issues with non intelligent comments.
Just because I like looking at and talking about the gorilla at the zoo doesn’t mean I have issues with the gorilla at the zoo. Just an observation. Take it however you want it.
Well I am 6’3, so touché on that comment. Lol
Great trade for the Bulls but why would the Pelicans do this? I’ve been watching Carter for 3 years. He’s not that good.
Carter is talented guy, but Bulls didn’t have a coach, so I wouldn’t be so hard on him.
As a bulls fan, carter sucks, however the bulls aren’t giving up Coby white carter and picks to take on a negative trade asset in adams and ball, that doesn’t make sense, Coby white for ball straight up is the only trade between them
Agreed. Carter will never be in the same class as centers such as Jokic, Vucevic, Embiid. Doesn’t matter who coaches Carter or how long he is in the league. Carter is undersized for a center. This is not a secret. It was obvious from the start. Not Carter’s fault. The Pels don’t want Carter.
Aholiday for malik monk or terrence mann. Dougie mcbuckets for monk or bridges of the hornet’s. Hey I can dream sabinos to the king’s for barnes and bagley or holmes or buddy.
Pacers just dont feature Turner to the fullest …they should be happy getting (face value) rather than an overpay –
Somethings off in Indy, I know they don’t like to trade but they have the movable parts to probably better their team mixing it up the next 24 hrs if for no better reason than “the old way wasn’t working”
. I don’t believe the Brog hype but there’s some other valuables that can be flipped
They’re kidding about Turner. Trying to move him for 2 years. He and DS are playing well together now (on the top line numbers anyway), so I’m sure the buy low window has closed a bit. Still, here needing to be “blown away” likely means they’re no longer looking to dump his contract.
They def have one of the most interesting rosters in the East, partially bc we haven’t seen it at full strength yet. A Brogdon-Lavert-Warren-Sabonis-Turner team seems like it could be at least pesky if not dark horse-ish
It does seem like Turner’s value is oddly low tho. Also, if they do end up trading them are they rolling with Sabonis at center full-time? Not sure how that looks defensively for them
Yea DXC thats why I say market value –
I agree I like the pieces on the Pacers, and they haven’t exactly got to ALL play together yet so its hard to get a good read, it just seems like Turner might be able to net them something that would help them more than himself for the InD Pacers. I dont watch them often but when I do it just seems Turner is an afterthought for them and when he actually gets too touch the ball he overcompensates bc of lack of prior touches
“Something is off in Indy”
Pritchard is trying to make the 3 guards + 2 centers work. Gotta give it time shhh
I agree if harrison barnes type of player is on the market. Pacers should go after him. I would move sabonus keep myles. Domtas is at his highest value right now in lines of kevin love in his timberwolves days. I send sabonis to the kings for barnes and buddy. Jmicheals said barnes is guy that should looking at wing that can rebound and play def with myles in the middlel.
I would be shocked if Holiday were still on the Knicks’ radar at this point. Holiday’s consensus value has changed a lot in the past year (gone from a guy viewed as a future 30 mpg PG to a quality backup), as has the Knicks’ PG situation (no longer any need for backups of any quality).
Taking on Bledsoe’s deal is worth more than the typical lottery protected 1st. It doesn’t appear that the Knicks are really hot for that undertaking in any event. Committing to Ball (via trade) ahead of the summer, for any real price, would be a mistake.
Knicks should make a trade for Brogdon or Ball
And Norman Powell
Steven Adams and Lonzo Ball for Otto Porter and Lauri Markeneen.
Pelicans get out of the long term money of Adams and instead have contract talks with Markeneen (possibly sign and trade if to expensive). Porter and Markeneen give the team some length and shooting. Markeneen can play small ball 5, Porter plus back up forward for either spot.
Bulls get Ball and Adams which makes them better defensively. Ball would fit well with White and LaVine in the backcourt. Adams moves to starting centre and Carter Jr moves into PF which is where he wants to play. Patrick Williams get more minutes.
Another idea could be.
Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart and Steven Adams for Kyle Lowry and Aaron Baynes.
Pelicans get a solid veteran lead guard that elevates Ingram and Zion, and helps be a mentor to Kira Lewis. They get Baynes a cheap centre replacement that can stretch the floor, creating more open lanes for Ingram and Zion.
In return the Raptors get Lonzo Ball, who’s young and long and good defensively and can help make plays for others. Josh Hart, a nice depth wing than also defends well but can do abit of everything and Steven Adams a solid team first defensive minded centre.
Raptors need to look ahead to the future, this season they really struggled and Lowry is leaving, that leaves you with FVV, Siakim and Angunoby. Lonzo and Hart help you go younger and complement FVV, then Adams helps fill the void at centre. Adams deal is expensive for now but next season he goes down 10mil in salary which opens up room to resign Ball
So your answer to getting out of the long term Adams deal is to trade for a younger, slightly worse version of him and then sign that younger, slightly worse version to the same kind of expensive long term deal?
Your slightly worse version? Who are you referring too? Markeneen offers a completely different skill set. Adams is a poor mans Gobert and Markeneen is a poor mans Porzingis.
You’d trade away 40mil in salary (Adams plus Ball) for Otto who is on an expiring deal and Markeneen, who you likely resign for maybe 17mil. Saving yourself 23mil, and having a younger player with a completely different skill set that opens the floor for your two best players. Adams clogs the paint and set screens which draws players together. Markeneen would sit in the corner like Brook Lopez does for Giannis to attack the paint.
And if your referring to Baynes, there’s a huge difference between 30 mil and 7.5mil and again Baynes is a shooter who opens the paint up for Zion and Ingram.
I agree with your analysis. Does NO front office? Bulls would do that deal.
He meant the gorilla in the zoo. The gorilla in Phoenix can get up but travels a lot, an issue.
Holiday for terrence mann or mcbuckets to a contender for late 1st round pick. Hey tj mconnell would be perfect for sixers or clippers or even the jazz. Anyone see stats he has puts up on the pacers second unit recently. Mvp of pacers right now imom
Maybe Mcconnell factors in the Brogdon issue. Mcconnell is good enough to make the team good, what else is there? A dunking exhibition?
Bucks need to land Holiday and Rivers
Mcdermott was the guy bucks were on last year. He has a expiring contract. He would stretch the
Flirt with his slaves from the top.
Lonzo and Adams to the Celtics. Celtics need a center if they face the 76ers in the playoffs and a true PG would help Brown and Tatum if Kemba continues to struggle.
Adams aunt doing anything against Embiid. He’s strong but Embiid has a three point stroke, handles and a great low post game. Embiid would drop 40 on him per game in a series.
Adams would hardly be an upgrade over Thompson, Thies and Rob Williams who they currently have
Adams is what GSW need but his high pay makes it hard to get a fair trade. Wiggins, Oubre, and Wolves #1 for Adams and Ball. Gives NO some good youth. Oubre can see if he fits the team.
Ball is a free agent. The Wolves pick is valuable. You create a whole at SF.
MIN’s pick would be at it’s most valuable if they were fightin’ for the playoffs… as it is dwellin’ at the bottom of the league, can’t see much value in it, seems just a gamblers value, I wouldn’t value it much, if at all!
Great trade
With the help of Knicks
Knicks get Looney, Oubre and Lakers First via Pelicans
Pelicans get Wolves pick, Wiggins, Payton and Rivers
Warriors get Adams and Ball
Warriors save $115 million tax in a single trade
I think GSW is at its best with the old school motion offence that they made legendary. Adams kills all that
They can do it cheaper, or do it better than Adams
Pelicans end up with Ingram Oubre Zion Wiggins ?
And is Wiseman backing up Adams or vice versa?
Didn’t New Orleans JUST extend Adams? How many picks are they going to have to attach to get off him and Bledsoe
Attaching Ball isn’t much better either, kid finally looks like a real player. I know they got the motherload of picks for Jrue but Zion looks like a superstar right now. They could really use a few more guys who can actually play around him rn.
Bledsoe is so terrible they would have to throw a 1st along with Ball to get rid of him. I might trade Drummond for Ball and Bledsoe, then flip Ball for a 1st. Good way to squeak another asset out of Drummond. Only have to live with Bledsoe for a year, or waive him.
As a Pelicans fans, i still dont understand why we trade for Adams… I understand if he is used for 1 year then letting him go for huge amount of cap space, but! They give him unnecessary extention. All hope is lost
No to Ball ….. no no. No to Bledsoe …… no no no
Rather have Dinwiddie all day all night all the time. Dinwiddie Dinwiddie Dinwiddie
Knicks can just sign any PG next yr as FA. We got 5 PGs on roster now. We don’t have to get any now. I would trade for Drummond since it won’t take much. Then we can move Noel. Drummond guarantees playoffs and with Thibs Magic. We can trade him next yr. I like Fournier or Powell both are scorers shooters that fit well with RJ. Powell has been getting plenty of noise lately mmmmmmmmm. Knicks need to build a core. Next yr we will go for it. Rebuild Rebuild Rebuild
Bledsoe + a 1st + Dinwiddie to Cavs
Drummond to Pels
Redick to Nets
Pels BO Drummond.
Dinwiddie is worth more than expiring Redick lol. He’s the best PG available better than Ball or Rozier.
He’s an expiring contract too, I don’t think he opts in
I will take Zo any day of the week & twice on Sundays ahead of Dimwiddie!… I mean it’s a no brainer, that is even without factoring Dimwiddie’s injury!
