The Pacers may be the team to watch in the competition for Raptors shooting guard Norman Powell, no matter what happens by Thursday’s trade deadline, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post. League sources tell Berman that Indiana is willing to outbid the field for Powell in free agency, even if it means overpaying.
The Knicks also have interest in Powell, Berman adds, but just as with Rockets guard Victor Oladipo, they’re reluctant to part with first-round picks and would want some assurance that he would re-sign before making a move.
New York’s front office believes the team has exceeded expectations this season and is confident that it can at least wind up in a play-in game with the current roster. Berman cites a feeling around the league that the Knicks will wait until the offseason for any major moves.
There’s more on the trade front:
- The Knicks will have interest in signing Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball this summer, Berman adds in the same story. New Orleans is considering whether to trade Ball now instead of possibly losing him in free agency. If New York reaches a buyout with Austin Rivers, J.J. Redick will be a candidate to take his place on the roster, assuming that he’s bought out as well, but the Knicks would face competition from the Nets and other teams for Redick.
- A source tells Berman that the Pacers haven’t put Malcolm Brogdon or Myles Turner on the trade market. A report Tuesday said Indiana was listening to offers for Brogdon.
- The Nets are interested in Cavaliers centers Andre Drummond and JaVale McGee, according to Ian Begley of SNY.tv, but it’s not clear if Brooklyn will wait for a buyout or try to make a trade.
- The Timberwolves are among the teams still pursuing Magic forward Aaron Gordon, tweets Marc Stein of The New York Times. Stein confirms a report that Minnesota and Orlando had serious discussions about Gordon in January before he injured his ankle.
At this rate, I don’t think there are going to be any trades this year. Just talk. It’s less than 24 hours from the deadline and the biggest deal so far this week has been the Clippers paying the Kings to take a player.
It’s fun to talk trade, but at some point something needs to happen.
I agree, so many teams content and don’t mind losing.
Execs are reminded, We want to draft high next year; and players are reminded, What if I go the new grocery and there’s covid there.
This is why a trade between Houston and Orlando seems inevitable.
True but I think tomorrow will be fun for what its worth…we might even get 1 later tonight
Should be a fun today tomorrow, a small xmas for adults, I think we will see some pretty interesting things go down ( 3 even 4 team trades )
Toronto seems ready for Biz and I think Philly adds a semi big piece tomorrow somehow….Gsw’s plight is interesting as well
Powell,McCaw, Stanley for Brogdan.
lol
Whoever is out tonight’s game for no reason will be traded?
Apparently someone connected to the Pacers got stuck talking to Berman.
Redick will be the league’s most interesting buyout FA. He lives in Brooklyn, with a wife and young children, within walking distance of Barclay’s. Not sure which way that cuts in terms of where he’d like to be over the next few months, but it can’t be irrelevant.
Aaron Gordon is mad he’s on the magic cause they lose too much he would be furious if he gets traded to an even worse team and into way worse weather too lol
Houston does have way worse weather than Orlando, but the Rockets aren’t a worse team. They will be far better next season than the Magic.
Why would the Pacers trade Brogdan?
He’s in the peak of his career averaging 21.5/5/6, he’s a leader, he’s good defensively, can play either guard spot, shoots the ball really well, doesn’t have a huge ego and isnt a distraction, and he’s signed long term on a nice contract.
Doesn’t make any sense
They gotta talk about something and every nba gm seems to think their respective squad is fine, I want the bulls to upgrade the front court so badly but it’s exhausting only reading rumors with no action anywhere in the league, teams are overvaluing their players and undervaluing others, there’s easy to see trades but everyone wants 10 first rounders for their guys playing 8 minutes a night
Ask them. According to reports… Levert is healthy and has a higher upside than Brogdan. Pacers are making Malcolm Brogdan available as they don’t see him as a piece to push them further. Pacers as good as they are can never get over the hump, execs believe Levert can help change that. Turner may be dealt as well.
Brogdon plays the ping and LeVert plays SG so I don’t see how your comment means anything at all. They traded Oladipo for LeVert and correct me if I’m wrong but I think Brogdon and Oladipo played together and did alright.
I agree he doesn’t take them over the hump but in all seriousness they aren’t getting over that jump unless they get some elite talent, which they won’t get in FA and aren’t likely to get in the draft. The only hope they have is PG returning can’t see it or Indiana born players returning home and they missed out on Gordon Hayward the only notable Indiana born player.
So unless your getting a miracle offer just stuck with Brogdon
Brogdon does not play the wing. He was PG with Oladipo and went to Indiana to do that.
I f Brogdon is being shopped, it’s because he may get moved off of PG and does not like it. MIL all over again.
Indiana’s BB fans quake at Berman’s reveals lol
They’re not. Not every “story” floated by rival FOs and their minions needs to be believed.
Every year trades go down on last day and hour. Why should this yr be different. There will be at least 4-5 nice trades made this year. For what I would like to see most. Is Fournier or Powell come to Knicks. We can get our PG next yr or in draft. Dinwiddie and Ball will be FAs. Gordon to Celtics could end up a major trade. Especially if they get McGee or Drummond in BO.
That is true that every other year trades happen at the last minute of the deadline. But the difference is that every other year trades also happen in the week BEFORE the deadline. There will probably be several deals that happen on Thursday, but that doesn’t change the fact that this week leading up to Thursday has been the most boring to follow in recent memory.
You know, there is more to basketball than trades…sorry if it isn’t exciting enough for you. Try the stock market?
You know, it is possible to be remain silent and be thought a fool than to make an unnecessary comment and remove all doubt. Sorry, Mr. Lincoln, but I had to paraphrase there.
