Although the Warriors won their first game following Stephen Curry‘s tailbone contusion last week, the team has slumped since then without its leading scorer, losing its last four straight.
With Golden State still clinging to the 10th seed in the Western Conference at 22-24, the team got some good news on Sunday, as head coach Steve Kerr said that Curry practiced in full and “looked good,” per Marcus White of NBC Sports Bay Area.
Curry hasn’t been cleared to return yet, but he has been upgraded to questionable for Monday’s game vs. Chicago, so he could be back on the court as soon as tonight. If not, he seems like a good bet to be ready for Thursday’s contest in Miami. Kerr indicated on Sunday that he’s looking forward not just to having Curry back but to having a healthier roster in general.
“When Steph is on the floor, we just have confidence and swagger that’s missing when he’s not,” Kerr said. “And that helps our defense. If you go back over the last eight or nine games, we’ve had a lot of stuff. Whether it’s injuries, (COVID-19) protocol … (these) are all reasons – not excuses, they’re just reasons – that we’ve struggled. But nobody really cares. It’s just what it is. Every team’s dealing with all kinds of adversity this year.”
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- After trading away Brad Wanamaker and Marquese Chriss at last week’s deadline, the Warriors have two openings on their 15-man roster. President of basketball operations Bob Myers said the team is considering a number of options for those spots, including signing a player on the buyout market, promoting two-way players Juan Toscano-Anderson and/or Nico Mannion, or even bringing over draft-and-stash prospect Justinian Jessup from Australia. Decisions are expected soon (Twitter links via Kendra Andrews of NBC Sports Bay Area).
- Following the trade deadline, Myers acknowledged that the Timberwolves’ top-three protected 2021 first-round pick – held by the Warriors – drew plenty of interest. “You gotta be open to anything, but it would take a lot to part with that,” Myers said of the pick (Twitter link via Anthony Slater of The Athletic). “You never say never.” If it lands in the top three this year, the Warriors will receive the Wolves’ unprotected first-rounder in 2022.
- Myers didn’t have a problem with Kelly Oubre‘s comments suggesting he wouldn’t want to come off the bench if he’s back with the Warriors next season. “I like what he said,” Myers said (Twitter link via Slater). “He should want to start.”
Watching the warriors the last few games it looks like they are tanking this season. Very strange rotations of players as if they don’t want to win. They lose their 1st round pick if they are over 20th pick so they are tanking to keep their pick. The ream is not good enough to go far in the west playoffs so tanking is their best direction.
Kerr is entirely clueless on how to coach this team. If Steph and Wiseman are top 5 PNR players, but you use the PNR dead last in the league, then you are just tanking on purpose. Kerr is doing everything he can to lose games this season, and the fans don’t deserve to see an all-time great season by Steph totally wasted.
Sick of seeing these “pass the ball for 20 seconds then put up a dumb shot” offenses. Light Years Podcast called it the “all lives matter offense” and thats so dead on.
The defense has been the biggest problem the last 4 games. Sitting JTA on the bench while the opposing team is scoring at will. The rotations with very small players make no sense when the other team is pushing the ball inside.
@arc89 I agree, JTA is a must, and Kerr benching him and totally removing him from the rotation the day after his best game of the year is YET ANOTHER reason why Kerr is really just openly trying to get fired this year.
Kerr is so infuriating this year, my god. Not one ounce of responsibility and just relentlessly passing the buck. “We arent chasing wins” gets everyone else fired.
Marty weren’t you the guy saying Kerr is a genius to start the season? Remember you and arc said warriors are a top 3 team and championship contender too….
Curry while a great player can’t support a team by himself. Something he has shown throughout his career. It’s sad to see warriors run come to a close
GSW still are a top 3 team and a contender if Kerr puts away the triangle. I could not have predicted Kerr would deliberately destroy Wiseman’s career via never running plays for him? Curry has won every game the Warriors have won this season by himself. Dumb comment, once again…
Since 2013 GSW is 318-84 (.791) with Curry and 41-77 without (347). Kerr stinks.
Dumb comment? Lol so far I’m the one that’s been right. The truth hurts huh?
@tatsumaki I never said Warriors were a top 3 team. You keep lying about that. Twice now you have claimed that and I shot it down. I never said they were a top 3 team just a payoff team. You claimed Lakers was the best team in the NBA by far and I reminded you that there is 4 teams that could be the best. looks like I was correct on that.
As for Curry he has been carrying the team on his back. look how the lakers can’t win without their injured players. You are not sad about Warriors problem you have always hated the warriors. You are here enjoying their injuries and struggles.
Arc you just make stuff up to make yourself sound intelligent. I said warriors would be lucky to make playoffs and guess what they sit in 9th place as I predicted. I never said lakers would be top seed and you also never said there would be 4 teams ahead hahahahaha, warriors run is over. It’s okay at least you have some lottery picks to look forward to
Do you have a problem with making stuff up? I never said they were a top 3 team as you claimed in a previous post. I said they are a playoff team. BIG DIFFERENCE but twice now YOU claimed I said they were a top 3 team.
You said the Lakers were winning a championship and they are a dynasty. I said that the west is way to competitive and there is no team that is a sure bet to win a championship.
Please don’t try putting words in somebody’s mouth when they didn’t say it. That is a crazy thing to do. Be a man and admit you are confused who said what.
I know what I said. You don’t, and that’s why you have zero evidence to support yourself. It’s okay though man you have the future to look forward to! 2030 is right around the corner and right when warriors might be competitive again
You are derogatory and insulting to anyone who doesn’t like your view. I find you are always the one to get personal and lie about posters to make your take look legit. If you can’t have a sensible debate or argument about ball. Without being insulting or combative why are you even here. Make a point and prove it with facts, intellect, analysis. You need therapy lol. You got to be the Anus alien on here. It’s basketball not I’m right, and don’t anybody disagree with me.
The Warriors have been done since Klay went down. They’ll be back. Why even bother when you’re not a Warriors fan. And couldn’t care if Klay ever came back. You come here as a Laker fan. Yet bash Bron every chance you get. Dazed n Confused is who you are. Let grown folks argue about ball. You don’t need to weigh in.
Al I won’t be responding to you specifically going forward. I do find it assuming you choose to attack others as if you are some educated individual but you can’t speak English let alone have a “smart” conversation about basketball.
If I remember correctly you came at me and got smoked repeatedly. Sorry this offends you, when you attack someone and can barely write full sentences prepared to be flamed. I suggest you don’t comment anymore but if you do have a “grown up” revise it for you before looking stupid. Goodluck in life al.
Light Years podcast? Why are you listening to a bunch of nobodies?
Nobodies? Lol you wish, they know more about basketball than any poster in here other than me, yall are casuals at best. Yall dont even watch games, just stats only, sad!
If you know who they are, how are they “nobodies”? Smoothest brain take lol
Funny Marty now tats is pretending he sad about Warrior struggles when he bashing them for the last 6 years. He is so phony.
Phony? I follow them, they are my fave team. They answer to me, a fan, just as they do for you.
I have ALWAYS hated Kerr. HE is the reason KD didn’t want to come back, if they fire him, watch who shows up and wants to play with Steph – it will be the entire league.
I tried looking them up. Other than their podcast, nothing in their history makes them basketball experts. You can call yourself an expert, but that doesn’t make it so.
“Other than me”
Weren’t you THE same guy who in December/January that Wiggins = MJ if he developed a killer instinct? LOL
Can’t take you or your takes seriously. Gary is the best and most intelligent unemotionally attached GSW fan I’ve ever spoke too on here.
It’s enjoyable to see Wiseman and Wolves pick on the trade market all the time
Trade
Only in your mind are they on the trade market.
“Whether it’s injuries, (COVID-19) protocol … (these) are all reasons – not excuses, they’re just reasons – that we’ve struggled. But nobody really cares. It’s just what it is.”
They are absolutely, 100%, excuses. Kerr’s boomer passing the buck because he keeps running a severely outdated triangle offense with players like Wiseman who literally are shoved aside in that style, is plain and simple infuriating and shows an incapability to adapt to new players. Kerr can’t win without Steph, straight up, and never has. Get a coach who can.
Mark Jackson could barely win with Steph, so I’m not sure where you get this stuff from
Light Years – above the Cap that is…
marty there is a lot to criticize about the warriors this year. Most of these trolls have no idea what is happening with GSW. I read there is a big fight between management and Kerr on how the rookies need to play more. Kerr might just be angry they want him to play rookies more and the last few games he put them in to show top management why he doesn’t play them a lot. He put them in situations for them to fail.
I know! Im furious almost every day because of what Kerr is doing. He needs to ditch the triangle offense entirely and play JTA like 35 minutes a game. Play Curry on ball, PNR him with Wiseman and they will score almost every time. Curry being the best PNR in the league but has the lowest amount of them run by a rotation player is plain and simply infuriating. All Kerr has to do is run PNR’s until GSW is up by 10 and then give Curry rest. Repeat until W in on board. Anyone can do this, Kerr is the only one who can’t. I’d even trust Mark Jackson to do this at this point.
Marty.. this team has Steph, Dray, Wiggins, Oubre and the rest of the team are career gleague players or 1st and 2nd year players. They’re just not good enough. They have low IQ players. Oubre clearly doesn’t mesh. He can’t shoot it well, misses sooo many easy bunnies at the rim, and more than not, can’t move his feet quick enough on defense and offensive players get by him. He’s always trying to recover. He has his moments but he doesn’t look good.
Kerr has nothing to do with Wiseman being so bad. He has no footwork, no post game, bad hands, doesn’t know how to box out, doesn’t know how to set a good screen, doesn’t know how to control his body on defense, is almost always out of position on defense and jumps at everything. The only thing he’s consistently decent at is running the floor. His shot doesn’t even look good and who wants a 7’1 guy out at the three point line.
You don’t think Kerr and the coaching staff is trying to teach him? He’s a low IQ project player. If he does get to be good it won’t be for another few to several years. I’m looking at the progress made by Nico, who has looked better every game he plays and is poised. Poole, who has vastly improved his catch and shoot, has his body under control, yet he still has a lot to learn on offense, not to dribble into trouble and know when to attack and his defense is abysmal.
But Marty.. Damian Lee, Mulder, Paschall? How can you win with those guys as key roto players? You really want to put this on Kerr, the guy who opened Steph, Klay and Dray’s game to a whole other level and brought 3 rings to the Bay? If anything blame the front office for not drafting well, not signing the right guys or blame the players who didn’t want to come here (Bradley, Gasol, Baynes etc..). But please don’t blame Kerr for this mess
Wiseman is a Rookie ….. you couldn’t be more wrong about him. And try convincing Marty about his team is more wrong lol.
Its not entirely Kerr’s mess, its equal him and the front office replacing Jerry West with more Lacob’s with zero experience.
Why is Kerr continually using the triangle when Wiseman (and no big) even fits? Why draft him if you refuse to play the format that suits him best? Clear breakdown between the front office and Kerr. Explain to me those.
And you are absurdly, idiotically wrong about Wiseman. He started just fine, then Kerr relentlessly beat him down until he got clearly depressed about how badly this dumb “all passing until the clock runs out” offense that Kerr runs. Wiseman is a high IQ guy, you just can’t win when you are a big with the triangle. Kerr won with the triangle when he had KD, S-Dot, Iggy, Dray, Klay and Steph. He doesn’t have those anymore, yet refuses to change. Why?
True, Jerry West was incremental in making the right moves, drafting the right players. I question Bob Myers eye for talent, as his past few draft picks have been questionable (Damian Jones, Jacob Evans).
You’re right, I’m not entirely sure why they picked Wiseman. I thought there were players who fit the warriors system better. Kerr’s use of a center is one that can pass, set screens, protect the rim and rebound. Wiseman is having trouble with all of those facets. I believe he still uses the system he has b/c is maximizes Steph’s play and Draymond’s capabilities on offense. That should be the main focus, no? Also what happens when teams collapse on the PnR? Wiseman has bad hands, we’ve seen him fumble passes around numerous times, he’s not going to get any calls as a rookie and as big as he is, he’s not strong enough yet.
But noooo… you’re very much wrong about Wiseman. Did you watch the game against SAC the other night? Holmes ate him alive; boxed him out like he wasn’t even there. Nico was getting beat every play by Fox, but where was the help? Wiseman totally does not know where he needs to be on the court on defense, particularly w/o Dray. Obviously Steph creates enough space to where, if he’s in position, Wiseman can get open dunks and be a lob threat. But he has the ability to be much more.
I don’t question your fandom of the Warriors, but I do question your knowledge of basketball and I say that confidently after you’re saying I’m “idiotically wrong about him” LOL. Watch Wiseman closely. Watch his footwork, watch how he rebounds, how he sets screens. He’s a product of being a giant his entire life. He tries to rebound over grown men like he’s in high school rebound over center that are 6’4. Even Draymond said he didn’t know how to set a screen when he first came to the team.
I’m not saying all hope is lost, but he’s a project. Do the warriors have time for that with Steph, Klay, and Dray in the second half of their career? We’ll see
Oh and btw, he didn’t start out “just fine” LOL. He got some numbers in garbage time, that’s all. He just hasn’t shown the progress we’ve hoped for as Dubs fans. There’s still 26 games left.. let’s see if there’s some more improvement. Next year could be different too, looking at the leap Poole made. I wouldn’t be opposed to some G-League time for Wiseman either. He could use it.
Oh come on. Wiseman is in his 1st season with out any college. It always takes big men longer to develop. Give the guy sometime.
@Vince Man I am giving him time! lol. I’m just calling out Marty saying that this team is trash solely b/c of Kerr. That’s just silly talk. But I feel you, Wiseman could be great in a few years.
@tball I remember the Jo Barry Carrol trade. The Warriors could have had a front court of Robert Parrish, Joe McHale, Larry Smith. Bernard King and John Lucas in the front Court. Purvis Short as Sixth Man. It would have been an awesome team.
According to who? Who is saying that there is a fight between Kerr and Myers?
I did say Kerr might be over rated at the beginning of the year but wanted this year as my ultimate gauge and both ya guys were pretty adamant I was wrong
He’s been playing with a short deck but idk I still think he’s a below avg coach whoes been hidden by all the talent in years past
All we have is the evidence and that looks good. There used to be talk, by name, of the system Kerr runs but that disappeared and I cannot remember it. Something like 2-4-8. It was like someone told the reporters, “Shh. Dont let them in on it, don’t report on it”. It would be like Kerr to keep the crucial a secret, then otherwise chat freely.
TBH I don’t think GSW/Myers is good at player eval; it’s Kerr that bails them out with a good separation scheme and knowing what to be firm or not firm on.
I will give you he lays down house rules and anybody who doesn’t fit the script is quietly (appropriately) shipped away
His time in the booth has helped him pull the hustle on the media guys as well – I dont think he’s got a great expansive basketball mind tho
Y’all should just leave Marty be. Like what excatly you think is going to get thru. Warriors might not even make playoffs. Actually think they probably don’t want to. But it’s not like they were going to have success this yr. Warrior have the talent when healthy. And the assets to compete next yr. Especially if they get Minnys pick. But their own pick is top 20 protected from OKC. So finish in bottom 20 and they keep their. So play your players now to see what next yr can look like. They are playing for next yr. Cause their window now is 2-3 yrs. OK that’s what a wise franchise does. Two picks in top 20 and a yr wiser and older. This team is a contender next yr. If you don’t see that. Go to the mlb board. Let the Homers pout. Some really do hurt cause their team underperforms. Don’t be like Tats and go to War over it.
You see this insignificant Tats …. this is what intellect looks like. This what an analysis when you know what you are talking about looks like. This is how you show a take. Show an informed opinion.
Exactly. I -know- GSW will be a powerhouse next year, its just annoying because they had the pieces to get it done this year, but the front office and Kerr blew it. Steph’s big season this season is being wildly underrated by those who think they are truly “out of it” – if that was true why did they beat the full strength Clippers, Lakers and Jazz? This team is good and if Pop or even Monte Williams was coaching they’d be top 3 right now. Think about the record Luke Walton had while coaching this team. Kerr is the only overrated part of GSW’s dominance.
Trade Wolves pick on draft day
Teams are interested
For sure everybody wants Warriors pick lol.
D warriors would be better off if they played bigger, they have d talent to be decent, but are missing Clay, and need rookie to stay healthy, plus need a real point guard, with the recent play of d bench players, they now have some depth, but need some one to actually facilitate d offense.
Steph Kerr-y
Did I just blow your mind?
I’ll wait…
GSW gonna do something BIG this offseason once they figure out what assets they have to dish
I think they played this season right, they kept all their assets and didn’t bother trying to make small meaningless gains on the margins. Has to be tough on the fans as this is a 2 yr roadblock now on a team that has massive potential
I dont see any team running away with the West any time soon but GSW will be right up their with the top dogs come next year and thats all you can ever really ask
Agreed, they kind of have backed themselves into a place where their ONLY move is to trade the pick plus Wiseman plus whoever else for another superstar to add to Steph+Klay+Dray. They can’t keep this half-a’d “build the new team play the kids” at the same time you have the greatest player of all time playing at his best. Just irresponsible front office direction by a team who replaced Jerry West with the owners kids.
To be fair its kinda assumed whenever Logo leaves its gonna be a downgrade no matter what
Warriors have had some bad luck Curry 20 Klay 20/21 ….. Not always does someone have to fall on the sword – Many teams would b thrilled w Lacobs/Meyers combo
I thought the Wiggins thing was sooooo weird at the time….I get it was basically house money off the Russell sign then trade ploy they pulled over Minnys eyes but felt it was risky at the time as he might not be good enough as a building block to move later easily at that salary….But hes only got 2 years left now so I Think points almost mute there
S &T Oubre for whatever value ya can , hello Bn
Wiggins+Wiseman+ Picks on a a star….if their gonna run the same motion offence w Curry/Klay I just dont see Wiseman ever optimizing his value in that system….prolly best to get max value on trade market considering GSW time arc
It would be a huge mistake to trade Wiseman and their picks. It is time to rebuild.
It is stupid to trade Wiseman. They need to rebuild now. Why waste great picks you have in 2 strong drafts. It doesn’t make any sense.
I agree with you. They not far from being #1 again.
