As the Timberwolves approach the trade deadline, they have no intention of entertaining trade offers for big man Karl-Anthony Towns, shooting guard Anthony Edwards, or point guard D’Angelo Russell, sources tell Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.
As Krawczynski explains, the Wolves view those three players as cornerstone pieces and are eager to see how they look together under new head coach Chris Finch once Russell returns to action.
Russell, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to remove a loose body in February, has started to work out with the club and could begin participating in team activities this weekend or early next week, per Finch (via Krawczynski). D-Lo’s exact return date will hinge on how knee responds following last month’s procedure.
Here’s more on the Wolves:
- Minnesota has been receiving a number of calls about Malik Beasley and Jaden McDaniels, sources tell Krawczynski. However, the club is reluctant to part with either player. The Wolves believe McDaniels has the potential to develop into a versatile, shot-blocking power forward who would be an ideal complement for Towns.
- Krawczynski confirms a previous Bleacher Report story that indicated the Wolves and Magic were making progress on a potential Aaron Gordon trade prior to the forward’s ankle injury earlier this season. By the time Gordon returned from that injury, Minnesota had fallen well out of the postseason, and the 25-year-old is hoping to be sent to a playoff team. That doesn’t mean the Wolves couldn’t still acquire him, but they may not be confident about their ability to sign him beyond his current contract.
- During his televised Trade Deadline special with Adrian Wojnarowski this afternoon, ESPN’s Zach Lowe suggested the Magic would “love to get their hands on” McDaniels in any Gordon trade with the Wolves.
- The Timberwolves have previously inquired about trading for Raptors swingman Norman Powell, but were unable to agree on compensation, says Krawczynski.
If Wolves move Beasley it will be hard for him to settle in a new city since he has trouble at open houses.
It’s called a parade of homes
Does anybody remember laughter?
Not sure that would have ever caused laughter
The thunder need to trade for Powell
With Lebron and AD down teams in the west should be pushing for lowry and powell
Nuggets get Lowry
Raptors get Harris, Dozier, Bol Bol, Hampton, and Nnaji, plus draft picks
Mavericks get N.Powell and Baynes
Raptors get D. Powell, Brunson, Green, draft picks.
By your ideas I gotta guess you are a die hard TOR fan, right?
TWolves at this point have no season to fight for it’s all about next season which is so disappointing for a team with 2 all stars and the number 1 overall pick.
That being said this year they should have a top three pick and be looking at Mobley Cunningham and Green. That’s my top 3 but unfortunately for them that’s a C, PG and SG which is the spots currently taken by their three key players. Meaning something has to happen. I think KAT is one more disappointing season away from leaving.
They need to start building on possibility that KAT might leave. Meaning look at trading Dlo, and look at players that you can build around either Ant or KAT with.
Now with that said I’d trade DAngelo Russell, Jarrett Culver and a second round pick for Jerami Grant and Delon Wright.
Grant signed long term, is a fit at either SF or PF with either Ant or KAT. Although it may upset KAT with Russell being his mate it’s for the future with Cunningham being your hopeful draft pick and Suggs your fall back option.
Then Malik Beasley for Kelly Oubre and a second round pick. Beasley at 15mil+ takes minutes away from Ant and that kinda money could be used elsewhere. Oubre can play with either Ant or KAT, is good at both ends of the floor and when it come to resigning him he shouldn’t be to much more expensive than he is now. You’ll have Delon Wrights expiring contract to give you some money anyways.
Lastly Ricky Rubio for Evan Fournier.
Magic want an experienced point guard like Rubio and Fournier doesn’t have a future with the team. You’d just doing this to get another expiring deal.
You’ll head into next season looking like
1. Cunningham
2. ANT. Okogie
3. Oubre. Layman
4. Grant. McDaniels. Hernagomez
5. KAT. Reid
Resign Oubre using Delon Weights expiring deal, you’ll also have Fourniers 18mil deal to invest into getting a better bench. With Cunningham the new point you’ll want a back up, probably a shooter like Patty Mills or Jeff Teague with some experience.
Your now loaded 1-5 with good plays on good deals. No one is to expensive, no one demands the ball to much on offence, no one is a liability on defence. If KAT is unhappy you can easily move him and still have a really good team.
It didn’t cost you any picks either.
On the flip side no team has any plan to entertain making an offer for d’angelo russell
Wolves can trade for Markannen again
